Wan is... so cool.
But I felt really sad seeing that he felt like he failed... but his last wish was to bring balance to the world, and through Raava, he would do so.
Hmmm so when the Avatar dies in the Avatar State... Raava ceases to exist? Wow... the Firelords Sozin to Ozai would have... done something far worse then what they comprehended... Fools...
I like the way Wan became the Avatar, but at the same time... I feel cheated in thinking all this time, the elements came from the Dragons, Badgermoles, Tui and La, and Air Bison.
On the topic of Air Bison, Fire Nation Avatar followers raising Air Bison... probably like a means of saying sorry for trying to destroy the Airbenders...
Also, at the end, do you fee like those islands that Korra flew over were actually Lion Turtles? Like that island one Aang visited.

It was an amazing episode that really elevated a mediocre season.
But I too felt like the story dampened the origin story of bending. It wasn't about mankinds ability to interact with the spirit world and learn to bend the energies within them that granted them bending, lionturtles gave it to them. Firebenders did not learn to bend fire by following from the dragons, the lionturtles gave it to them. Airbenders did not learn to bend air by following the skybisons, lionturtles gave it to them. It's now explainable why not everyone can bend, the lionturtles didn't give it to everyone before they decided to stopped giving away the power.

Actually, now that I think about it...
It's actually kinda true that the Firebenders learned the ways of Firebending from the Dragons, when Wan learns how to properly use fire with that one Dragon. Learns to make it one with himself.
I would say that the other Benders learned to use the elements properly when they searched for the "original benders". They probably learned things that they couldn't from the Lion Turtles. The Lions may have given the gift itself, but the actual martial arts side, and making it becoming "one" with you, was from the Dragons, Air Bison, Badgermoles and Tui and La.
I was also thinking, that with so many Avatars... that Raava is now very very powerful. The combined Spiritual energy of all the 10,000 years of Avatars... must be hardcore...

Hmmm so because the Avatar is the source of Light and Happiness in the world via being one with Raava... that means the Avatar can never be corrupted. Probably why Roku never joined in the 100 year war. No Avatar could be converted to darkness, because they were the Light itself.
Though that makes me wonder if Unalaq wants to join with Vaatu O_O

Which was why he had Korra open the south portal. Very interesting. I wonder how he was able to open the northern portal...

I actually kinda like that the ability to bend elements was given rather than a random picking of "special people". I agree...but I don't. sweatdrop Before you could say 'oh they pissed off their element's great spirit in their last life so they're punished with no bending in this one' or something for why some people couldn't bend but others could, but now the question is why did the ability go from being granted by...whatever the lion turtles are to being genetic. I do agree with whoever said that they could've learned better bending by watching the source. Like how the firebenders were amazed at Wan's bending after he worked with the white dragon. Or the way I heard someone complaining that Korra just punches the water and doesn't use that octopus move and other less 'hit the target' techniques. So pre-bison airbending would be Korra's punching style from the first episode of season 2 and after the bison would be well....what it is. xp Cuz I doubt those giant bison could dodge around like Tenzin. Or Aang. Like in the first episode of season 2, where he's dodging all those giant rock disc...things. xp

I finally caught up and watched Beginnings this weekend. That was one of the most beautiful stories I have ever seen unfold. My heart broke when Ravaa almost faded after Wan failed to stop the battle between his human and spirit friends... Then, of course, his death was tragic and lovely at the same time.
The only issue I had was the fact that spirits could be swayed so easily from Good to Evil. I don't recall this major influx ever happening before Book 2 introduced the concept. It makes the spirits seem far less powerful and not as enjoyable to be around. I mean, I wouldn't want to be near spirits if they could turn on me.
