..♠..

This challenge borrows its name from a writing prompt tumblr that I happen to really like, as well as the one which is the over-arching theme for these challenges, though of course I'm adding my own little twists (otherwise it's not necessarily a challenge, is it?)! You may enter as many times as you like, by the way.

    THE EXPECTATIONS:
Select a prompt from here. Then, write a poem (this can be any type (sonnet, haiku, freeverse, blank verse, heroic couplet, etc; basically it can be as short or as long as you'd like but try not to over or under-do it) or story (no minimum or maximum word count) about that prompt, keeping in mind the twist I provide for you!

THE TWIST OF THE WEEK 8/14-8/24:
Whichever prompt you choose, take it in an unexpected direction. If the prompt calls for something sillier, go serious, and vice-versa. Perhaps the main character isn't what they seem to be, or perhaps the strange in the setting you choose is actually very, very ordinary. Is the narrator unreliable? Lie to the reader and make them draw false conclusions or with-hold information until a certain point. However you believe is the best way to derail the writing into uncharted territory, do it! Treat this as an exercise in creating a bit of suspense.

    THE BONUS:
Use any of the following words (or any of their forms) in the piece.

        Wanderlust
        Choleric
        Coalesce
        Audacity
        Rapturous

There's no prize for doing so, but words and expanding your vocabulary are an awful lot of fun in my experience. Making them stand out in some way would be perfect.

While the "expectations" will stay the same, the true challenge lies in the "twist". The day after the deadline, I'll update the "twist". If you wouldn't mind, if you're accepting this challenge of sorts, placing your pieces under spoilers would be fantastic! Don't be afraid to ask any questions if you're confused, though, of course.

I hope I did this challenge thing right. >u< This idea has been floating around for a while but I could never make it into a contest.

So, we can do any kind of twist, or what's the "theme" of the twist?

The sort of twist you pull in this case is completely up to you since the task is only to take the story or poem in an unexpected direction. UuU With later tasks it'll be different though I wanted to leave some freedom for this very first one.

Er, that probably isn't very clear -- for example, say I start writing about a young girl who goes about her daily life like normal until she goes to a lake at night, at which point it's revealed that the girl has been dead for three years or something like that.

    I'm sorry that's about the best i can explain it. UuU I don't really care how it's executed, exactly, as long as you yourself feel like you followed the given "Twist"! The point is sort of to challenge yourself, not for me to judge you, so yeah. :3;

TWIST FOR THE WEEK OF 8/25-8/31
In the story or poem you write from a prompt, write it from a perspective that you don't usually write from. Perhaps your lead is actually a man who goes on all sorts of adventures and you write from the perspective of his meeker travelling companion. Perhaps you try writing in first person (if you usually write in third) or third person (if you usually write in first). Perhaps you're feeling brave and want to try second person on for size. Perhaps there's an argument or debate involved and you want to showcase another side of the story rather than the one being presented. Get creative and have fun with it.
