Seeing as how it was lunch time, Vern walked in to the Pika Pizza Parlor with his electric egg towed away in his messenger bag. Nala and Ryuichi were outside of their pokeballs to enjoy the peaceful air. Of course, Pichu and Pikachu were at the door to greet them. He smiled at the two cuties, crouching down to pat each of their heads. This place was a Phior-original restaurant, owned by a local Italian couple, and was definitely a place that Vern and Oliver had come to previously for dates.
A server took them (Vern and his Pokémon) to a seat. It didn't take long for Vern and his two Pokémon, Nala and Ryuichi, to get a couple plates of food for themselves and settle down with lunch. The tips he'd received from yesterday had been substantial enough to pay for today's special meal. Vern himself grabbed a pepperoni and sausage calzone, while Nala got herself something bitter (since that was her preferred flavor), Ryuichi didn't get anything since he didn't eat, and for Tova later Vern made sure to grab a container of hot sauce. Any good trainer knows what flavor their Pokémon likes! Of course, Nala was munching away at her food -and rightfully so, she was starving!-, and the young man was too happily enjoying his meal "Nala! Don't eat too quickly, or else you'll throw it all back up later!" He told her, trying to get her to eat just a little slower.
Devin yawned with a stretch as he walked in the door. He took his notebook with him, having promised to help out Hana over something to eat. "How many?"
"Huh? Oh. Three for the buffet. I'm waiting for two girls," He smiled. It was quiet during the transaction and passing of currency. And it was self seating, but time was taken to pet pichu and pikachu at the front. Even skitty snuggled against them! They sure were friendly...
Though, walking through, Devin saw a face stand out. "Hey, you're from my class, right? Class E? Vern, right?" He smiled, trying to ease into asking t sit with him. Skitty, on the other hand, skipped asking; it jumped onto Vern's lap, purring and rubbing against him until it found Nala and did the same to the vulpix. "Skitty..." Devin gave a half-hearted scolding. "Mind if we join you? Skitty seems to like you."
Vern looked up to find Devin walking in, his Skitty quick to make friends. "Oh well, hello there little one~!" He giggled, more than happy to pet the adorable little Skitty. "Yeah, I'm Vern. You're Devin, right? Devin McBeth? I think I've seen you around the Music Wing before! You're the one with the cello~" He purred a little at "cello" being quite fond of the way his classmate played the string instrument. "And yeah, you can join us! We don't bite~"
"Thank You," Devin said, polite and complete with a genuine smile. "Ya. I play the cello and the piano. That's actually how skitty found me," He explained as he sat down. "We left the window open during a weird heat wave in spring in our own music room, and skitty just kind of showed up on my piano while I was practicing. It kept showing up and one day it just stuck around," He smiled. As he set down his plate and note book, he handed skitty its share of the food (for round one). "If I remember right... You play the piano too. Not many people at the academy go to the music wing regularly, so I feel kind of lucky that someone who does is also in my same class."
Skitty went back and forth between eating and cleaning, and purring, and rubbing. It stretched and leaned against Vern, not a care in the world that it was probably in the way while it rubbed against him. "Do you ever get trouble with remembering things for class? To be honest, I don't even really know that much about skitty. My brother talked me into coming here, even though I don't know much about pokemon. But I usually take good notes, so I told Hana and Tera to meet me here to try and study together."
Vern giggled some more at the cute story. "Awww... That's adorable! Kinda makes me wish I had a cute story like that to tell about my Pokémon, but oh well~" He reached down to pet Skitty with one hand; eating with the other. "Class... Well, my mom's totally Asian so I'm kind of a straight-A student." Oh? Just kind of? How modest! "I always take great notes, and I'd be more than willing to help you learn more about your own Pokémon. I know it can be a huge change once you've finally got one for yourself. But you're lucky, your first Pokémon is a gentle little Skitty! Mine? Dragon! That was definitely exciting, raising a baby dragon from a newborn." Not to mention the three very noticeable scars that Valene gave him, imprinted quite clearly on his chest. Gaw! Dragons were dangerous, even the docile ones! Oh well, Vern wouldn't trade his little Valene the Fraxure for anybody or anything. That was was baby! "And, of course, if you and the girls want, I'd be happy to help you three study! Though, it'd have to be when I'm off work~ I like getting paid and all."
