Rosaline stared up at the Russian fearfully, letting out a small gulp. Ivan chuckled brightly and walked over toward her, causing her to shift uncomfortably in her seat. As he sat down next to her, he let out a childish smile.
“Privet, comrade. You know, I never caught your name earlier when you ran into me,” he said almost coldly, his smile never wavering.
The Italian looked up at him nervously, “Y-You don’t say? W-W-Well my name is… Uh… R-Rosaline Vargas, Signor…” she giggled nervously, feeling her own sweat drop.
“Vargas?” he questioned, tapping his chin, “Oh! That must mean you’re one of the Italians, da? You know, I happen to find Italians to be extremely cute and silly.”
That statement caused Rosaline’s cheeks to flare up, “Um… G-Grazie…” she managed to choke out right as soon as the art teacher walked into the room.
She listened intently to the small introduction and lecture that came from the teacher’s mouth. She pulled out her sketchbook and pencil, hoping that the assignment for the class wouldn’t be too hard for her to accomplish.
“Okay, class, I want you to draw the person that’s sitting next to you,” the teacher explained plainly, “Oh yeah. That person will also be your artist partner for the rest of the school semester. Well, have at it!”
Rosaline’s face paled. Oh no. The known Russian bully was her partner for the rest of the semester? Her mind quickly thought of some many horrible theories that could become a reality and make her favorite class of the semester turn to hell.
Crap!! Rosaline mentally screamed as she glanced up at her new ‘partner.’ He was frowning and annoyingly tapping the top of his sketchbook. Her fear quickly changed into curiosity. Why is Signor Ivan annoyed? Is he bored? She asked herself, staring at him.
The Italian gulped nervously and turned to face him, flipping open her sketchbook, “Signor Ivan, um… You really need to get started.”
Ivan glanced at her and sighed, turning his body toward her, “Fine. But I don’t have a pencil, comrade. Perhaps I could borrow one of yours?”
Rosaline quickly dug into her bag and gave him the pencil he asked for, “H-Here… And, um… These are due at the end of class, si? So we better hurry with it.”
With enough said, the Italian started to sketch her creepy Russian partner, watching each line form onto her paper. Ivan, surprisingly, started sketching as well, using a bit of force to make his lines dark on his paper. His violet eyes glared down at the paper as he roughly tried to erase the lines he hated. A frustrated sigh escaped his lips as he struggled to make another decent line.
After a few minutes of sketching, Rosaline looked down at her finished work, writing her name in the bottom right corner. She smiled brightly at it, feeling grateful that Feliciano taught her how to draw. She glanced up at Ivan, noticing the frustration across his face. His sketchbook was down on the table, closed up.
“Um… Signor, do you mind if I take a look…?” Rosaline asked nervously.
“Da, but only if I look at yours,” he answered, feeling his eyebrow twitch.
Rosaline reached over and nervously took the Russian’s sketchbook, flipping it open to see a messily drawn portrait of her. She felt her sweat drop.
“Um… This is, um…. Unique…”
“You don’t need to lie, comrade. You might as well tell me the truth. By the way, your picture looks great,” he commented, sliding her book back to her.
“I-If you say so…” she replied, taking in a deep breath, “The lines are too dark, which isn’t great for if you need to erase something, the eyes are much too big for the face, and they’re all the way up on the forehead, the lips are too small, and my curl is much too big. Of course, if you were going for a different style, I’m sure it looks great, but for a portrait, it’s not that great.”
Ivan simply blinked at her, listening to her critique. Was he really that bad? Rosaline looked up at him and gasped, looking down at her sketchbook.
“But, um… For a first try, it’s okay,” she said, trying not to bash on his sketch.
Once the bell rang, Rosaline quickly slung her bag over her shoulder and dashed up toward the front, turning in the sketchbooks, and quickly heading out for lunch. Ivan watched her leave, chuckling from amusement, causing the Latvian boy to scurry out of the room. His eyes looked down to see her mechanical pencil lying on the desk. A smile spread across his cheeks. Returning her pencil would certainly give him a reason to see her again. Ivan gently tucked the pencil into the pocket of his blazer, striding out of the room.

“Dudes! How’s it going?” Alfred called out to Rosaline and Matthew as he spotted them sitting in a corner in the cafeteria. Following into the cafeteria after him was Arthur. Rosaline blushed slightly at the sight of him, shifting a bit in her seat as she took out her lunch bag.
“Hey there, Al. I’m surprised you recognized me this time,” Matthew greeted, taking a bite of his barbeque rib sandwich that was provided by the school.
“Quit your bitching, dude. I noticed you now, didn’t I?” Alfred asked, smiling brightly over at Rosaline. He sat down across from Matthew so that Arthur would have no choice but to sit across from Rosaline at their table, “So, how are you, Rosa? Classes haven’t bugged you yet, have they?”
“Oh, um… No. In fact, I really like my classes so far,” Rosaline answered softly, taking a small bite into the pasta that she cooked for her and her brothers.
“That’s great to hear, love,” Arthur spoke up, his emerald eyes once again looking her over, “By the way, when I looked at your class schedule, it seems we have the last two classes together. At least you know that you have someone to rely on in those classes.”
“Grazie, Signor, but I don’t think I would need to rely on anyone… Um… I can pass classes on my own just fine.”
“Dude, so you’re saying you got algebra next?” Alfred asked, receiving a nod from her, “I have a cousin that’s going to be in that class, too!”
“Al, I really hope you don’t mean Chelsee,” Matthew spoke up, sweat dropping a bit.
“That’s exactly what he’s saying!” a girl answered, hooking her arm around Rosaline’s neck gently, “Hey there. My name’s Chelsee LeBlanc! You can just call me Chelsee, so no need to be formal, yeah? I’m here to be your best friend and help you out in anyway I can!”
