This Bible study may be shorter, but I hope that I can share some wisdom. I once again apologize due to my busy schedule. I figured I'd go ahead and squeeze in another church meeting topic before I have to get some other stuff done tonight.

So, this church meeting is about making fun of others.

Now, you know...have we all made fun of someone in our life? Chances are probably extremely likely. Whether we called someone a name like stupid, jerk, etc. or called someone four eyes, a square/loser, etc. making fun of others can also be classified as "mocking", can it not? It's incredibly disrespectful. We've probably also been made fun of, too, right? It doesn't feel good so why should we do it to others? There isn't a reason for it. It's unkindness. For all of us here on the internet - trolling can most definitely fall under this category because it's making fun of somebody, or saying a mean comment to make someone else feel horrible. Trolls are often looking for an argument to fuel their flame. These are things a Christian should NOT do.

There are actually some Bible verses out there that should definitely warn us about making fun of other people, most of these examples are making fun of someone who believes in God, but it should not be done. Here are some examples to think about:

What the Bible Says About Making Fun of Others

2 Kings 2:23 - 24 NIV:

From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some boys came out of the town and jeered at him. “Get out of here, baldy!” they said. “Get out of here, baldy!” He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys.

Numbers 12: 1 - 10 NIV:

Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite. “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses?” they asked. “Hasn’t he also spoken through us?” And the Lord heard this.

(Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.)

At once the Lord said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, “Come out to the tent of meeting, all three of you.” So the three of them went out. Then the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud; he stood at the entrance to the tent and summoned Aaron and Miriam. When the two of them stepped forward, he said, “Listen to my words:

“When there is a prophet among you,
I, the Lord, reveal myself to them in visions,
I speak to them in dreams.
But this is not true of my servant Moses;
he is faithful in all my house.
With him I speak face to face,
clearly and not in riddles;
he sees the form of the Lord.
Why then were you not afraid
to speak against my servant Moses?”

The anger of the Lord burned against them, and he left them.

When the cloud lifted from above the tent, Miriam’s skin was leprous—it became as white as snow.

I apologize that this church meeting is not longer - I haven't had a whole lot of time. I do realize that this topic is early since I have found a few minutes that I am able to spare.

It'd be awesome to see other people's input whether it's Bible verses, things that are on their mind, etc. since this topic is short yet there is so much to it!

That verse concerning Moses really sums it up. And it's interesting that you post this, my brother started Kindergarten this week, and he had started to have a hard time in school. People would make fun of him, and he'd be very down. It broke my heart to see my normally energetic and annoying brother so deflated. But, then it came to my attention that it's not just him being bullied, that HE was the one picking on others too, so when the other children got tired of it and started firing back, he couldn't take it.

I think a companion to this verse should be Proverbs 18:24a which reads
"A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly". Making fun of others is not very friendly, of course smile

Thanks for posting that. It goes well with this topic on what we should do, which is important 3nodding

I find this topic interesting, because I don't believe I've heard many sermons on making fun of others specifically so it's an interesting topic and has a lot to it.
