Bae Seong grew up in a loving, protective home; perhaps, however, a mite too protective. Isolated from the world, he was raised 'in captivity', for lack of a better term. There was a reason for this, however, and it was not always this way.
To get to that, of course, we must start at the very, very beginning.

Dae Seong wanted nothing more than to have a family, to have children. Unfortunately for him, that was the one thing in life that he seemed unable to get. He was sterile.
Married to the love of his life, and blessed with more money than he knew what to do with, Bae's father convinced himself that he could make do with what he had. There was no reason to pressure his wife into awkward procedures, or to risk his life or body with medical augmentation. He tried to console himself with what he did have, throwing himself into his work, taking his wife on extravagant trips... In the end, though, it wasn't enough to distract him from what he obviously lacked. It all came to a turning point when his wife, Hana, approached him about having children.
He was forced to tell her the truth, and Hana was devastated. She had wanted a child desperately for many years, but had only recently become brave enough to approach her husband about it. He had seemed so unconcerned with having a family, she had feared he would outright tell her no. This, however, was worse. She was not one to be easily swayed, however, and immediately suggested they look into a few simple procedures for them to try. Dae agreed, and the two began to try everything they could to improve Dae's..issues. It was a futile attempt, though; there was nothing that could be done, and after the fortieth doctor told him so, Dae finally accepted this.
The household became dark and dreary as both Hana and Dae skirted around the issue and the choice in front of them. If they were to have a child like they wanted, it could never be Dae's. But, Dae reasoned, there was no reason it could not be Hana's. She so desperately wanted a baby of her own, he saw no reason that it couldn't happen. He was devoted to his wife, and to her happiness, and would do everything he could to make her smile; even if it meant sharing her with someone else.
He approached the issue gently one evening, over dinner. Hana was reluctant at first, finding the idea unusual and disloyal. She didn't want to insult or dishonour Dae by having an affair, even if he encouraged her to do so. At first, she suggested simply using a sperm bank; Dae, however, didn't like that idea. He wanted to know the person who would father his child, more than an information packet could tell them. He told her that she didn't have to decide immediately; that he wouldn't force her into it. And with that, the idea lay silent for many years.

Then, one night, it came back in full force. Hana approached Dae and explained that she had met a man who she could not ignore, and that she wanted Dae to meet him. Long accustomed to the idea of his wife with another man, Dae agreed; this was how he came to know Pluto.
He found the man to be harsh, cunning, ruthless, and occasionally devious; but at the same time, he saw the good in him that had infatuated Hana. He was honourable, honest, trustworthy. He did not break his word once he gave it, and spoke frankly and truthfully. He was generous and genuinely cared for Hana, lavishing her with attention and favour. He had a good sense of duty, and responsibility; and Dae could respect these things enough to accept his darker side, as Hana had.

Perhaps it was manipulation on Pluto's part, or perhaps it was real, but eventually Dae grew to care for Pluto as Hana did; and, he agreed with Hana that if they were to have a child, he would he happy to have Pluto father him or her.
It was at this point that Pluto was forced to reveal his true self to them; shockingly, Hana had already figured it out. A bright and intuitive woman, it had been a bit abrupt and hard to accept at first, but over time it had grown on her and she could no longer deny it as truth. Most of all, she did not care. With Hana's full acceptance of it, it was easy for Dae to accept it as well.
                                            And so, Bae was conceived.

