The Prompt
It is a dark night in the forest and you can almost feel the danger in the air as evil spirits circle around you. You're not quite sure how you managed to end up lost out here, only that somehow you've become turned around and can't find your way back to the warmth of your fire and the safety of your home.
The trees block most light from the sliver of moon and you feel as if you could be invisible to the world. Your breath seems too loud in the eerie silence. Just as you begin to feel a loss of hope and crouch down to huddle against a tree in defeat of the oncoming night, a flash of color appears in the trees ahead and you blink quickly, trying to catch its form. The blur moves closer, as silent as a shadow. You slowly make out the creature's outline, slightly darker than the night surrounding it. A small thing, spotted brown and white. Similar to the barn cats at home, but unlike any barn cat you've ever seen.
Small wings sprout from its back and horns curve around its head then disappear into its full mane. The horns catch the little moonlight that has managed to trickle down through the trees and you guess this must be what you saw flash in the dark. The creature blinks at you then ruffles its wings and leaps into the air, startling you so that you fall back. However, it doesn't fly at your face in malevolence as you'd expected. It simply glides back to the ground, lands a few feet away, then walks back towards you and repeats the process.
You feel a nudging at the back of your mind. A sort of...urging. It is faint, but the telepathic nudge and the antics of the small winged thing spur you into action. It is obvious it wants you to follow it, but where it might lead you to is a mystery.

The Rules
Sprig is leading you on an adventure to find an abandoned totem! The totem is vulnerable to attacks from evil spirits without a Pixiu or human to care for it. Write the ending to this adventure which concludes with you finding and rescuing the totem! The most creative and well written response will win and get to keep the rescued totem.
