User ImageRose was out and about roaming the plains. It had been a while since she had any sort of socialization and even if she did, it's not like she would of remembered any of it. Every day was pretty much a reset for her. She had no capability of holding long term memory. She did remember bits and pieces of her family, but for the most part their names were a complete mystery. Rose looked up at the cool and cloudy sky. "Winter will come soon this year...perhaps sooner then expected." She collapsed down for a second exhausted from the walk. "Still...I got to try to make it through again. I can't be a burden to anyone, especially ma and pa. The last thing I want to do is cause them to worry and my siblings..." She trailed off. "Who are my siblings?" She shook her head, picked herself up again, and continued her walk. Maybe she could run into someone for once. Even if she wouldn't remember them the next day it still might perk her spirits up.

Zuluk was walking by his mothers side, staring up at her reverently. He always hated straying from her - even when Vodka had wanted to play. He was mostly content just being quiet and following her - watching her. He was worried. She'd been having nightmares again, ever since Maxx and Strawberry had left. She was fine for a while. Then she saw the rest of the pups growing and leaving. Zuluk didn't think anyone knew what to do about it. Just then, his mother turned to look at him with a slight smile and Zuluk grinned brightly, swishing his tail at the affection and giving an excited yip. It made his heart soar to get his mother's notice.

He had heard a voice, he was sure of it. He stopped in his tracks, flicking and swiveling his ears. He...thought he remembered it. He felt like he should. Then he heard a thud, slight vibrations in the ground, and more of the voice.

"Zuluk?" Ashy called gently at his distraction, following his ears with her gaze. Now that she was paying attention - she heard it too. Torn between growling at it in warning, she also thought something struck her as....familiar about it. Like this other creatures was a part of her, in a way. Before she could rush off in pursuit of the sound, she stumbled over her son, who was already ahead of her and had ignored her inquiry completely. As he brushed her off, he had such determination in his gaze that she couldn't help but to smile a little. He reminded her so much of Fa...

Zuluk had raced off - it sounded like someone needed help. The sudden adrenaline rush sharpened his senses - he could now smell the crisp, cold air wafting from the ice-mountains. But it was more intense than that, as though they threatened very soon to engulf everything. Even though when his mother began to stir she had run into him, he payed it no mind so focused was he. Sticking his nose to the ground, then bringing it back to the air while he walked, he shortly saw a red heap on the ground.

Without thinking, the noble pup rushed over, nosing under her belly to help her get up - ignoring the obvious size and age difference of a few months between them. "You are not a burden!" he roared, though not unkindly. He looked deep into her eyes - searching. This was the one that he'd hardly seen much of, so busy was she off on her own. He should've been around her more. Why was she out wandering again? It was a distant memory, his short time with her. But it was there. And he felt responsibility for her now she was here.

Ashy trailed in after her son, panting. The cold air for some reason - while she loved it - always got to her smoke-damaged lungs. With the thought came a shudder. Then she took notice of what her puppy was running at - a red mass crumpled on the ground. Her eyes glazed over for the briefest of moments as she saw herself in the place of the smaller red wolf. A flash of a memory crossed her mind: she saw scars, blood, smelled fire. A smell like burnt iron scalded her nostrils. And looming over her she saw -

With a jump and small whine, Ashy tore herself away from the memory with a blink. She felt an overwhelming need to run - but then her son exploded with passion. She looked at him, and at..."Rose" she breathed, nothing more than a whisper. The puppy who always wanted her space - why, Ashy thought that she was.... She shook her head. She wouldn't allow herself to think of that. She had a vacant expression on her face and slowly she moved forward, as though ashamed.

Rose turned her head around to see who had just approached. She squinted her eyes for a bit to make them both out. It took her a while, but eventually she did recognize her mother. "Mom?" She wasn't sure what to say exactly then she looked down towards Zuluk even more confused. She cocked her head to the side. "Hello there....pleasure to meet you." Rose looked back up at her mother then back to Zuluk trying to think who in the world he could be. "Um...my name's Rose and you are?" She was tired of standing there in sheer confusion. Maybe she could eventually remember things or at least she was hoping she could. "I...I'm sorry, I was scouting the grounds to see what was around this area and to see what the weather was going to be like." She looked back down at the ground a bit lost in confusion yet again.

Zuluk wasn't surprised that she couldn't remember him. They were both..very young. He...didn't blame her for not remembering, it just proved to him that - young as he was, at the time, barely able to crawl - he should have helped more. He got a good whiff of her - and he could smell it on her. Normal as she tried to appear right now, when confronted with others...Zuluk had the fiercest sense that something was...wrong about her, physically, even if it didn't show. She was a kind wolf - but her shyness, her quiescence...there had to be an underlying cause; he could smell it, feel it. He had backed up to give his older sister some space, chuckling nervously, "Oh, I'm...Zuluk." he flinched a little, as he introduced himself."Are you okay...sis....? I saw you were..." he trailed off as he remembered that he had bolted away from his mother so abruptly. As he was turning, he watched her relive the memory, and snap herself out of it. His heart went out to her, and he watched, carefully, as she approached. He felt..awkward, witnessing the scene unfold. He stepped back further, so she would have room.

How she had grown...With Zuluk around and the other pups gone, in addition to her extended time spent as a puppy, she had somehow forgotten the passage of time. Time that could never be gotten back, that she had notoriously squandered. When Rose recognized her, she felt a little fluttering pang in her heart - excitement, and shame. As the apology escaped her pup's jowls, she increased her pace, straining her lungs further, and embraced the young she-wolf. She practically tackled her daughter, nuzzling against her, licking her maw, curling her neck over the young one's head protectively and whining in both elation and sorrow. "No.." she started. "No, I'm sorry. I....I was never around. Oh, you must hate me, no wonder you're off here by yourself."

Zuluk watched the scene rather uncomfortable - why did his mother always beat herself up? He snorted slightly, through his nose, in frustration, though it didn't seem like it was noticed. Getting back to his paws, "Well, Rose, I think that you always need a good scouting buddy, right?" he grinned at her a bit, nobly, and puffed out his chest.

Rose was still kind of confused, but she let some things go. "I think I'm ok. I don't know. To tell you the truth I can't remember much at all except for a couple things now a days." Rose was still a bit confused with why her mom seemed to get upset over the whole situation. "Actually...I don't remember a lot of others being around, but I'm sure somewhere back in time that you all hung out with me." She nuzzled her mother back.

It had been quite some time since she had actually seen her family, but at the same time she couldn't quite piece together anything at all. She wasn't angry at them, but she was just rather confused about the whole situation. "Well I don't hate you. I can't hate you when I have no clue of what's going on. In this case I'm just gonna believe the positive for now and say you guys were around a majority of the time." She stopped for a second a bit sad before looking down. "Even if you were around a lot I can't seem to remember things as good as I used to anymore. It's like I got a cold of some sort that makes me tired and messes with my head." Rose hated to burden her mother with a sob story so she made sure to quickly change the topic. "Oh...what happened to the other siblings?" She also looked back to Zuluk. "Well if you want that's fine. A nice walk can sometimes help me think straight. Although I guess the cold air isn't doing justice at the moment."
