I have followed this game series for almost 10 years now and I play it religiously.

Alatreon was based off of the mythical creature Pegasus.
Amatsumagatsuchi's first and only appearance was in Portable 3rd (as of 2012)
When choosing weapons based on either elemental power or raw damage, it is better to take the weapon with higher raw damage.

Jinouga (Zinogre in english) was the first wyvern of its type.
It is speculated but not confirmed that

Kirin is the smallest elder dragon ever released.
Monsters are put into the category of "elder dragon" if they do not fall under any of the other categories of monsters, aka, if they are a unique monster.
Certain monsters have different elemental weaknesses based off of which game you are playing.
Announcements as of 2013:
MH is now coming to the PC! MHO (Monster Hunter Online) is currently being developed and tested! A new weapon is being added. A virus has spread among the monsters! (I wonder what the story behind that will be?)