Aware of his lineage from the very beginning, and informed by Pluto of the dangers his life posed, Hana and Dae were very careful. They kept Bae away from all things Greek, and surrounded him with other scents. Mortal, and Herbal as well. Hana began to cultivate and grow fragrant flowers, surrounding their house in a lavish garden. The scent of the garden more than overpowered Bae's halfblood scent, protecting him from monsters while he was at home. Unfortunately, a time eventually came that he would have to leave the house; he needed to go to school. Dae suggested home-schooling him, but Hana refused. She did not want her son to live the life of a prisoner, and insisted that he be allowed to interact with other children and have a normal life. So, Bae went to kindergarten, where Hana hoped that the scent of the other kids would protect him. And, for a while, it did.
Then, during a class movie-time of watching Disney's 'Hercules', something that Hana had always dreaded happened. Bae's scent got stronger. And then the monsters came.
It was nothing noticeable, at first. An oddly friendly woman at the supermarket, or a pushy salesman following them through the mall. Then it became worse. Bae began to notice things that didn't quite belong, and Hana became terrified for his safety. Not terrified enough, however, to trap her child within the walls of their home. She began to follow him every where he went, becoming a helicopter parent. It was for this reason that she was outside the school when the manticore attacked.
She wasn't entirely sure what was happening, to be completely honest. Hana could not see through the mist, and she only caught fleeting glimpses of what the problem really was. Even so, it didn't take a genius to figure out what was happening. Her baby, her Bae, was in mortal danger. So, she did the only thing she could. She took him, and she ran.
They were almost home, almost 'safe', when the monster caught up to them again. At the edge of the garden, Hana made her final stand, thrusting Bae into the bushes and drawing the monster away from him.
                                            She died protecting her child.

By the time Dae realized what had happened, it was far too late. Hana was dead, mauled by an 'escaped lion' from the zoo. Bae was missing, and said escaped lion was still prowling around the garden, trying to find him. Dae rushed outside to try and find his son before the manticore did. By now, the beast had realized that Bae was somewhere in the flowers, although it could not smell him. Dae did manage to find his son, but in doing so, he drew the manticore straight to them. He was about to make his own final stand to protect his baby, but as it turned out, he didn't have to. Bae's terrified screams brought help, of the supernatural kind. The ground shook beneath their feet, finally cracking open and revealing the undead warriors of the underworld. They destroyed the manticore, and as quickly as they had appeared, they vanished.

Dae was left with a traumatized son, a dead wife, and more media attention than he cared for. He was devastated, lonely, heartbroken...he couldn't handle it.
So he shut it all out. He gathered Bae, and everything they owned, and moved. Unwilling to endanger his son ever again, he wrapped Bae up in so many protective layers, the boy could barely sneeze without someone appearing instantly at his side. He home schooled Bae, working out of an office in their basement to be closer to his boy.

For many years, Bae did not find this unusual. This was because he had no idea how other children were raised. TV and phones were forbidden in their house, and never mind the internet. The only thing he had were the books his father gave him, and those were very carefully monitored.
He also didn't find it unusual that his studies included swordplay and martial arts, as well as proper rites for the dead and the respect that need be given to the wealth of the earth. He was given everything he needed or wanted, and had no reason to leave or want to leave. His father didn't encourage it, and whenever Bae even so much as thought of mentioning it, he began to tell Bae the dangers of going outside. Bae trusted his father unconditionally, and saw no reason to disagree with him. This was exactly how Dae liked things. Controlled. Safe.

Dae lived his own life slightly less isolated than Bae, but not enough to avoid earning the moniker of 'eccentric hermit'. He didn't care or mind, though. He was a little odd, as he practised things that other people didn't; in particular, thanks to his knowledge of the gods, Dae offered them his respect and his worship - in particular, to Bae's father. It was hard, at first, though. Struggling with his own anger and hurt at Hana's death, he wanted to know why Pluto had not protected her. It was many years before he was able to accept that Pluto was not allowed to interfere.

Occasionally, through this worship, Pluto would contact Dae and inquire as to Bae's livelihood. Dae would oblige him with updates, and they would both go on their merry way; until Bae's thirteenth year. Pluto requested to see Bae, and tell him the truth.

Dae refused. He knew that knowing would put his son in more danger, and didn't want to do that. He never wanted Bae to know the truth; unfortunately for him, Pluto was bound by oath to claim him by his thirteenth birthday. And Pluto never broke his word.

