"Those children..." Villon sighed, laying out on the grass of the cemetery. "It's no coincidence that all those children ended up here with legendary pokemon," Again, he went in circles around his point. That was just his style. Going directly for the kill was... not as elegant. "When a pokemon like that bonds its heart to a human, legends say they can be called upon from anywhere in the world--that pokemon will come. Regardless of if she knows it, that girls and her little friends are a problem in my plan. It's more obvious now that I can't possibly hope to change the world today. Or tomorrow. But maybe... Yesterday." He handed off an envelope to his hound. "Read this," He commanded. "Somewhere in this region is a doorway to all we hope to accomplish--and the keys to go with it. It's no coincidence about these teacher or the children... The princes' lines are still alive. And we've all come to one spot. How quaint. Don't you think?"

Felix stood by his lord, his king, obeying whatever command he was given. When he mentioned the kids at the academy, Felix raised a brow. "Yes, I remember. It was all over the news when team rocket fell. I am sorry, my prince, that I was not here to assist in the matter on your part." He patronizing would have to wait. His king was speaking. But the more he made a child to look like some threat, Felix began to get weary of what action his king might take. He didn't sign on to murder children--much less young girls!

Read this. Felix obeyed, taking the paper note and scrolling through the passage written. "My lord, I am sure that no one suspects a thing. These are just myths, sire, about deities and emperors." He refolded the slip, holding onto it until he was instructed otherwise. "Dialga controls all of time. Celebi might travel through it, but it is doubtful that that pokemon is our key. Going back in time would not accomplish much, chasing stories. Forgive me if I speak out of turn, my prince, but I fail to see why this is relevant." He looked down onto his master. "What was speaking to those kids going to accomplish?"

"Tsk tsk! Felix, bad boy," Villon teased. "Has your king ever led you astray? I think not. There is more to time than pokemon. Trust me, and you will see--and reap the benefits for loyal service." He got himself up, giving a quick brush across his clothing, and stretched. "And the entire point of it was, my friend, to see which side they stand on. They might have been useful to us, if they could call on those pokemon. But if they stand in my way... I'll simply have to go around them. Fear is such a poor way of gaining power. Plowing through will do nothing but give them a marter to follow." He motioned for his dog to follow, making his way by the graves. "Even if no one believes in something, that doesn't make it any less real. They don't believe in love, or hope, or magic, or whatever else. Fickle minds. Such, will never see past their noses and into the grand design. Come along dog!"

Let's ask a question: If you knew you did something wrong - even horrible - and you find yourself facing the people who are most affected by your decisions, what would you say or do? Would you even believe yourself capable of redeeming yourself? Would you try to keep some degree of honor and face the consequences? Or would you try to run from it all so they never have to worry about you again? Even if you run and even if they forgive you, do you think your own conscience would leave you alone? How long would you last against such madness that you had brought upon yourself?

This was the problem Taku faced now. He stood here, standing before the mass of graves in the area made for those who fell to Team Rocket. Despite Taku's best efforts to minimize fatalities, many students still died, either from the initial attack on Valentine's Day, neglect in their imprisonment, starvation in said imprisonment, or attempting to fight back when the students returned and defeated Gianna. He could read a few of the names before him as he barely stood out of the way of the area's entrance, just inside of it. He could recognize the names as students he had to drag back into the campus while they still wore their formal wear, screaming, kicking and fighting or just passed out or injured.

Fliskile and Altair watched him from just beside the area's gates. Taku wanted to go in alone to see just how much had really been done. Hell, if you were in his position, having entered just after the parents of one child left in tears, would you want to try to deal with it with other people attempting to make you feel better? Taku didn't think it would help, even from his two best friends. He had tried to take these kids in alive and still failed on that! He didn't have the mindset anymore to really be accepting of help because he was overwhelmed with this guilt.

He stood there quietly, staring on into this section of the cemetery. His thoughts were that of trying to think of an apology towards those who are now gone. Is there anything I can say? Fliskile and Altair couldn't bring themselves to look into his thoughts to see what he was thinking. They knew he was trying to get past this on his own. But they also knew it wasn't easy. Even in watching him aid his younger brother in his first real pokemon catch, they saw he was struggling with it. But now they wondered: how long could he keep this up before he would go mad?

