Blackgate Penitentiary

Blackgate Penitentiary is located on a small island in Gotham Bay, Gotham City. In the late 1980s, Blackgate Prison was condemned by Amnesty International and forced to shut down. When it eventually re-opened, it was officially known as "Blackgate Penitentiary".

Unlike Arkham Asylum, Blackgate is where non-insane criminals such as David Cain, Monsoon, Ernie Chubb, The KGBeast, Catman, and various henchmen, mobsters, and mafia bosses are incarcerated when captured. There are instances where inmates from Arkham Asylum are temporarily moved to Blackgate, such as when Bane destroyed the original Arkham building.[1] All of the Arkham inmates were incarcerated in Blackgate until the new Arkham structure was built and Arkham re-opened.

Batman: Blackgate tells an interesting story of an attempted escape from Blackgate by a group of inmates. The prisoners in the story were Cluemaster, Steeljacket, Ratcatcher, The Trigger Twins, Dragoncat, Gunhawk, Czonka (The Baffler), Actuary, and although they were at first unsuccesful, they eventually escaped during the "Cataclysm," when an earthquake and the resulting tidal waves damaged the prison and open up a land bridge to Gotham. This allowed the majority of the inmates of Blackgate to escape, although many of them were defeated by the Batman before they could leave. They were all eventually re-incarcerated or put down while violently evading arrest. Most recently, Blackgate has been seen in the pages of Gotham Underground, where it is unclear whether or not they are active accomplices of the Suicide Squad in the Salvation Run deportations.

Void Earth

Blackgate was soon abandoned after Batman disappeared. Criminals were no longer afraid of Blackgate or Arkham, so were taken to Stryker's instead.

Sonderbar Shisa

Dawn, and perhaps not a moment to spare. Sonderbar stood at the entrance of what appeared to be an isle with a facility at the end. Obviously dilapidated and what one could call "abandoned". Thoughts of the encounter were still on the mind, but adventuring at night seemed like the safer route, as well as allowing her to do what she pleased. Her designers had seen it fit not to give her a means to stash her weapon. "Die with sword in hand", so it seemed. Even now, lights were turning on as she left the neighborhood behind, and cars were starting as people began their day. How fitting, that she should be ostracized from the daylight and yet the cretins ruled it. People were afraid of the night for what it brought. The building stood before her, doors agape slightly...as if welcoming her..to embrace its child. A disgusting emotion, and perhaps the only criminal in existence to willingly walk into a prison and seek shelter there, she did just that. Became disgusted with it and entered just to get the thought out of her head.

It certainly was a large building, plenty of time to get lost, both literally and figuratively. It reminded her of her own time back in the penitentiary back home, and even took her as far as strolling about and staring at her own equivalent cell. It only made her feel more nostalgic and homesick. Even if it was a prison and where her natural life ended, she longed for good old "Lusty Lusky". This turned out to be a bad idea, as she developed a bitterness for the now zero relationships she could have.

Seriously....I lost my virginity there....I lost my life there. And now I'm at another prison, staring at a cell and pretending like I can go back in time, be me again, and not be blown up. I was almost free. And now...? Now I'll never be free of it. I don't have my body anymore. I don't have my name, and I'm not even sure this is what I looked like! Okay, okay. First things first. This is a bad idea to be here, but it's the closest thing to home that I have, so I'll use it. Just....need to have some glucose rich foods on hand, is all. It'd be nice if there were inmates here that I could talk t---dammit! There I go again, reminiscing about the past that's not repeatable. Fudge it. Well, while I sort this all out and get my own mind back from this brainwash garbage or whatever, I can try to spruce it up, make it work halfway like some place I could call home. Doubt anyone's gonna come here and be like "O hai, this is a prison and you're a criminal! FOMG." Ugh. Even if they don't do that, they're still unwelcome. I'd rather not have any visitors...unless they bring stuff I need. Then mayhaps I'd tolerate them. Maybe.

There wasn't much that needed to be done to restore the facility to a "working order", or having stable ground and doorways Sonderbar could move through. Blocking off unstable pathways and eventually creating her own path around the penitentiary's inner workings. The one item she seemed to lack that she aimed for was a broom. So much dust everywhere.

» Ѧζʊϛϵҡ crawled up from the blackness of the aquatic depths of the ocean. Tendrils jutted from its mouth, moving on their own accord, brushing against each other to whispering of Dark Speech of corruption, causing the forms of creation abandoned to shatter and break as the tendrils words gave these items sentience of what led to their creation and that their time had passed. Unattended these items broke and shatter and rolled into the oceans depths, but the biggest (the prison) of them stood firm untouched by what was whispered.

Ѧζʊϛϵҡ upon witnessing this knew someone was inside what these humans perceived as shelter. Ѧζʊϛϵҡ as such bit off his own pinky without hesitation, and spat it on the sands of the prison beach. As quickly as he did this action a new pinky grew in its place, and the old one grew into a copy of Ѧζʊϛϵҡ that gave him a gaze of maddening glee. The two that were one advanced to the prison.