The arguments grew so loud and violent that even Bae noticed them, wondering who his father was arguing with. When he asked, his father became defensive, angry, and withdrawn. He refused to tell Bae, and sent him to his room.
This went on for quite some time, until finally Pluto wore Dae down. Dae began to prepare Bae for his thirteenth birthday, which would be spent for the first time in the company of people. Bae was more excited than he knew how to express. He was going to meet someone other than the occasional gardener or bodyguard. He didn't expect to meet his true father, of course, so when Pluto appeared in the shadows of the room, Bae was very confused. Pluto greeted him as his son, handing him a business card and drawing him aside. Dae followed, and together the two men told Bae the truth. Pluto told both Bae and Dae of a place that he could truly be safe, and told them that if they wanted to send him there, that the card would lead them. Then, he vanished.

That was the first, and the only, time that Bae has ever seen Pluto.

Finally understanding much of his life, Bae was understandably confused and a little bit upset. He couldn't believe that Dae had known about this the whole time, and yet never told him. It made him wonder what else that Dae had never told him.
His father refused to speak of the card, and hid it in his personal library. This infuriated Bae, who had been so patient with his fathers eccentricities for so long. So, when his father went out one day to go to a business meeting, Bae did something he had never done before. He disobeyed him, and set foot within the walls of his father's library.
In the library, he found the card, and he found something else. A television. Already knowing that he would get in trouble, Bae supposed that he may as well have been hung for a sheep as a lamb. So he turned it on.
This was when Bae learned just how much his father had been keeping from him. And he couldn't believe it.

It was all a lot for the then-young boy to handle. His father was keeping things from him, more than Bae could possibly understand. He had trapped him away from the world, hidden so much truth from him. Bae wasn't sure of many things, but he was sure of one thing. His father couldn't, it seemed, be trusted. Which meant that as much as he cared for Dae...well, Bae couldn't stay here any longer. He needed to know things, and Dae clearly wasn't willing to tell them to him. He needed to find another place to be; which brought his attention back to the card. After a short moment of consideration, Bae packed himself a bag, and left.

Being that it was his first time out of the house since he was a young boy, Bae was largely unprepared for what he would find, and he didn't get far before he ran into trouble. His whole trip was filled with mishaps, and it was no wonder that he drew attention everywhere he went. It was, however, a wonder that his father never caught up to him. Bae found skill in disappearing when he needed to; unused to the places most people would usually look, he often chose unusual and hard to find hiding places.

Somehow, through a mix of luck and some assistance from a few helpful dryads, Bae was able to stumble his way across the country, fighting off monsters and ducking his father's attempts to return him home. He made it to camp in (mostly) one piece, running into some trouble around Brooklyn with a den of Cyclopes and a persistent Sphinx. Thankfully for him, this scuffle drew the attention of a Satyr from the academy. He met up with Bae in New York, and escorted him the rest of the way to the Academy, safe and sound. And, Bae has been there ever since; he does occasionally go to see his father Dae, but he is careful not too stay too long. He doesn't want to end up trapped once again, and still doesn't understand why his father would do such a thing.

Bae is, above all else, an ultimately sheltered young man. Raised beneath his father's thumb, he saw nothing and heard nothing without his permission. A lot of knowledge was denied to him, as a child, which most people would find quite basic. World affairs, societal norms - these things were limited around Bae, and so he has trouble with them.

He understands that he has been in the dark for quite some time, though, and strives to remedy that. Bae has found himself to be quite the curious and explorative creature, eager to learn and discover all that he can. This poses a danger, however, as there are some who would take advantage of Bae's ignorance.

Bae does, however, have a hard time trusting people and forming lasting bonds. Considering that the closest thing he had to a 'best friend', growing up, was a body guard, it is unsurprising that he has a difficult time in social situations. Not only that, but Bae struggles with many things thanks to what happened with his father. What he previously thought was a loving & protective gesture has now turned sour & selfish in his mouth, and he isn't sure what to do about it. He's struggling not to fault his father for his actions, and to understand the choices he made, but in the end he does hold a great grudge against Dae; for hiding things from him, for trapping him, for removing his freedom to choose.

Holding grudges is something that Bae does well, though it is a selective and rare occurrence for him. Then again, he hasn't exactly had much opportunity to form them, as he hasn't been around very many people who would dare do anything he could begrudge them for.

