Poem #9
Note: This is the one I submitted to the contest a couple of weeks ago.
She took the time to learn
His story, word by word,
His facial expressions,
How he never smiles, only smirks,
His scent,
The way he parts his hair,
And how he likes his coffee,
(With cream and extra sugar)
The shape of his hands when intertwined with hers,
Each freckle and dimple and scar,
How he always dodges her I love yous,
The way he looks at her,
And the way he tenses when he's not looking at her at all,
Each contour of his body,
The rhythm of his breathing,
His melancholic sighs,
How long each one of his pauses between words are,
How his footsteps sounds,
And how the air feels when he's not around.
If only he took the time to do the same.