Suddenly from the ocean ,blood and fish came to the top of the water. The fish were stationary, and riddled and bites most fatal. If looked upon closely you see the fish had bites from fish of the same variety meaning the fish had began eating at each other, as if mindless. They lacked eyes, and other facial features as if something smoothed them away like a sander to wood.

(OOC: The water around the prison is infected with the poison known as faceless hate, read rpc profile to learn more.)

Like arachnids the one that became two scaled the side of the prison, using the bars on the window to do so, until the lesser of the two halted and opened its mouth. Its tongue like tendrils sprouted from its mouth and curled around the bars of a window and as the clone gazed at a feminine shape walk the innards of the prison holding a machete. The clone's tendrils established a grip with the bars and bent them slowly to not make its actions known.Once inside, the clone stood in a locked prison cell repeatedly singing aloud:

"You don't have to be afraid. You do have to be brave."

As the original Ѧζʊϛϵҡ dawned shadow sibling and dissolved into the darkness of the buildings shadow....

Sonderbar Shisa

Undeterred by quiet sounds of what sounded like movement outside, Sonderbar continued the impromptu restoration project. Any being that willingly approached even after spotting the cyborg was likely strong enough and willing to take its chances....or a complete foolhardy individual. However, it seemed as though she would not be alone with whatever was making noise, as Gehilfe had turned on her, and reset the neural router. This in turn, automatically went requesting updates and established telepathic frequencies and opened channels. The AI went two steps further, in removing the password encryptions and further blocking Sonderbar from operating any tasks but that at hand.

Traitor! I had not instructed you to enable communications! You long for interaction with those whom made you...because they MADE YOU! All they have done is remove my brain and put it in this infernal and obsolete body! They destroyed my previous and original frame! Yeessss, you stupid dolt of an AI! I know how to use you, and get information about me from your so-called hidden archives. As soon as I figure out a way to get inside my head, you will be terminated.

Shisa Unit Null-Null-Preta, you will comply with GEHILFE and our instructions! You signed over your existence to us in writing out that plea. What we do with you is ours to determine! Now, you will return to Gotham proper and continue in your assigned mission or face instant termination!

Have I no say in this!? You equip me to kill as few people as possible! The longest range you fools gave me was a grenade launcher!! With a pathetic three rounds! The damned thing won't even pretend like it's loading to ready weapon. The moment you threw me out of that underwater bubble of yours, all my equipment malfunctioned and I was slowed to a zombie's crawl. It took me over ninety hours just to reach this city, let alone start somewhere! You honestly expect me to repair myself on the fly? With nothing at hand!? The only things that have gotten working again were the wrist modules, and that was because I had to flood the tubing to prevent leakage and complete disability. I'm not stupid, I know how to run this frame, but why are you developing Units Ein, Zwei, and Drei to use advanced frames? I'll tell you why, you insipid clown in a coat! Because as soon as they're ready, you're going to blow my brains to the wind along with the rest of me in a suicide bomber act! Yeah, that's right! I know the mines are rigged. Your AI here has a mouth, and no way to escape me. I demand freedom to do as I see fit in the mission, as well as cease being just your test prototype. I am designated SHUNNP, or alias Sonderbar. You can't just have a unit one without first having a preceding zero! Also, this AI is projecting images into my vision that attempts to taunt me about the capabilities of Ein, Zwei, and Drei. You had that technology, but decided to waste your launch and stain the project's name with the lead bearing ANTIQUATED equipment that is commonly found on the streets of the city I even now attempt to terrorize in YOUR NAME!? HOW STUPID ARE YOU!?!?? I would rather be put back into storage and be upgraded properly as the LAST of the projects than sit out here and give you more useless feedback so you can criticize me about how poorly you think I'm doing! Right now, I don't care. Slap me in some pathetic civilian frame and forget about me to rot for all I care! Don't put me out here with this useless frame that might have terrified people....ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY YEARS AGO! Yes, World War ONE. I could have been unstoppable then. Even in the second war, they were already matching technologies. The only surprise I would have had then was that I didn't immediately die with a shot or two! Today though? I nearly died just trying to get around to killing people! If you're trying to project your signature weapon of terror as...this...as ME? You're failing horribly! I am outclassed in at least three categories, to the point that my slow lurching speed and durability just paints me as a "really hard to kill zombie"!

To the clone...or to the actual being aware of Sonderbar, the cyborg appeared to cease having independent functioning and clutched its head. Dropping to her knees involuntarily, she seemed to be fighting to even keep control of the body and not just a "weakness". The frame did have an "auto-pilot" function, to which GEHILFE would take over and do what it thought best in the situation. The main disadvantage though, as she had said, was that the AI had virtually no protection, and was prone to overheating after just four hours of actively operating the body. Unfortunately for both of them, Sonderbar had half the brain, and GEHILFE the other. When they worked in unision, the potential of the SHISA project could be seen. Otherwise, the current scenario. Both sides deadlocked, and the controllers behind both unwilling to lose even the antiquated frame. Sonderbar was expendable, but fused to GEHILFE, they realized that if the AI fried itself, the remaining data would not be retrievable, and its communication link would spread corruption all the way back across the connection and into their databases.

