Nothing You Do Is In Secret
How many times have we, whether it was as a Christian or before we were even saved (maybe even in both situations), thought, "Oh, I can do (activity here) and no one will ever know?" I bet most of us have in our lifetime. I remember at times being guilty of this and thinking, "I could just lie about it...they don't have to know about it..." and of course I would think I was being smart and not hurting anybody, but this was not the case. When I had thought I was doing something in secret, I was always wrong because God is always watching.
God see's everything we do, he is everywhere at once, or omniscient (all seeing and all knowing) as some would put it. How can we say, "I can do this and they'll never know?" when God knows? It is foolish to think we can hide something when God, whom we strive or serve, can see what it is that we are doing and know the intentions in our heart.
How do we know this? God has mentioned so in His word:
Hebrews 4:12 - 13 NIV:
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Even Adam and Eve had tried to physically hide from God because they were ashamed. They tried, but they still could not hide from God in their fear of Him:
Genesis 3:6 - 11 NIV:
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
He see's everything we do, he knows our motives, he knows what we're thinking, and I'm more than sure that God knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows our heart, our mind, and our soul.
When we sin in secret, not letting anyone know and hiding it. We may be deceiving other people, but we are not deceiving the one who will judge our soul - God.
If we have a sin, we should either tell ourselves, "I need to stop." and ask the God for the strength and the forgiveness to rid of that secret sin! It can also be a good idea to confide in another believer to confess your sin to your brother or sister in Christ so that they can pray for you as well and offer you encouragement and that paired with God's strength, forgiveness, and prayer can help tremendously! We can do all things through God! Secret sin is part f this topic, but it's still a whole different ball game.
We need to always remember as Christians when we take action towards any situation, "God is watching." And we need to think whenever we do something, "Is what I am doing pleasing to God? What would God say if he spoke to me face, what would He tell me right now?" We must be aware that nothing we do is in secret to God.