After all of Kenta's help, Hana did her best to thank him properly. When they parted ways, she finally remembered her appointment with Devin. She was still weary, given his brother's personality, but needed the help. That much she couldn't deny in either language. She cleaned up herself, getting lickitung's saliva off her skin and out of her hair. Then she changed into fresh cloths and simple brown sandals. She kept her eyes on her pokeball, as much as she could help without getting lost. It was strange to travel alone. But she managed well enough to make it! Entering in, she kept a worried look on the friend ball, only looking up at the sound of pichu and pikachu greeting her. Then it was a glance around until she spottedDevin, and... Vern? "Keliikoa chan!" She cheered, shuffling over. "So happy seeing you!" She said, clutching onto the friend ball.
Small rumblings of Flint’s stomach growing could be felt from the top of Tera’s head. With her egg case in hand and her study material in her bag, Tera had been walking around the town trying to find the meet-up location. "Haha! We’re almost there buddy. Or at least I think we are..." she said as she petted Flint to try to comfort him. Tera had made plans to meet up with Devin at a newly opened pizza place in town for a much needed study session. She remembered him saying that the restaurants mascots were hard to miss which made it easy to find. "Bingo!" She spotted a Pikachu and a Pichu at the front of the pizza restaurant greeting customers before they entered and figured that this was the place. Tera waved at the mouse Pokemon and petted them before entering the pizza place. Looking around the place to check if Devin was already here, she saw Devin sitting with a couple of people she recognized from class. "Yo Devin! I’m not too late am I?" She then turn to her other classmates. "I believe that you're Vern-senpai and Hana right? It's nice to meet you both!" she said with a light bow.
"I'd greatly appreciate it," Devin smiled at Vern's offer. "I never knew how amazing pokemon were until I came here and started to see what they can actually do. Skitty was always just a cat to me, so watching just using its attacks... It's sort of mystic." Her pet his pokemon, mewing cutely from Vern's side.
When Hana came at last, Devin had been accidentally (he hope by accident) ignored. She seemed really attached to Vern. So much that Devin himself just assumed they were a couple. After all, Hana seemed happiest around him, and he couldn't have known her pre-existing engagement or Vern's disinterest in women. He just smiled up at her, letting out a small yawn before he noticed her griping something. "What is that?" He asked before getting a better look. One of the pokeballs from that beginner's class! "Did you catch a new poke--" His thought were interrupted by his ecstatic pink-friend.
"Uh--hi Tera," He greeted. "Not late yet. I already paid for the buffet, so grab a plate and we can start whenever we're all ready. Actually, I kind of got worried that you might get lost on your way here, so I'm glad to see you here so soon!" He started to laugh, as much as a person half-asleep could laugh. "I have all my notes here from our shared classes, and from Pokemon Basics and Mythology class. Vern said he'd help out too on his days off if I treated him as well..." His tone trailed off as he realized he added in some part; something his brother would have negotiated in and he just said out of habit.
He laughed at the added portion to Devin's statement. "Dude! I never said that! My help is free of charge! Though, free food is nice, you don't have to." He was hugged by a Hana-Chan, and he turned to grin at her. "Hey there imouto-chan, I see you caught a Pokémon. What is it?" Vern motioned towards the Friend Ball that she clutched. A pink-haired girl that he vaguely recognized from class came in and greeted him.
"Uh yeah, I'm definitely Vern, unless there happens to be another one of me running around that I just don't know about~! And you're... Sorry, what was your name again?" He felt bad about not remembering his classmates name, especially since she'd been nice enough to remember his, but what could he do? Once she told him her name, he nodded. "Tera... Got it. Easy enough." Devin mentioned having notes from Mythology class."Oh~! I had Mythology last year. Ms. Ezra is really cool, though she can be really scary if you set her off..." He shuddered, remembering all those times that somebody had been stupid enough to get her mad... But even that didn't compare to the stories he'd heard about Mrs. Lyon. Just the two days he'd had with her, already put her as the scariest teacher Vern had ever had. However, he had no doubts about whether or not she actually knew what she was teaching, even if her methods were questionable.
