Niko was by himself for the time being, frolicking amidst the meadow. He was always energetic, today was no exception, with his current target of play being a damselfly darting across the clearing. It was blue bodied with a long thin abdomen and tiny delicate wings, not particularly fast at flight which made it an even more inviting subject of curious observation. Niko liked to chase and watch bugs, this damselfly was a bit shy but he could get close enough to admire the sky blue eyes that seemed to stare right back at him. This would have become a bit of a staring contest if it weren't for the random grasshopper that hopped across his line of sight. A different bug that moved in a different way, this one bouncing across the field. Boing! Boing! Boing! This was a green hopper, just shy of becoming an adult.

Akari was bouncing after a green hopper cheerily, though she was careful not to crush any bugs or flowers as she crossed through the meadow. The bright flowers in this meadow always brightened her mood. She couldn't imagine destroying any of them. She always tried to be careful as possible when she padded through them and she only picked a few flowers occasionally. The meadow had a cheery atmosphere and she didn't want to chance ruining it for herself or anyone around here by hurting its flora inhabitants. She had been through the meadow any times and hardly encountered anyone, so she was sufficiently surprised when she spotted another leaflet among the bright colors. He stood out with his dark blue and black fur. Akari stepped closer and followed his line of sight. He was staring at a bug, a green hopper like the one she had followed earlier. "Hello!" she greeted in a friendly tone of voice. "It's a pretty bug.... isn't it? So energetic!" She smiled shyly as she came up beside the black and blue furred male and introduced herself. "I'm Akari. What's your name?"

Niko, being concentrated on the green grasshopper, was only mildly startled at the "Hello" that came his way from Akari, but once he realized it was a fellow Leaflet, he perked his ears and tilted his head to the side a bit. "Hello there!" He said with a warm smile, "Yes, the grasshoppers always have energy to hop around, even I can't hop as much as grasshoppers do and I do love to hop around in the soft grass." He had to pause for a moment when he caught a glimpse of Akari's striking eyes, glimmering like fine gemstones, before he introduced himself, "I'm Niko. I like to explore, this meadow is very peaceful, very relaxing, the energy here is balanced nicely, sweet scents abound from the flowers and..." Another grasshopper caught his easily grabbed attention. This grasshopper was a brown adult, taking flight that made it look like a black butterfly with yellow edged wings. In this bright and sunny day, such a contrasting insect can be very distracting for Niko, so he chased after it. This one flittered to the ground. He only caught a glimpse before it hopped once more, taking flight into the trees. He chased it for a bit, but he saw enough of the bug to see that it was a grasshopper. He bounded back to Akari, "I never knew those butterflies were not butterflies at all but instead they were grasshoppers that just look like butterflies when they fly but on the ground they are brown grasshoppers it is so weird how different they look from what I expected I thought those were really fast butterflies but they're not that was a grasshopper!" His speech was quick when he gets into a talking frenzy. "This other bug I saw today was kind of like a dragonfly only a tiny one and with very blue eyes and delicate wings. The other day I saw an actual butterfly that was brown with white spots. One time I even found a strange grasshopper that didn't have jumper legs, but instead had claws on the front. That grasshopper was so nice to hold its arms out as if it wanted a hug and even showed me its wings! I tried giving it a hug but it scratched me with its claws, probably because I hugged it too tight." At no point would he be aware of having talked too much.

Akari giggled quietly. This leaflet boy was so energetic! She gave a little bounce of her own, smiling brighly. "Nice to meet you Niko! I like this meadow too!" Niko went on rambling about the meadow after introducing himself and Akari listened. She found his rambling adorable. She was glad someone else beside her appreciated the meadow that she spet s much tim in. Suddenly his rambling stopped and he took off after another bug. Akari blinked a few times, confused for just a moment, before she smiled and sat down where she stood. She waited patiently for him to come back and when he did she greeted him with a cheerful smile and warm words. "Welcome back Niko!" She tilted her head to the side and listened closely as he talked about all the bugs he had encountered so far in this meadow. She'd seen many bugs in her days too. "I think that last one... the one that scratched you was a Praying Mantis." she explained. "They aren't really the most friendly of bugs... So I'd be careful around them, kay? I've never seen that little dragonfly, though. It sounds pretty!" her eyes sparkled and she glanced around them, hoping to see one. "I hope I get to see one!" She turned back to Niko. "You really like bugs, huh?"

