Jobs System Explanation
Although it wasn't always the way, Olympia is heavily influenced by money and the Economy. The House of Corporations rose to power through Capital Alone and as such, the way of life has went from survival to profit.
This is an explanation of the jobs system, the terms used within the jobs system and how the job system works. If there are any questions left after this, please mail a moderator or use the AMA topic within the starter forum.
Q: What are "jobs"?
Jobs are an important factor in this guild, much like in the real world, your character is going to need a job to earn money and live. However, Jobs also influence how your character behaves because, usually, your job will determine how your character fits into society.
Q: Why are there two Jobs sections?
There are two jobs sections because everyone must have a Job of some description and like in real life, you can actually have more than one job. You must always have a primary Job no matter what happens but you may leave the Secondary job section blank if you prefer.
Q: Can we change jobs throughout the RP?
Yes you can actually, all you have to do is edit your profile after informing a moderator. You must be recruited or employed in RP though and you must be able to provide proof of such.
Also, to take this question a little further, you may also have more than two jobs as long as you do not have more than one Primary Job you may have as many Secondary jobs as you can handle.
Q: Is there any sort of preference to how the Jobs should be set up or what classifies as a job?
Yes, actually there is and that shall be explained below.
Like Zoids, jobs fall into certain tiers. These tiers effect how you must set up your jobs and what not. So please read the below tier listings for jobs to make sure that you do not make a mistake.
Priority Jobs
Known as priority jobs because they must serve as your Primary Job Role, these Jobs are very important in the world of Zoids: Olympia. They also mean a lot of commitment. So please read what they are before just jumping at them and what each job entails.
- Judge: The Judges are the law when it comes to Zoids. Part of a high-class society of expert Zoid Pilots with some even being retired competitors from the Grand Prix; the Judges make sure that no one abuses the power of Zoids and referee the Grand Prix. Judges actively RP in matches to follow the action, get out of the way and maybe even warn people that they're breaking rules. They also functioning as an elite police force dealing with Zoid and Grand Prix business like betting and what not.
Being a judge earns you 50,000 PM and your base of operations will be the Courthouse. You will the orders from the Judge's Council.
Team Owner: A team owner owns an official Zoids Grand Prix team. Usually the owner of a business as well, the difference between them and solely business owners is that they also own a Zoid team as well. However, this is not always the case, if someone can put up the money they can own a Zoid team.
Team Owners earn varying amounts of money. They earn the profits from both their Business/ Endeavors and the Matches their team participates in. A downside is that it is imperative that they also pay their Team members and RPC staff. Team Owner is also the only primary Job that may allow for someone to put a Priority Job as a Subjob. These two jobs are Business Owner, if applicable and Team Manager, if they also wish to manage the team.
Team Manager: Team Managers are hired or assigned to overlook and run Zoid teams. They're the ones who scout possible pilot recruits, drafts their contracts, makes sure they get their pay cheques and is their go to if they have a problem. However, depending on their own contract and their Team's status, they may also have to report to the Team Owner. Team Owners may also be Team Managers if they wish, this is one of the only circumstances in which Team Manager may be junctioned as a subjob.
Business Owner: Business owners are as the title says, Business owners. So, surely, it would be in a character's best interests to make sure that their business stayed a float and put this as their primary job and function. Team Owner's may also assign this as their subjob, if they wish and do not take an active part in their team's management.
Business owners also automatically gain a seat in the House of Corporations. Especially so if they also own a GP team.
Civilian: Although not a job per say, if your line of work does not actually involve any of the above things or Piloting a Zoid. Well, this is what you put as your Primary Job. More a moniker akin to the fact your a pedestrian if you cannot drive; Civilians cannot or will not pilot Zoids for a living and instead have opted for another life. These lives can include farming, retail and even barkeeping.
Inter-Changeable Jobs
Inter-Changeable Jobs are Jobs that would fall into your Primary Job section if it is not already taken up by a Priority Job. You may also take an Inter-Changeable Job as a secondary if your Primary job is also an Inter-Changeable Job.
- Pilot: Behold the Zoid Pilots, the rockstars of Olympia. Zoid Pilots pilot Zoids in the Gran Prix, obviously anyone can own a Zoid as long as they own a license and register it but to be a "Pilot" you need to actually compete. Even mediocre Pilots gain a certain degree of fame.
Pilots earn a minimum wage of 30,000 PM, if contracted and are a valuable commodity to almost every aspect of Olympian life. Pilots may be contracted to a team or work as the Secondary-Only Occupation of "Freelancer". Most Pilots join the equivalent to the Zoid Pilot's Union: The Pilot's Guild.
Pilot Trainer/ Coach: Freelance Zoid Pilots whom making a living through training other Zoid Pilots to be better. They earn money per session and are obviously Pilots so do not need to register Pilot as a Job. However, Pilot Trainers are somewhat limited in the fact that competing makes them bound to a team and makes them have to give up their job unless signed on as a Coach.
Engineer: Engineers are people who are not only able to repair but able to design Zoids as well as customize them with already existing parts. They are a very valuable commodity in the Grand Prix circuit and all the best ones are snatched up almost on the spot by whatever team sees them first. However, Engineers don't even have to sign up to a team. Some make their own workshops where anyone is welcome.
The debate about being contracted/self-employed rages on. Being contracted is a lot safer and more rewarding than self-employment in the long run but if you're good as a self-employed engineer, you can easily make as much as a contracted Engineer and sometimes even faster depending on if business is good.
Secondary Occupations
Secondary Occupations are simply any other job that isn't listed above. There are some guild set ones but you can basically put anything that isn't the above in your secondary job, even the fact that you are unemployed and looking. You can even have one of these Jobs along with another Secondary Job. Cool, right?
- Freelancer: Freelancer's are Pilots whom offer their temporary services to teams. They do not have a legal minimum wage like contracted Zoid Pilots do and do not have the security a team provides. They are basically lone wolves.
Soldier: Members of the National Guard, soldiers protect Olympia from internal and external threats.
Shopkeeper/ Barkeeper: Although this job says Barkeeper and Shopkeeper, this job is basically for anyone who works somewhere but doesn't own it.
Farmer: Farmers are Farmers.
