in jr. high i used to play the baritone in the school band and while the baritone is most definetly NOT the trumpet the basics of how to work a mouth piece were pretty similar.(this is me assuming you know nothing about how to work a brass instrument so bear with me if you do already know) the way i learned to correctly use a mouth piece is to hum the letter "M" and to hold your lips in that formation. make sure your lips are wet because it will just be that much harder to do. once you have done both of those things just blow air out of your lips. this will be hard and look a little silly at first but once you put your lips to the mouth piece it wont be AS silly
now that THAT is out of the way another thing to remember is pitch. you mostly control the pitch with your lips. ( i might not be using the word pitch correctly so bear with me lol) if you blow into the trumpet and your lips is loose then the pitch will be low. the same is with the opposite, if your lips are tight (and yes i know it sounds a tad dirty) then the pitch will be high. i suggest before trying to play any songs or notes try practicing on making a smooth sound and then go from low pitches to high pitches in the Do Mi So Do pattern,
that is all i know i hope you have fun!! Ps. watch out for the spit valve that thing can get nasty -_-
