Username: Yushika
Fox's Name: Poe
Fox's Mood: Scarred
Personality: Poe can't forgive himself. He blames himself for his tribes end, and he hates himself for everything he had done to contribute to it. He's hard to approach these days, primarily because he doesn't want to be approached. He's afraid of repeating the same mistakes over and over, and thus avoids people as much as possible.
If you get close, however, and press hard enough, you'll find a male who is sweet and just lost. He doesn't know who he is anymore, and deep down he wants to fix everything. He finds himself cursed, unworthy of others, and yet this doesn't stop the desire to be around people. He's lonely, and he can't deny it. He wants to be around people. He wants to be accepted. He wants to smile and laugh. He wants a family. He wants to help heal people and be healed. He's a kind male, but the past lingers around him, and it's oh so frightening.
Prompt Reply:
"Seven devils will run this tribe to hell.
One will listen only to their inner voices.
One will consume everything and leave the caves bare.
One will taint the innocent and lead them to ruin.
One will rip apart the heroes.
One will possess anything of value for their lonely heart.
One will sit idly by as life is snatched.
And one will forget their self worth and lose everything."

Pride
Disappointment flooded his face as he peered at the sole survivor of his litter. Five BCRs laid, cracked and empty, to the side. Their colors were pale, a forgotten memory of what they had once been. And yet, this singular abomination had survived. The kit wiggled and wailed for its mother, bright eyes peering around for her. His father grimaced in disgust as the child fixed glowing neon eyes on, watching that tiny kit roll around and beg for his mother.
'Disgusting'. His father hissed in his head, recoiling from the strange thing with that..... putrid mouth. What was that even? The woman who bore the children didn't have such a mouth, and neither did he. Yet here it was, this glowing freak seeking a mother who wasn't interested in coming to take care of the child.
"Be quiet, vermin." He hissed lowly, and immediately the kit silenced itself, glancing up. "It seems your brothers and sisters didn't survive the cold this year. You'll have to do." Do what? He needed a successor, and even if this..... thing was a monster he was the only thing he could rely on. His own blood, while tainted, was the only thing able to hold his position as Elder. Not like he was giving it up soon, but.... just in case.
He turned his back on the child, exiting the den and jerking his head for the care-takers to do their job. A job the mother had abandoned. He'd find her, sooner or later, and punish her for leaving the mistake on its own.
For now, he had other pressing matters to deal with.
Years later....
For years, Poe watched his father behind the legs of Carers. His father only spent enough time a day to train him, spouting words Poe couldn't quite comprehend but frantically tried to. Then, after each lesson, his father would leave, growling lowly if the child so much as called out after his father.
Yet, Poe loved him. He was his father. His beloved dad. His mom was within the tribe, so he had heard, but she had gone missing the day he hatched. This was okay, he didn't mind, because he had his perfect father. His father may have anger issues, and perhaps he seemed to make decisions that others didn't always seemed to agree to, but Poe noticed the power his father had. He always knew what to do, and how to get everyone out of trouble. When the berries shriveled his father led them to a new location, full of berries and herbs galore. When the prey diminished his father discovered a way to steal from the nearby town, giving the prey time to breed and restore their numbers.
His father was absolute in his eyes. And yet, Poe noticed the growing fear within the tribe of the man. Foxes would whisper about the Elder having changed. They'd scurry away when the Elder turned his head to view them. At times, Poe even noticed female foxes warning one another not to breed with the male, unless they wished for cursed children.
But Poe stayed true to his father. Even when the water began to dry up and his father seemed adamant on not moving. Even when food became low and the Elder refused to feed the elderly, claiming them useless to begin with. His father had to have a reason for his ways. Even when, one day, the Elder took a litter of kits to the mountain, and only three returned. His father began removing the weak kits in the litters, but it was okay, right? His father had to have a reason.
When Poe became an adult he noticed his father starting to remove of those who defied him. The man snarled when others recommended ideas, and the next day they'd vanish. He began to challenge other tribes, tossing aside others concerns and favoring his own views. Poe's loyalty began to waver, and yet.... could he really doubt the man who raised him? The man who loved him despite his mutations? He was loved, right? His father did love him..... he had to!
And then, the war happened. His father took out several members and attacked another tribe. It raged for weeks, and Poe waited for his father to return home. However, one day, only four foxes returned, carrying the limp corpse of a fallen Elder.
It was then Poe became an Elder.

Gluttony
The first year was troublesome. Poe was far too new, and unprepared. Mourning didn't help the case, and after such a heavy blow to their numbers he was certain any mistake could lead them to failure. The neighboring tribe still held a grudge, and often sent Scouts to steal their kill. Eventually, Poe summoned the courage to move the tribe near the ocean.
Things began to look up. Kits were born, members joined, and foxes began to settle. Kill was hard to get at first due to their lack of knowledge of the prey around, but they managed. Eventually, it became easier, and they were stocked full of food. Poe stored the food in a system of caves, where the rest of the tribe also resided, and life seemed good.
And then an orange fox arrived.
Poe accepted the orange fox into their tribe. The fox seemed rather off, always hungry and always lusting after food, but he seemed harmless enough. The foxes began to notice his constant hunger, but they let it go. It'd be fine. Winter came, and food became scarce, and the foxes began to whisper amongst themselves. Poe was a kind ruler, but would he lead them to ruin as his father had? No, surely he'd not! Poe would make sure of it.
The winter was harsh. Kits were lost, and foxes were ridden sick, but they would manage. And then, one night, Poe woke to a wail. Rushing to the sound, he discovered the orange fox laying within the food den, which was bare. A Hunter looked at Poe with fear and horror. There was no food to be found in winter, they were surely doomed. The orange fox, full and round from consuming so much food, barely batted an eye when Poe lashed out at him. With fury and remorse that he had allowed someone such as the fox in, Poe kicked the orange fox out and turned to his tribe.
They lost many that winter.