After class, Annie came across the lake to the cemetery. She knew waiting for Tony, he would only convince her not to go. He wanted to protect her from sadness, among other things that would cause remorse. But she felt an obligation to come; and to pay her respects to the dead. She stopped along the way, picking up carnations to place at their graves. The first that she visited was Delphina, her mother. How long had that been now? Seven years? Eight? No matter; she said her prayers and placed the flowers on her mother's grave. She idled there a while, having a quiet chat with the grave. But time was of the essence, and it wouldn't be long before Tony finished up his classes and figured out where she had gone.

Shikaku's grave, and Caim's grave, were on a different part of the yard. It was relatively quiet among the tombs; few people came. But it was a more familiar figure up ahead that grabbed her attention: Taku. She put on a smile, "Visiting someone?" She said pleasantly. A few more steps, and she stopped short to stand in front of the tombs of her would have been fiance, and would have been grandfather in law. She laid down the bouquet quietly, making a quiet prayer to each without being distracted.

The silent cries of the several people who came and the silence of their footsteps as they saw the graves of their people was barely heard over the light breeze coming in. All the while, Taku kept looking at the mass of graves, particularly of those belonging to the students buried here from the Team Rocket attack. He still tried thinking of something to say. But no matter what he thought of, he felt it wasn't going to be enough to make the souls of the children rest easy. He still remembered the words of Lavender that the people didn't hate or distrust him. Why did he feel otherwise? Especially from these dead people? The sight of the old man's grave wasn't anymore than a simple head turn of a few degrees, either. As he looked on, he heard the voice of the same woman willing to let him stay on the campus rooftop despite what he had done and helped to do.

He turned to see Annie, standing there and looking over at a few graves. He didn't recognize the names so he was sure it was people he personally knew. It was her question that seemed interesting to Taku. Visiting? I guess. Maybe more like... Thinking... Hoping... Begging... Fliskile and Altair remained silent, letting Taku say what he needed to. He remained silent for a moment, his mind finally taken off of trying to think of something to say to the people recently buried here. But that's when he thought of something he needed to ask Annie. Miss Phoenix... Annie... Can I ask you something? Something is bothering me and has been since the raid, and I'm hoping you could help me with it...

He didn't have a task for her, he didn't have a topic of debate. He was seeking her help. But again, a voice came to him that only he heard. She won't give you a straight answer, Taku... And you know it... He ignored it. He had been hearing it for a few days now, but it wasn't very often. It usually only happened when he was thinking about something involving other people who had a part in the attacks, or even talking to any said person. Annie, being the one person Gianna guarded the most, was probably the one person that the voice would talk to him around. But Taku still had no face for it. So was it in his own head? Or was there someone there? He watched Annie out of the corner of his eye, seeing if she turned to look for the voice. Unfortunately for Taku, she would never hear the voice as it really was within his own mind...

"You want to know why I'm letting you stay," Annie said, not even looking up. "Or wondering if everyone really forgives you." There it was: pain. "Tony was the one who said you helped to rescue me... And everyone just ran with it. But... I... I can't forgive you." Her voice began to break, and her eyes began to water. "Every time I see you--in my academy... In my home! I have to force on a smile..." Her gentle hands went into fists. "Because the truth is... I hate you." A wind blew by, as if on cue.

"You were one of them. You killed children, an old man, men and women. All of you... People I knew and loved..." She began to cry. Then in a sudden burst of anger, she looked at him, alone with him, and her eyes reflected that hate. "Some naive people might call you a hero, but you're not! You're a demon! Worse than any monster in the world!" Her fists tightened. "The only reason I let you stay... It's to keep up appearances--for the sake of my reputation and my family's legacy. But really... I wanted you to die that night. With the rest of team rocket, I just wanted you to disappear...!" She stopped a moment in her rage, needing to clean her face from the salt of her tears. "How dare you come to these graves..."

