            YOU ALL HAVE AN ASSIGNMENT!

While I am finishing the test threads for this weekend, I would like each of you to come up with one or more "mini" plots that revolve around your character. They can be thought of as mini or side quests, or as a subplot.

These will help to flesh our room and have it feeling much more balances as well as give us something to do when there is only a few of us online. For example, if Hikari and I are online then we can begin a subplot about Tinkerbell losing her pixie dust and the guests must help us find it or think of a way for Tinkerbell to make more. The more opportunities for guest interaction that we have in the room the more fun that everyone will have.

These subplots do not need to be complicated at all and you can come up with as many as you like. We may not get to explore all of them depending on what is happening with the pace of our room, but the more we have to choose from the better.

Your subplot can involve other characters too if you have a good idea. Say, for example, a subplot for Dracula would involve him becoming somewhat enamored of Catherine as she 'so resembles a bride he once had'. Then the guests can try to help him woo her! If you are involving someone else then you can check with them how they like it after you suggest it here. There is no need to coordinate a time for these subplots, just begin them whenever you see the opportunity. Use the chatango chatroom or PMs during the event to initiate them with whoever is also online.

It will also be much more helpful to have them figured out before hand rather than beginning them randomly during the event because everyone will be aware with what is happening and will not be confused. The more confused we as the hosts are the more confused our guests are going to be and that is when we run into trouble in the rooms.

I am going to ask that if you do not list a subplot here for everyone to read and to be ready for that you do not try to start one during the event. It will catch your fellow co-hosts off guard and might disrupt the plot that is already happening.

            Dorian & co subplots:

At some point Dorian will become so bored that he will want absolutely nothing to do with anyone other than reclining in a seat and drinking wine (that he also finds boring.)
Guests and hosts will need to rustle him out of his funk by enticing him with various offers such as games, dancing, food, etc.
The right suggestion to spark the right part of his personality will succeed.

            more to come...

I know I want to do the sword duel with my character and Dorian, either take a page from the Highlander duel, were he kept losing but turned around to face again and again because he was drunk and couldn't hold his sword, or we can just stick to the normal. "hah I got you!" "Yes so you did...and?" more stabbing and fighting until Dar' is to tired to keep going lol.

If we keep it nice and within the restrictions maybe some kind of drinking game. Wagering some task or skill based beat and having to drink if you lose. We could even turn it in to a really small in RP game. were you simply roll a even number sided dice, and make it a 50/50 style event. No real prize accept your character having bragging rights and not being inebriated lol.

I actually can't picture Dorian as a fencer... maybe I'm missing something from the story. I know in that period deuling was more pistols than fencing.

Maybe D'art will challenge Dorian to a duel and Dorian will be all disinterested and then, "fiiiiiine, if you insist...." *pulls pistol and shoots D'art*

            razz

it would be funny, but I don't know if it'd be as fun for you. Let's see how the room is. If it's kind of busy let's go with a shorter duel, maybe even my version ( xD ) and if it's really really dead we can go with a bit of a lengthier.

Remember the replies will need to be quick though so if we have time we should write them before hand and then post them during the ball with any minor edits we need according to whoever is involved as far as guests go.

Since we all know that guests just love hanging out in the main room far more than any of the others, I would like Dracula's subplot to be something that will encourage guests to venture out and check out all other rooms. Because really, Dracula is always recruiting humans in one way or another either to become the vampires or do his bidding.

#1 -- He wants to learn the wear about of Mina and his enemies. Sadly Mina isn't around, but he won't immediately know that as he's not going room-to-room looking for her. Once guests start reporting back that they cannot find Mina anywhere but that murdering b*****d [Van Helsing] is lurking about elsewhere, Dracula will then start recruiting guests to go over there and try to thwart whatever he's up to. [If I get Robayn's okay on this, I'll PM Malomy to let her know what I'm up to and so that she can likewise recruit guests to come over to our room to thwart Dracula.]

#2 -- Dracula will recruit guests into vampires. It might be funny to have a vampire brides beauty pageant, but there would be timing issues with actually running it due to my work hours... plus Dracula wouldn't actually do the dirty work of hosting a beauty pageant himself as that's peasant work.

Both of those ideas are just superb <3

I don't know if I'd be up for a beauty pageant but that sounds like something a drunken Aramis might do?

I know we are basing this on the books but you know most people know Dorian Gray from the "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" movie. In it he carries a cane with a sword in it, and only uses it as his means of a weapon because he can get right up to someone, stab them, look them in the eye as he heals and their life drains from their face.

Also the latest 3 Musketeer movie has a scene just like the one you speak of Robayn. D'art challenges the main villain to a duel at the beginning of the movie, he turns and readies his sword, and the guy shots him. He only gets his arm because his gun was dirty, and he blames it on the lackey he has that tends to his guns, then stabs the guy for not doing a good job.

Great idea! Aramis [while drunk] can be all hey, Dracula's not about at the moment and he's recruited all these brides. Let's have a vampire brides beauty pageant. [I don't think Dorian would host it either.] It would also give drunk Aramis something "productive" to do while Dorian is in sulking, leave me alone while I'm sitting in my chair over here.

I'm trying to think of ideas that don't end up with Catherine just being awful to guests.

Well since she grew up as pretty much the prettiest and most loved girl in her area, maybe she could get jealous if someone gets more attention then her? Since I should probably not slap any one, and getting upset and locking myself in my room until I get sick are also bad options, I need to think of what I could do. I guess if there is the vamp bride contest, I could complain that I could easily win if I entered, but refuse to join in because I already have too many possible husbands as it is.

Maybe when she is in a rare good mood for some reason, she suggests a dinner party or maybe a dance (old style dancing, in long lines dancing in sets, hardly any touching). Something would go wrong, she would throw a tantrum and go back to her regular mood.

I was trying to think of something with drinking, since she would dislike it after her brother basically killed himself with it. Also perhaps Heathcliff and Edgar becoming forbidden words for anyone to say, or they might incur her wrath?

I thought it would be funny to be Catherine since she is such a drama queen, but now I'm worried about her ability to play well with others. I'll keep trying to think of better ideas, I just wanted to put down something just in case.

At some point, I want Beast to get annoyed with the other characters so much he can't stand being anywhere near them. They try to recruit him to help them with stuff, and he instead ruins the plan or surprise on purpose, eventually trying to lock them behind the bar but fails. this pisses him off so he goes onto a rampage pretty much destroying anything in sight

Should have ended it with "we are basing this on the books" because the movies in many cases are very, very different from what our characters are meant to be. It was established at the beginning of the ball that we'd be playing the book variation of characters, not movie variations. Even if guests are more familiar with a movie version of a character we are still expected to fit our theme of the ball which is classic literature, so guests will just get to meet a new version of the character if it's not the one they are expecting.

Yes yes yes yes! This is what I was thinking too!
Maybe Catherine AND Tinkerbell could both get jealous of the brides (because Tink always rocks the jealousty) and then together Catherine and Tink could scheme to ruin the pageant with pixie trickery?

These sound like good ideas too! Sometimes it is hard to get guests to pay attention to direction so I'd recommend trying the dance during a down time when we have a few guests but not too much going on in terms of plot.

Don't get discouraged! Sometimes the funnest characters are the ones who are a little more difficult to use for interaction. They can be great schemers or mischief makers, especially if it's their temper that's driving them. Also, I think it would be okay to be a little cranky or sassy to guests ;D
We can write it into her bio that the character is like that, but guests shouldn't take offence because we all still love them.