Niko gave a soft chuckle, which really sounded more like a giggle anyway because of being a small and adorable critter, at the mention of the praying mantis. He coyly scritched his paw behind his antlers, "Hee, I knew that. At least I think so. I've heard of praying mantises. So the ones with the claws in the front are what those are? Maybe we might see one in this meadow. I sure do like bugs, and all creatures of the land! As for the dragonfly we might see one come around. Just gotta look!" Niko's attention was easily grabbed, but for the time being he couldn't resist staring at the pretty colors of Akari. This was an extended stare, indeed, though it didn't last because another damselfly flew into his field of view. But he wasn't going to chase it, since it had landed on a blade of grass, its wings folded downward instead of a dragonflies never-folding wings. "Akari, look to your left at the grass near your feet. That's what I saw earlier. There's a bunch in this field." That weren't the only thing he spotted. Being the observant one, he spotted a small green insect. It was a baby mantis, plain and green. Niko couldn't help himself, he reached a paw toward the mantis - not to grab it, but to see if the mantis would come to him. Sure enough, it reached its tiny bug paws out and climbed on, doing a strange side-to-side dance and turning its little curious head around. It seemed to stare at Niko for a bit, but then just kind of folded its fore-arms and looked pretty relaxed. "Well, would you look at that? A mantis, just as you said."

OOC:
Sorry I didn't get this response out sooner, busy yesterday, had a hardcore punk show that went late into the night, got home tired, today my uncle visited, we had a Super Bowl meal and it was so awesome. ^_^

Akari smiled, though there was a slight tinge of a blush on her face as she realized Niko was staring at her,"Bugs are really interesting creatures." When the other leaflet told her to look near her feet at the grass she did, directing her blue gaze to the left of her where the damselfly lay on the grass. She studied the creature and a thoughtful expression etched itself onto her face. She'd seen something like this in one of her books. "Damselfly..." she remembered suddenly, her eyes lighting up. She smiled and turned back to Niko. "Those are called damselflies." she indicated the pretty little winged bug with a flick of her ear. Her eyes grew wide as the little mantis climbed onto Niko's paw. She took a tentative step closer to Niko, being as careful as possible so as to not frighten or set off the little mantis. "What a cute little guy. It seems to really like you. You have a way with bugs." she looked up at Niko with a smile.

Niko stared at the little mantis on his paw, who stared back with its wide green eyes. It started to wave its claws before positioning its four hind legs at an optimum balanced spot before springing forth and landing on Niko's forehead. He simply gave a chuckle as the little bug made its way up one of his antlers. Probably because his fur was ticklish. He ducked his head, pointing his antlers toward a nearby bush. After a moment, he seemed to know when the mantis climbed off his antlers and onto one of the small branches, turning around to make sure the little fella was safe. "What a tiny grassho- I mean praying mantis!" Niko turned around to face Akari once more, "Sometimes I play with frogs and toads too. Lots of dragonflies by the pond, some fish and strange little bugs that dance on the water. Or I watch the trees where the cardinals, sparrows and wrens all bounce between the branches. Sometimes I climb the trees, or try to. Shorter ones are easier to climb, takes practice to not fall off a branch." He giggled and laid on his belly in the grass, still keeping his attention on Akari. For now, even a damselfly didn't distract him for once. "It's so nice to meet you, I go out exploring so much I don't often get to talk to other Leaflets. I'd be honored to be your friend!"

I may do that from time to time, since I love sharing music.

Akari sat down on her haunches and focused on Niko, a warm smile on her face. "I spend most of my time in meadows with the bugs and the flowers." Her voice took on a tone of bliss and her eyes brightened considerably. "I really, really love flowers. All the different aromas, and shapes and colors are so intriguing! No two flowers are the same. Some may look like it at first, but there are tiny little differences there if you look really close! There are lots of different lilies, bright and happy sunflowers, and orchids and chrysanthemums-" The leaflet girl blushed slightly and ducked her head, cutting herself off, embarrassed at her actions. It was cute when Niko rambled excitedly, but not when she did."I should stop rambling. Sorry about that." She glanced back up at him and smiled slightly, "I'd love to be your friend, Niko. I think we'd have some fun exploring together."

Niko bounded up and down, excited at the prospect of an adventure. "You know I've never been to the other side of this meadow, where the willow trees grow" He was referring to the eastern half of this meadow, bordered by a forest of willow trees. There were also some pine trees, but beyond that he didn't know anything about. He always came in from the west, since his abode was located in that direction. Such confident knowledge of cardinal directions is due to the instinctual awareness of the sun's position in the sky. The meadow was definitely not a place of danger, he just never went that far because he would always find something to distract him before he even got there. "I just never went that far because I would always find something to distract me before I even got there."So he started to trot eastward, his focus still on Akari. He wasn't aware of it, but his antlers had straddled a spider's web such that the web was now spanning between them with a large black and yellow spider in the middle. A rather confused spider, who merely flinched a little but remained still for the most part.
