Just what is family?
Greetings again in the precious name of the Lord!
Many people believe, and rightfully so, that a person's family is more important than anything else in this world.
Think about it?
Your family members, no matter how flawed, are your flesh and blood, and are deserving of your love and compassion.
The same is true of your church family.
If the personal family is all about flesh and blood, love and compassion, then so is the church family.
Family members, adopted into the family of God, all have the same flesh and blood, and Holy Spirit that link each member to the other, under the guiding hand of a loving and perfect God.
The psalmist and King, David, had these words about the love of family and the unity under God's guiding hand.
Psalm 133:1 (K.J.V.)<< A Song of degrees of David.>> 'Behold, how good and how pleasent it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!'
Let's face it, a family can't have unity unless there is a common bond of love and respect.
Listen to what Solomon wrote in one of his proverbs.
Proverbs 15:17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred within.
There is, or should be, a sense of loyalty in a family. this is exspecially true in the family of God.
King Solomon had some thoughts about family loyalty.
Proverbs 27:8 As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.
Simply put, people should never turn away from family whether it is personal or church.
Anything other than loyalty to God and family is disobedient to God and is disrespectful to family.
We don't necessarily worship family, but WE SHOULD HONOR FAMILY.
In fact, one of the commandments tells every child to HONOR THY FATHER AND MOTHER that the child's days may be long.
It is called a commandment with promise and it holds true for personal family but more so with the family of God.
The object of church love is always God, the Creator of the universe and the giver of life to each of us.
We should count it an honor and a priviledge to worship the head of the church family.
Part of our service is such.
Let's look at Joshua 24:15. 'And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.'
When we serve God, we can do so with the entire church family, or in groups of two or three.
The object of service is to minister to others as God lays it upon our hearts to do so.
When we listen to God's Holy Spirit, we have a partner who ministers with us.
Matthew penned this message from Jesus.
Mt. 18:20 'For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.'
There's a family reunion going on serval times a week at your house of worship.
Be sure to fellowship, worship and serve with your adoptive family of God each and every time the doors are open.
