History: Jade's parents are people who loved adventure. Her mother works in Africa as part of the Peace Corps and her father worked on a sonar ship, as the only medic. Sometimes, the crew would allow Jade on the ship, when her mother was away.
If she wasn't on the ship, she was living with her grandmother and going to a public school. Her grandmother helped her to find the good in most things and to always hope.
One summer, Jade went on the ship with her father. Pirates attacked as the ship sailed through enemy waters. The pirates loaded unmarked crates onto the ship. The crew decided that the only way to get rid of the pirates was to blow up the ship. Jade, her father and some of the small crew were let down, in the dark of the night, in a lifeboat. The ship blew up and the crates held a chemical that reached the lifeboat. The lifeboat broke when a large fragment of the ship landed in it. Survivors were brought onto a naval ship and cared for. Jade had gone blind by the blast and chemicals, though she can still see some shadows. She learned that her father did not make it and the crew who survived soon died because of the chemical poison.
Jade learned of her abilities, while on the ship. One crew member caught her practicing and contacted Charles Xavier, right away. His brother was in the school and he knew that Jade would be safe.