The voice was right about her, at least... He listened to her entire outcry. The cemetery was mostly empty so only a couple of people heard it but he cared now. He only continued looking out over the graves. Every last thing she said, it sounded familiar to him. Monster... Murderer... Destroyer... Whatever label you give me might apply to me... He never turned his head. Rather, he just kept his same expressionless face he had since he first got here. She thated him and he didn't blame her. Hell, he'd been waiting for her to just come out and say it. And he didn't want to seem an a** to her, no matter what she said or did. All he could do for now was continue. But that wasn't my question... To be honest with you, You've only told me everything I've told myself over the past several months. When I'm at my tent on the roof, I'm often training myself on the thoughts of my mistakes, sleeping with constant nightmares getting perpetually worse. And I know I had brought it all on myself by taking Virgil's offer to join Team Rocket...

He didn't move a muscle beyond a few in his legs to keep himself on his feet. He didn't feel it necessary as he still needed to voice his question. Miss Phoenix... I'm sure you've done your share of mischievous things and even things you regret, even if not on the level I'm at... But I still want to ask... When you feel the guilt of it... What do you do to deal with it? How do you come to terms with what you've done? He took a deep breath to let his heartbeat slow down a bit and to keep himself from getting too loud or overemotional. I know I'm a monster. I know I'm a murderer and a destroyer. I know what I've done. The people I've killed, hurt and ruined by my actions. I can still see it all. Facing Fantina and Drayden after taking their gym challenges several years ago... Fantina's resistance blowing me out of the top floors of a building into another across the roads... Going to Mossdeep and planting the bombs that set the city ablaze with a giant "R" before Gianna flooded it... I can still see the order I received to kill Shikaku...

I'm a Yamamoto... For thousands of years; since the Jewel of Life, we've been guardians of humanity and their pokemon partners. I'm the first born of the current Yamamoto family... I'm expected to do my duty. I'm expected to protect the people and I set it aside to keep myself and my pokemon alive through Team Rocket's resources... As I received more orders, I slowly became more aware of what I was really doing. After Mossdeep and Opelucid, I was sure I had lost myself. After fulfilling my orders with Shikaku, I finally knew that I had completely lost myself... The most I could do for him was give him a final request... And he asked me to try and keep you from harm...
Fliskile and Altair closed their eyes, remembering the day they had to aid Taku, masked and sword drawn as they blocked off the exits after using Torch as bait. Taku was going into a state of solipsism again, feeling the cold air nipping at him that night and the rain beginning to fall, the strikes and parries made in fighting with the old man and feeling the bit of resistance his body made as he drove his sword into the man's abdomen...

He didn't like it... The adrenaline of running after leaving Shikaku propped up on the bench that day was now rushing through his body again. Another deep breath or two and he was calming down again. It didn't help that I used my skill to kill him. Skills that were meant to defend people from harm... Then you end up captured and harmed, despite my efforts to prevent it... I had failed to keep my promise to him. You were broken and alone up there. And when the students returned, I failed myself even more. I ran into one student... Long blond hair... Very deadly having taken out a platoon...I caught her and called for her capture... The grunts killed another young girl who's name I can see from here... A young girl with blond hair... In trying to keep people from harm, someone's daughter was still killed...

All he did now was look up into the skies. He watched a few clouds roll by from behind his white bangs. As he looked up at them, he could feel a couple of tears coming down. So much has happened to people because of me... And I can't do anything to fix it at this point... I've done too much. I'm not surprised you can't forgive me and I can't blame you... I'm still a child and I'm only recently trying to take responsibility for my past actions... But while I'm trying to make up for what I've done, the guilt and regret continue to eat away at me... I stand here looking at these graves and trying to think of an appropriate apology to them all... To the girl... To Shikaku... And now that you're here... To you... But I can't think of anything... Just asking you how I could deal with the guilt and shame... I feel I'm not even worthy to ask you that... Wether or not she saw him trying to make excuses or if she saw he was being genuine didn't matter to him. He just wanted to know where to start. How to come to terms with his mistakes and his past.