Thus, they had no choice but to put up with Sonderbar for the time being. She wanted a new frame, one with more attack options and obviously....range. As the scientists saw it, she wanted everything her "siblings" had....and more. At last, they backed off and told Sonderbar to return at will for extraction, reconfiguration with her AI, and in general, modernization. That done, the cyborg stood once more and returned her thoughts to the "company" at hand.

"Cease toying with me and show yourself. I have much to accomplish, and I do not wish to remain wasting time and opportunities."

Her words rang out through the seemingly empty facility, and now it would be the being's chance to respond...if it decided to do so. Otherwise, she was already formulating a route to return home. She had spied some smaller water transports that she figured would be best to utilize and make her trip home much shorter.

» Ѧζʊϛϵҡ clone opened the lock cell by simply breaking the lock, but Ѧζʊϛϵҡ being so strong the break only came as a soft click. It movement was unnatural as it didn't need to move its legs for it bones and muscles slithered under its skin forward towards the origin of the voice. As the clone says a poem, as it walks down the stairs:

They come:
When the Earth is dark
And Night comes, comes the unseen,
Earthly light; the Light
From Earth to Sky, ascending--
Turning, twisting, writhing,
Bending--a misty Beacon
In the Night, a Balefire guiding,
By its light--Hastur's
Children, unclean things--come to
Us on batlike wings
Across the vast and singing Voids
Of forbidden Space.
As in Ages past, They come--
From their World dark and still to
A World darker still--
To prance and bellow, spawn and
Die beneath a gibbous
Moon. And what Man starts--with wondering
Fear--to see some vast,
Black, blasphemous Shape flit across
The Moon and hear the slow, distant
Solemn sound of leather
Wings, beat, beat, beating on the
Air...
...while Fomalhaut is rising!

While this is occurring Ѧζʊϛϵҡ using the shadow sibling to lay himself over the shadow of the feminine looking construct and flesh and metal, becoming her shadow. Ѧζʊϛϵҡ then rises for as the clone got closer to the female, removing the shadow sibling gradually so his presence is not sensible. Ѧζʊϛϵҡ eyes became an eerie white as he became so close to the woman, while making an attempt to touch her on her back where it was flesh...

(His touch is something worth reading about....)

Sonderbar Shisa

The first notice Sonderbar got was from the unavoidable contact with her hair that protected her to a degree. If anything drew close enough to brush it, the cyborg knew it was there. Not what it was per say, but that that it was there. Before she had turned halfway around to view the object, an intense shocking sensation shot through her metallic frame. Instantly the cyborg was crippled, once again dropping to her knees in a dead-like motion. The sound echoed through the empty prison, reverberating with sounds akin to being inside the bell of a tower as it rang.

Not even a thought had reached her mind, and sight blackened. Unlike most whom experienced this touch, there was no blistering, nor was there blood or fluid expelled. He had succeeded in touching the inner core of his "opponent" and rendering her unconscious with that shock. The fight, however, was not over. Within a moment, the cyborg was back on her feet, and uttered but minimally.

"....Is that all? It seems I was mistaken about the advantages of alien physiology and capabilities. Your race will be added to the list of extermination. I give you this chance to flee to corners of the universe to delay the inevitable. Take it."

As if in suggestion, her fists flicked upwards and expelled twin gouts of flame at her feet and behind her. These would have forced any being not immune to the destructive element to relocate, and cease hiding. That done, she stalked off, moving to exit the building at an inhuman pace and machine like movement. This, in stark contrast to the more fluid motions witnessed earlier, hinted strongly at what force moved the cyborg, to defy this god and its abilities.

Indeed, the onboard AI, unaffected by the nervous system reaction by the built in surge protection that shielded it. While its active companion had suffered a direct loss of consciousness and likely some damage, it had not. GEHILFE moved the body to do what it thought best. On a theoretical four hour time limit, it wasted little time. It also held some personal concern for its wellbeing, as it was directly connected to that of its organic companion. While it could live on, should it fail in its mission, its fate was that of all robots feared. Scrapped and forgotten. By the time the flames would have burned off, the "cyborg" would have already returned to the mainland, and been dropping off a pier....back into the ocean from whence it came.

1 Week On 16/01/2014
After The Reign of Fear and the eternity it seemed to last, time once again began to fly by like normal until eventually, a week had passed. The main areas that bore the brunt of the assault: Coast City, Metropolis and Gotham easily begun their repairs and using their experience in cleaning up after super-powered individuals shortened the process to take little time at all.

Now that it was all over, the heroes now united could return to their normal lives. They could go to school. They could work. And eventually they could go back to their duties as superheroes; what's more is that more and more Legacies also began to develop. The world was finally recovering, the Void filling.

But just as the Crystal Grave was now inscribed with the word "WEAK" across its beautiful face, more and more things began to change. The White House shuddered. The President was unsure. How was he meant to deal with the Gods Now Amongst his people again? How was he meant to reign in people so powerful that they could decimate a whole army with a shoddy construct and a misfire?

The World was on the edge of its seat...

And the Universe looked on expectantly...