Hana's smile faded slowly when her friends were curious about the pokeball in her hands. "I not know how to say--" She jumped, getting caught off guard by a charging, pink-haired girl. The name exchange and bow put her back into her habits. "Himeko no Hana," She bowed politely as well, forgetting that they sort of already had an introduction in one of their prior classes, and that her full name and bowing wasn't terribly needed. Then she went right back to giving her pokeball a worried look before Devin mentioned she could get something to eat. That sounded really good about now, so she left her note book and pokeballs with her friend and headed to get a much needed lunch. Or dinner. Either way!
Having never been to a buffet, it was... an adventure--to say the least. She was so used to the traditional foods back home, her family rarely venturing different quizine, that the line up of food was a strange alien sight. She stuck close to whoever she knew (Tera) and picked up small samples of everything to try. But... there was another problem: no chopsticks. When she returned to her friends and the things she left with them. "Togepi hun-gory too," She mumbled as she let out her spikeball pokemon. "Eat togepi," She motioned at her plate. At first, the little pokemon seemed please at the sight, but was soon distracted by Vern's porygon--too much to be bothered by eating. Then her focus went back onto the friend ball. "Not mean to have pokemon... Not know what do..." She said quietly, giving that same worried look before glancing back at Vern for his input. Maybe just this once she could explain the story in Japanese. After all, the study session was going to be in English. In her soft tone, she quickly retold the story to Vern about how she ended up with a slobber monster (and still didn't know how to call it by name). "Keliikoa kun... what I do with pokemon?"
Vern listened carefully to Hana's quiet voice, which also happened to have that particular Hokkaido accent. Oh great! No matter what language they were conversing in, there was an accent barrier! Fantastic. Fortunately, Vern had a lot of family from Hokkaido, so that was helpful enough. She told him a story about how the Lickitung from earlier had come back and eaten up Hana and Togepi's lunch. Angry, and rightfully so, Togepi beat the Tongue Pokémon to a pulp, and it somehow ended catching itself inside of poor Hana's Friend Ball. "Well... That's... Wow. Now that's a story." He said, after she'd finished telling him her story in Japanese. She asked him what to do about the Pokémon. "What do you do with it? Well, first of all the Pokémon's name is "Lickitung", but in japan they're called "Beroringa", so you might be more familiar with that name. As for what to do with it... You could release it back out into the wild, but from what you've told me, Lickitung there is already very fond of you. So releasing it would break its poor heart! Try sending it out of its Pokeball and get to know it. Lickitung isn't a bad Pokémon, just needs a loving trainer. Maybe save it some food to give to it later. Become friends~!" Honestly, that was the best advice that Vern could give. He himself was not a fan of releasing a Pokémon unless they absolutely wanted it, or it was for the better. Hana's case was most likely going to be none of the above, especially since the Lickitung got caught in a Friend Ball. Hungrily, Vern took another huge bite from out of his calzone.
Next to them, the infamous Togepi was checking out Ryuichi. Curious as to what the little spikeball was, the Porygon floated down to Togepi's level. "Pooooorrrryyyy~?" He bleeped and made other unnatural sounds, talking to the baby.
"Let out...?" Hana repeated, trying to translate and understand what it was that her friend was explaining. She looked down at the friend ball again, unsure of what to do; but Vern did know more about pokemon, so perhaps he knew something more about the lickitung. Togepi, on the other hand, couldn't have been any more care free as it followed around Vern's porygon. It reached up, singing happily as it wondered about--probably thinking of porygon to be a toy rather than a living thing. "Beroringa," Hana trusted her friend's advice, letting out the pokemon. Though, she probably couldn't have inferred that he meant that she should do it back on school grounds.
