as one of the most advanced animals on the planit we are soo stupid......why cant people open up there eyes and see that religion dont work...i mean (sorry if i offend people here) where was god(and i am spaking of every god) at the 911 terrorist attack....i mean i bet people were asking for help...did he save anyone..NO!
people died
people die every day from famin and disease...does he help
NO!
but still there are people who sit there watching all this destruction and carnage fom their chairs saying "god will save us"
bet if they went to a war torn country...or a country where half the population are suffering from aids andf the other half dead from genocide they would change their minds soon enough
(and before people come back with "it was meant to be like that" DONT!)
(and i know this is more of a rant than a desucion so feel free to call me anything you like)

It's silly to state an insult and then state you do not offend. If you do not wish to offend, do not state the insult at all; specifically, do not call believers in a higher form "stupid". It only retracts from your credibility.

Now, why do I believe?

1.) Simply saying there's nothing is just that- simple. If there's one thing I've learned about life, it is anything but. Now, this is not to say I blindly believe; I open the chance, as right now, for people to question me, so that I may discover the reason as to the ways I think and feel. I also study first-hand what I believe; no one reads a book to me- I dive in and read it myself. True faith is not spoon-fed: it is discovered and grown.

2.) Animals die everyday, as well, due to various (and at times, horrible and painful) manners. We are part of this cycle, and are not exempt from the various dangers we place ourselves into. Hell, our digestive systems, if not properly attended to, are filled with combustible chemicals. And as we are part of this cycle, we cannot depend on the higher power to constantly save us from the consequences. There were warning signs for 9/11, but the government didn't act properly upon them; hence, we have a tragic wage-up. Those that died only died in vain if those that live do not learn anything from it. Life is learning- we recieve, send, and process information, every moment our spark continues, as does every other spark, ranging from man to bacteria.

3.) Too many times religious beliefs, ancient and modern, come close to what science proves. Faith just puts matters into metaphors that people may better understand and connect to.

Also, whether or not a god or gods exist, they obviously could not answer every prayer for help. As to 9/11, maybe it was meant to happen. Maybe a God was up there going "America? Hellooo, time to wake up!" In their eyes, it would not be the benefit of some people or even a country, but their creation as a whole. 9/11 is not at all something strange. There are terrorist attacks everywhere; just now someone decided it was the US's turn.

Religion is also much more than believing in a god or gods. It's about morality and community. It's a way of life. Some people, I can understand, don't believe in the idea of a higher power, and that's fine too. But you will have to understand and become resigned to (if not accept) the fact that other people will disagree if you ever wish to be content in life.

Denying the existence of God simply because there is evil in the world is not only stupid, it's laughable. First of all, the world is not PERFECT, because of sin. Second of all, God doesn't always do things the way we think they should go. (My ways are not your ways, etc. etc.) Third, how can you talk about all the bad things that go on in the world without thinking about the good things? For example, Hurricane Katrina was devastating, yes.. but did you know that it sparked the largest amount of money donated for a charitable cause in history? Food for thought.

Oh how I lament dualistic philosophies of good and evil....

Are hot and cold polarities? No. Every scientist will tell you that cold is nothing more than an absence of heat. Likewise, oblivion is no more than an absence of creation.

Heat : cold wind :: creation : destruction.

did it ever occur to you that since people are always going on about how they wish 'God' would keep out of their lives and no interfere in their business, that maybe, just maybe 'God' has done just this.

'god' is probably sitting up there respecting our wishes, and since 9/10 people wish for solitude away from 'God's' help, he listens to the majority?

this1 also thinks you should be more careful what you ay when you speak. the things you have said, are not only untrue (this1 is agonostic so doesnt necessarily believe in a 'God'), but also very offensive.
