I know the mods are just the damage control crew and all, but locking threads in SF like frozen_water's thread discussing the bs/contorted logic one mod used to delete her megathread, and the now-permabanned iibreesus' "Oh Gaia..." thread doesn't help calm the growing discontent in Site Feedback. It just insults the Gaians who hang out in SF and only makes the mods look bad in the eyes of the users.

I seriously think that Gaia should try to get the mods all on the same page enforcement-wise, since mods contradicting each other just weakens their authority in the long run, and makes them easy prey for the more aggressive users (read: ED Regs. There's a reason mods rarely post in ED) who won't accept the boilerplate explanations the mods use to try and calm down the unhappy Gaians. Locking legit threads and using boilerplate/vague reasons like "this thread isn't feedback so much as a complaint toward a specific mod" are the equivalent of poking a bear with a stick. It's asking for trouble, especially given the current atmosphere of forums like Site Feedback.

Of course, given the way Gaia's headed, I'm not sure that Gaia Interactive gives a s**t about what goes on the forums, the lifeblood and foundation of the site, anymore.

As the Zen Master says, "We'll see."

I may be paranoid, but I think some mods and admins are working against their will. Doing these crazy things lately to keep their position intact.

Sadly, I have to disagree with some of the OP.

Having feedback about the site is one instance, having feedback against a particular user who works for Gaia is another instance. The latter isn't feedback for the site, as it is for a specific user. Users have the ability to contact another Mod about a moved thread, or any other instance against them to make sure they aren't being targeted by a particular Mod. I believe there is a thread dedicated to reporting corrupt Mods, but I don't know if it still exists or not.

In the case of Bree, we don't know the circumstances surround her ban. She can explain every bit of her side of the story as she wants, and a Mod can do the same, if brought into the public. Sadly, if we don't know what happened, we can't assume. When you assume, you're making an a** out of you and me.

I think you're being paranoid, Darius. Mods work on a volunteer bases, and if they're being forced to work against their will, they can decline the position. It's entirely their choice to do what they need to do in order to enforce the rules. SF has been pretty hectic since Summer, and it isn't getting better. Mods are having a tough time as it is, without users accusing them of some under-handed scheme to shut the user-base up.

That doesn't mean all cases are like this, as an example to Scarface's thread.

Instead of being re-active, let's be pro-active about the situation. Otherwise, this place will be no better than RE: Gaia.

You're right. I just have friends that used to be mods and staff here. When I told them about scarface and bree, they were confounded as to the method. Some of them left as early as 2012. I just wonder how many rule changes for mods have been made since then.

I shouldn't be drawing conclusions though, and for that I apologize.

It's OK. We all get pretty heated when we're passionate about the things we love, or need to defend. Cooler heads prevail, and it's advice SF really needs. emotion_facepalm

Just goes to show that sometimes even us '03 gaians can lose our cool.

But you're right. We all have to get on the same page. It'll get the best results. I've even thought of inviting certain mods here that way this place does not become a second "Revolution".

I left them because the guild was starting to seem more important than the goal.

Recommending Mods wouldn't be a bad idea. At least, it would give us some insight on the procedures, even if general... and if they're allowed. D: But I'm sure they want to help users, too.

Unfortunately, they can't provide us any insight into the procedures since they're required to sign an nondisclosure agreement prior to becoming a mod. At least according to what the recently de-modded Rgoodermote told myself and a bunch of other EDers when we were in the middle of beating him to a bloody pulp over his ignorant claim that "Gaia gold carries no monetary value, even if you pay for it because the Terms of Service says so."

Most likely, then. SF and GCD are my home sub-forums. heart
