Before Death:
Before She died, Yuri was a gymnast. She was all over the news and on magazine covers for being the youngest gymnast ever. But during the olympics at the age of 14, she was on the high beam and slipped. She landed oddly on her leg and broke it. A fragment of bone escaped into her bloodstream and punctured her heart, killing her.
Before school:
Yuri awoke and was in the 70th North rukon district for 2 years, thinking that she wasn't dead. Some how she wandered into the world of the living unnoticed by other souls, and was instantly discovered by hollows. She had always hated being around others. fended for herself, and never trusted anyone. But around the human age of 16, She was saved by the previous captain of squad 11 who was sent to gather information on strange occurrences that had been caused by Yuri in the world of the living.
Even though they only met briefly the captain felt attached to her and risked his life to get her back to the soul society when doing konso failed. After saving her, that night that the captain returned he died and his last words were," I want that girl to take my place". Then he died without another word. The captain's lieutenant seeked her out and carried out the final words of his captain.

While her powers became well known, She tried hard to forget about all of the people who despised her . However that always failed and she was constantly being outcasted for her already determined position as captain. However, Her fighting technique is by far way different than any other captains' due to her gymnast backround.

Inner World:the inner world that contains Shinu is basically a frozen waste land. there is nothing but snow falling from the sky, a full moon, a empty town where in the center of town is a Giant throne on witch Shinu sits on with a bored expression on her face.
