Maybe you snuck down this path when Carrmin wasn't looking, or maybe he allowed you to leave, with a grim look on his face, because he realized the school believed you were ready. Such a sad expression doesn't belong on such a young boy, you think. But then you remember Carrmin is anything but young. You're not even sure if he remembers how old he is.
Nevertheless, you take the road less-traveled. Be warned, there are creatures on this path that view you as food, and you are beyond Carrmin's sphere on influence, and he cannot protect you anymore. There are also pits, traps, and dozens of other things trying to keep you from reaching the end of the path. The forest does not want you here. It's sending a message. Turn back, it says. Turn back.
Should you make it to the end of the path, you will be met with an incredible sight.
A giant black tower stretches to the sky. You aren't sure how tall it is, but it's... very tall. Incredibly tall. You can tell this tower was built to be a symbol for its owner. Whoever ordered this thing to be built was vain, and wanted to be the most important person in the land. A queen? A king? You aren't sure.
You might notice the flag waving at the top, but it's too far away to figure out what is on it.
But, if they are there, what draws your attention is the dragons.
There are two dragons. One of them, fortunately for you, hasn't seemed to notice you yet. Its scales are red as blood, and it circles the Tower from above, waiting for an opening to attack. You wonder how you've never seen this dragon flying from the campus before. Is this place protected by a magic shield? Probably.
If the red dragon is out, then the white one must be out as well. You may have seen it down in the Catacombs, if you ever went there or went the right way. The white dragon looks identical to the red in every way, except that it's... well... white. It sits by the tower, guarding it and watching the red dragon. If you get too close, however, it will see you.
On most days, the white and red dragons will be out by the Tower. On rare occasions, they will be down below in the Catacombs instead. You are unsure which dragon is more dangerous, or, for that matter, which one will be more likely to attack.
You may be wondering if it was a good idea to follow the path less traveled in the first place...
Welcome to Merlin's Tower.
Note: Students are forbidden to explore the forest alone.