One would think that Bae would be a very spoiled child, thanks to his solitary upbringing and his father's extreme focus upon him, but Dae did not lavish his child with the things he wanted - only the things that he, Dae, thought Bae needed. Bae is far from a spoiled individual, though he has found himself struggling with greed when faced with all of the things the world can offer him. His disciplined nature serves him well in these situations - raised to obey and to stick to order, Bae often reverts to a quiet and solitary state when things get stressful.

It would be a mistake to consider him a follower, though. Bae can obey orders, but he can also take care of himself. Wickedly intelligent, even as a young child Bae showed signs of being a shrewd and cunning strategist. It served him quite well in his studies. Under his mother's hand, she tried to guide him toward creativity and gentler uses for his intelligence. Under his father's harsher hand, however, Bae's mind has become quite the ruthless place. Once he identifies something as an obstacle or an enemy, that is it's position in the world - there is no changing that, nor the fact that he needs to destroy it.

Bae has, over the years, inherited some of his father's harsh attitude. It was hard not to, considering he was stuck in a house with only Dae for company for years. He can sometimes come off as stuck up and inconsiderate thanks to his penchant to turn to cold logic in the face of adversity - he has never been particularly exposed to empathetic bonds with other people, and so doesn't understand how deciding with your heart works.

He did know his mother, though, and some of her shines through the icy exterior that Dae surrounded his son within. Bae is a trustworthy and honest man, though he does have a tendency toward bluntness in his speech and manner. He holds himself to a strict code of honesty, and to be cliché and expected, of honour. Once Bae gives his word about something, he will not turn his back on it, even if it turns out to have been a mistake. He will see all things that he sets himself to through. This holds true for all facets of his life. So, once Bae has decided that you are his ally or his friend, that is unlikely to change.

Even if something is considered distasteful, if Bae is entrusted with the task, he will get it done. He understands duty perhaps more than anything else in his life.

One thing you will never find Bae doing is 'letting loose'. While he is eager to learn and eager to experience new things, whooping and shouting and rough housing are simply not within his 'style'. A very reserved young man, Bae is anything but an extrovert. He keeps his emotions close and prefers solitude to an entire crowd of people - something he is struggling to come to terms with, as after so long in 'captivity', he yearns for normalcy.

Bae's perception of normalcy greatly conflicts with his reserved nature. He feels like an outcast and a freak compared to the teens that he sees on movies and TV - the ones who throw outrageous parties and have a thousand friends, who are always up for the next big adventure and who seem filled with wit and charm. Compared to them, he considers himself clumsy, awkward, and undesirable.

Though he is not clumsy, by any means, it wouldn't be a far stretch to say that Bae is awkward. In fact, it would be an incredibly true statement, considering his lack of experience in social situations.

                                            ██████HOBBIES

Bae enjoys playing the violin - his favourite song to play is Orphee aux Enfers
Bae collects gemstones & interesting rocks, a hobby his mother introduced him to, to occupy him while she tended the flowers.
Hana practised Tai Chi every morning when she woke, and often involved Bae in the practice. He has kept with it even after her death, and greatly enjoys it in the mornings. Or, well - whenever he wakes up.
                                                one

                                            ██████SKILLS

Bae has been trained in Taekwondo and swordplay for most of his life.
Bae is tri-lingual, speaking English, French, and Korean fluently.
                                                Bae is a gifted Violinist.

                                            ██████QUIRKS

Sleeps like the dead - has a habit of crossing his hands over his chest while he sleeps, also.
twists the shorter hairs at the side of his head together when he's thinking
Bae keeps at least three of his favourite rocks or polished gems in his pocket to toy with when he's nervous.
Bae takes off his shoes & socks when he enters a home or a place of residence. His father hated shoes or socks in the house, and it's a habit that has stuck with him ever since.

                                            ██████FEARS

Heights & Flying - Bae is of the mindset that if people were meant to fly, they would have wings.
Manticores - after his mother was torn to pieces by one, he's had a healthy and admittedly expected fear of them. He isn't too partial to lions, either.
Entrapment - not in the claustrophobic sense, but in the sense that he doesn't want to be in a place in which he cannot control his own actions ever again.