"Shut up..." Annie muttered. And when Taku continued, she repeated it. But it wasn't until the end that she shouted it at him. "Are you done pitying yourself!?" She stood up. "You keep saying how you want to make amends. But what you're really looking for is sympathy and an out! You want me to tell you how to deal with you're so-called-guilt? If you can't live with your shame, then you know the remedy for it already! But you want some other way!" It would have been easier to tell him to jump in the lake and not hold his breath. "I've never done anything near to anything you've done. Even if I knew how to help you with your guilt... I'm not sure i would even want to tell you. Because it isn't fair that you get to live to be guilty... It really isn't..." More tears escaped her, and sniffles forced her to take a breath. And it was times like these that she should have waited for Tony. She should have waited to have someone to keep her from saying things that were terrible. "I don't give a dam about your honor or guilt. To be frank... I hope it haunts you to the last of your days. And I want you to hurt every second of every day, whether you're awake or asleep. Just so you can taste how much I've been hurting since team rocket started their war."

I understand you hate me... But I'm not going to be a coward and commit suicide... A pathetic and even more shameful way to go, really. If you were going to get yourself killed, may as well do it while trying to do something useful. But Taku had no plans for that either. It would be a challenge to make it, even with the guilt eating at him every moment. I've always believed in the saying the wielder of the weapon kills, not the weapon. And the whole time, I wanted to be the weapon rather than the wielder. Now I'm only seeing myself as the wielder. My own arrogance... He kept his gaze up, not able to bring himself to look her in the eye. He felt it would be insulting her rather than respecting her by looking at her.

I can apologize as many times as I want in as many ways as I want... But I guess you won't have any of it. You won't believe anything I say. I get it. I won't try to do anything against you, though. I'm not Gianna or Gino... I'll be damned by Arceus himself before I become them... With that, he fell silent. He wanted to get her help, but she didn't even seem to want to be around him. But Taku was here to pay his respects. He was trying to make things right, even if it would take several years. However, his thoughts also skimmed on wether or not he would ever gain Annie's forgiveness. He was still unsure on how Reyes felt. After all, he was the one who defeated Taku.

Taku turned his head back down, looking at the graves and memorial stones with the names of those not buried here or unable to be found. As he looked on, studying every name, he tried to think of an apology again. Fliskile and Altair watched the entire scene from afar, not wanting to interfere. They didn't want Taku pushing them back and they also didn't want to interrupt the conversation, no matter how heated. But even they had their opinions on the woman. Fliskile believed she was just being outright unfair to Taku, seeing as he at least tried to secure her safety when Team Rocket invaded. Altair just wanted her to stop. He didn't much care for her reasons, but felt all of her anger and it started to affect him. He wanted her to be calm. But he was sure she wouldn't even notice him.

Taku spoke softly, letting Annie listen if she wanted, but letting it be more directed to those now buried. I can never come up with a good enough apology... To any of you. No matter how long I try. But I don't want you stuck with anger or sorrow. I'm sorry... It's not good enough, I know, but... I'm sorry. I hope you can all forgive me at some point... He still tried to think of something to say. Something to show he wanted to do right by the departed and their friends and family. Then he remembered Lavender as she treated his injuries. Remembering her idea, he kept his head towards the graves but spoke to Annie again. There was a girl... Lavender. Green haired girl. Treated my injuries... Said I might be able to help people make better choices in who they associate themselves with so they won't join crime groups like I did. If you'll allow me, I'd like to try just that. Talk to those here so they understand what happened and to try to keep them out of groups like Team Rocket...

He hoped she would see the good that would bring. But would she even trust him at all? He was sure it would take a lot of trust to allow him to be around s single child, even his own younger brother. But he wanted to keep these kids from the path of destruction. He already suffered enough with Team Rocket. Would it be fair to let anyone else suffer like that?

Annie stood still, slowly turning away. "I don't care what you do with your time," She said lowly and bitter. "But if you harm a single person... Even the slightest bit! I'll take a sin of my own, and make certain that you will never again have the chance to harm anyone again." Her words were sharp, her breath like fire. "But leave me be. I only ever feel anger when I'm around you. Anger and remorse... So keep out of my way." The last bit of her emotion went out in somber words, waiting for him to leave.

And once he had left, she let herself fall to her knees and lay across Caim's and Shikaku's graves. Her day was a long spiral of everything gone wrong.