Lust and Wrath
The next year started with tears. Many had been lost due to the lack of food, and despite Poe moving the foxes to a new location it was hopeless. More than half of the numbers were gone, and he blamed himself. How could he have allowed that fox into the tribe? How could he have allowed this to happen?
And then the two troubles happened.
A blue vixen who already lived within the tribe began to stir up rumors of being a flirt who had laid her eyes on the males who were mated already. Poe began to notice as the vixen would slink off into the distance, purring sweet nothings into mated foxes ears and giggling as she leapt away. No matter the amount of talks she didn't stop, and eventually her eyes laid on him. Still young, Poe fell into her trap. After all, he was only a fox like everyone else.
He did not know of the red fox who loved her dearly. Who was a sweet male and tormented by her. She'd whisper into his ear, purring sweetly and pretending to love him to receive his attention, and then dumping him for another. This happened constantly, and his innocent heart became hurt and angry. She promised him her loyalty, and then ran off and had BCR's with a random male, and then promised herself to Poe. The red male couldn't handle it anymore, and eventually murdered the BCRs and attacked the men she had batted her eyes at, and perhaps shared a bed with.
Several strong foxes, known for their wisdom and ability to protect the tribe, laid dead that night. The blue vixen ran off with several other men, fleeing the red fox and yet enticing her own little group for herself.
Without their warriors and without the other halves to mated pairs, less kits were born and the tribe lost to another tribes attack.
What was once a tribe of a hundred was now a small handful.

Greed and Sloth
The tribe was too small, now. Only about twenty survived, and many feared the future. Poe could not calm their frightened hearts no matter what he tried, yet he refused to give up. He could not lose his tribe, not after he had fought so hard for it. Yet again, he blamed himself. If only he had sent the blue vixen running, he could have saved the red male and the others. Slowly, the male began to fall into depression, and started to let slip some details he should have noticed.
One yellow fox noticed his weakness and started to take advantage of it. The fox began his path to take everything, seizing control of the food supply, medicine supply, and the likes. He scared out foxes from the biggest cave and resided in it. He grabbed the best kill, best medicines, and anything human-made for himself. His cave began to become adorned with random trinkets, stolen from other tribe-members and other tribes in general. He wanted everything, and even when his cave seemed to tight to move he wasn't satisfied.
Meanwhile, a light blue vixen was the sole carer left, and she had neglected her job. Two new litters came, and she ignored their BCRs. She favored sleep over any job, and often would curl up and snooze within her cave. During one morning, she slept through her job, waking up to an empty cave. The mothers, having come to see their kids, threw a fit and brought Poe over. Days passed with no news, until a scout finally came home with news of a neighboring tribe also suffering from low numbers, and they had just received two random litters.
Poe seized the strongest foxes, men and women who had lasted throughout the years, and rushed off to retrieve the kits at night. The rules were simple, no one was to attack others. They would slip in while everyone was asleep. It'd be just fine, if everyone kept to themselves and just grabbed the BCRs. However, one certain yellow fox did not. As they crept into the campsite, the yellow fox spotted a den full of beautiful necklaces and ran into it, awakening the Elder within. The tribe rose to their feet, and a battle ensued. Poe managed to flee, however too many had been lost.
What was twenty was now ten.

Envy
Poe hit rock bottom. He was a failure. He was a mistake. His father had been wrong to train him to take care of this tribe. Within two years Poe had let it crumble. Now, all was left was ten foxes, scarred and bruised and unable to keep hope alive. And this was all Poe's fault. He wasn't needed as who he was. He wasn't worth their love or their lives. He was a man of no worth.
Poe began to blacken on the inside. Anger welled up when foxes mated. He began to hate the sight of others joy. He was a screw up, he had damned them all. Hurt welled under his anger, and eventually Poe started to become corrupted. He began to desire others lives. He wanted to give up the Elder status and become like them, so carefree and happy. He wanted a mate, kids, and the responsibility they had. It was lesser than his. It wasn't one where their lives depended on him.
And so, Poe began to lash out. He began to snap and demand. Anything another had that he didn't was immediately bad, and he'd reject it. Mating? No. Not allowed. Having children? No, never. He'd go out of his way to wreck relationships. He'd deliberately chase out foxes who he was the most envious of. He started to desire their features, hating his own. He spiraled into depression, and the foxes recoiled in terror as their Elder became a shadow of the man he once was. No longer was he the sweet, compassionate, and caring Elder they knew. And so, they left.
By the time he came to his senses, realizing the destruction he was causing, it was too late. He had forgotten what he was, a man who they trusted despite his ability to be too trusting and too honest. He had never hurt them before, and he was a kind soul. He had led them through the hard times, and stayed by their side. And yet, he had forgotten. He had let his thoughts and envy consume him, and it had led him to the loss of everything.
He was now alone.