Liiikyyyy! The gluttony pokemon stretched out, opening its mouth wide. "No! Not liik me!" She scolded, as tough sounding as her tiny voice could get; and with as stern of a look as she could make. It was laughably pathetic... But the pink trouble maker stopped. Hana remained slobber free. Lllllliiiik... It sighed, then noticed the abundance of food. Tung! It swiped off the plates on the table, and hurried to make its way to the buffet line and gorged itself Llliky llliky lllliiiiky! Tung! Tung! Tung! Hana's face went pale. "No Bero! Bad pokemon! No eat all food!" Her scolding calls went unanswered. That was, until it actually happened: The buffet was almost cleaned out, then it gave a sad look and fell back.
A trainer chuckled as she came up to the pokemon waiting for its trainer to catch up. "Guess this is your first time with a big eater, isn't it?" Hana's face went pink, only half able to decipher what was said. "Pokemon that eat a lot tend to do better if they snack all day, rather than have set meal times. Other wise they end up eating too much at once and getting stomach aches, so they spend a lot of time trying to sleep it off."
"I... Not know... Not have pokemon before..." Hana said, barely audible.
"No need to punish yourself. It actually happens a lot. Just give lickitung more snacks in the day and you'll notice a change: It'll be more willing to listen to the person who's always feeding it, and because it's always digesting it won't be so hungry all the time. I learned that the hard way with my swallot." The girl was nice, but... all that food... Gone.
Devin blinked as he watched a tiny drama scene unfold. "I guess not all pokemon are well behaved. Like kids. We just kind of lucked out so far, then," he concluded with a half asleep smile. When things quieted for the moment, he took the chance to get right down to where he needed to be. "Actually, I don't know a thing, and I hear miss Lyon is pretty tough. So maybe we could start with the lesson from her class--about the type advantage stuff--" Things were quickly interrupted with Hana's pink pokemon making the next scene. It was kind of cute, but quickly became scary with the way it devoured everything.
"Well... I did pay for the buffet," He said, still in horror and shock but trying to ease some tension. "Lickitung really takes advantage of all you can eat." He didn't really move. What the heck was he supposed to do? He could comfort his friend, but he was doubtful of even that!
It was when a kind stranger, a cute and sweet girl, came up and gave Hana advice that he took note--literally! The trouble with that advice now was: what qualified as a big eater pokemon? Lickitung was clearly one. And the girl mentioned hers... He'd have to look it up later.
Devin said that Vern was willing to help them study for food. He was then corrected by the upperclassman saying that he'd do it for free. "Sweeeet! Thanks senpai! I have my notes from my classes too. Let’s gets a studyin’ after I grab me some grub. Be right back!" she said as she gleefully skipped to the end of the line of the buffet. Just like her ant Pokemon, Tera was pretty hungry herself. There were plenty of types of pizza to choose causing Tera a dilemma. She just couldn’t choose which ones she wanted to sample first. After filling two plates to the brim and even carrying a few in her mouth, Tera made her way back to the table. Not exactly the most lady-like thing to do, but Tera didn’t care much for appearances. She then passed the hungry Flint some random spicy food from the plate for him to eat.
When she came back, Hana released a pink Pokemon with a long tongue that she'd never seen before from the ball she was clutching. Tera watched as all the food she carefully selected along with the rest of the food on the table was swiftly eaten by Hana’s hungry pink ally. "Dude! My pizzas!" she said with her mouth still stuffed with the calzone she picked a few second ago. Devin then said that Lickitung really took advantage of all you can eat causing Tera to chuckle. "Haha! Man, it beat me too it too!" She was slightly disappointed that she didn’t get to try each one of the pizza, but at least the food was eaten by someone who seemed to really enjoy it. Luckily for her Flint was already full, so there wouldn't be any complaints from him. After swallowing the food she had in her mouth she approached Hana's newest addition to her team. "Haha! That’s quite an appetite you got there! First time anyone out ate me!" A passer-by trainer in the restaurant gave Hana some tips on how to feed her Lickitung. Tera looked to her now sated partner and was thankful that he wasn't the gluttonous type.