Rosaline looked up at the girl that wanted to be her friend. She had long frayed crimson hair that swayed at the back of her shoulders. Her mischievous vermillion irises stared down at her as she smirked. Rosaline blinked, trying to register what was going on with the redhead with a thick Southern accent.
“Um… C-Ciao,” she greeted shyly, “Um…”
“Hey, dude! That girl you’re clinging on is Rosaline Vargas. She’s my new best friend. And you already know Mattie and Artie.”
“I told you not to call me that!” Arthur snapped at Alfred, glaring up at him.
Rosaline stared at the Englishman sitting across from her. He seemed to be really kind to her, but not to Alfred. It was very strange to her. Chelsee glanced down at her, then over at Arthur, and back at her with a smirk.
“So, have you asked if he has a girlfriend yet?” she asked quietly enough for her, lightly nudging her arm.
Her face lit up like a firecracker, “Uh… N-N-No, I haven’t, Signorina!”
“I’ll let you in on a secret, since we’re friends and all,” the Southern-accented girl decided, still keeping her voice low for Rosaline, “Arthur is single, and he is looking. I guess he’s just jealous of Alfred, considering Al’s dating Feliciano and all.”
Rosaline looked up at her, feeling her sweat drop much more, “S-Si, I knew fratello was dating an American.”
“Now, can you do me a favor?” Chelsee asked, taking a seat next to her.
“What favor do you want?”
“Well… Lovino is your oldest brother, right?”
“Si, he is… Um… Signorina, do you have a cru-?”
“SHUSH IT!” she yelled, her face turning a bright shade of red as she covered the Italian girl’s mouth. She looked over at her cousins and Arthur, making sure they weren’t paying attention to them before she removed her hand, “That’s a secret that needs to be kept between the two of us, got it?”
Rosaline simply nodded before letting her continue talking, “Good. Now, could you, um… Tell me if your brother is possibly looking for a date for the homecoming dance this Friday?”
“Um… I-I’m not really sure… I’ll have to ask him.”
“Thanks so much, dude!” Chelsee thanked, throwing her arms around her friend’s neck to pull her into a tight hug.
Alfred looked at them and turned his attention toward Arthur, “Dude! Have you asked her to the homecoming dance yet?”
The Englishman’s emerald eyes shot a warning glare up at the American, “So what if I haven’t? You know I don’t like going to those things, you twit.”
“But what if Rosa wants to go? I’m sure she’d feel bummed out if she went and no one asked her to dance.”
Arthur opened his mouth, then closed it again. Damn it. Well, he does have a point there, Arthur thought, taking a sneak peek at the Italian. She was preoccupied with Chelsee, giggling brightly. What was it about that girl that had him so interested in her? He let out a sigh and looked up at Alfred.
“Fine. I’ll go. It’ll be a nice change of pace,” he decided, taking a bite into his sandwich.
“Really?! Dude, this is gonna be so awesome! We can all have dates! Yo, Mattie! Have you asked Gilbert out yet?” he asked, wearing his signature smirk on his face.
“Um… To be honest, I haven’t asked him. Even though he’s the only other person who notices me…”
“Then it’s settled! Go ask Gilbert!” Alfred demanded, “We’re all going to have so much fun this Friday!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rosaline closed up her textbook and notebook, sighing with relief. Her algebra class was finally over. She wasn’t very good at math anyways, but those problems seemed simple enough. As she put away her books into her bag, someone slammed their hand right on her desk, startling her.
“Kesese, don’t be so startled, Fraulein! I’m only having fun,” the albino in front of her said.
“Um… I-I wasn’t expecting that, Signor…” she mumbled quietly, gulping just a bit.
With a heavy sigh, Arthur stood up and walked over toward them, thankful that he and Rosaline had the same classes for the rest of the afternoon, “Gilbert, don’t you have anything better to do than to pick on a helpless girl?”
“I’m not picking on her. I’m only teasing!”
“It doesn’t matter. Go talk to someone else,” he said, lightly pulling Rosaline out of the room just as the class bell rang.
Rosaline glanced up at him, “Um… G-Grazie for saving me. I honestly didn’t know what to do,” she giggled nervously.
Arthur looked down at her, flashing her a gentlemanly grin, “It’s no problem, love. So, did you finish your algebra problems?”
Her cheeks blushed lightly, “S-Si, I did… We only have chemistry left, si?” she asked.
He gave her a nod and quietly escorted her toward their classroom. This turned out to be a good day, even if they had to attend the last class with Alfred. Once they walked into the classroom, Rosaline walked over and took a seat at an empty table so that Arthur could sit with Alfred.
Alfred gave them both a bright smile, “So, how was class, dudes? Boring, huh?”
“It wasn’t boring!” Arthur snapped, moving to take a seat beside the Italian girl. However, a large binder collided with the Englishman’s face, causing him to curse loudly.
Rosaline gasped and looked up at him, “Oh no! A-Are you alright, Signor?”
“Yes, I’m quite alright…” he answered, picking up the binder, “But who the hell threw that?!”
“That was me, da?” a Russian voice answered.
The three friends looked over to see Ivan walking over toward them. Alfred’s cheerful expression quickly left his face when he stopped by the Italian girl. Ivan shoved his hand into his blazer pocket and pulled out a pink mechanical pencil, holding it out to her.
“You left this in the classroom, comrade. I didn’t want anyone to steal it, so I’m returning it to you,” he said with a bright childish smile.
Rosaline looked down at the pencil and gently took it from him, “G-Grazie… I was wondering if I dropped it somewhere, so I had to borrow Signor Arthur’s pencil…” she explained softly.
Arthur smirked proudly, grabbing the back of the empty chair to take a seat, “I was glad to help, love, but you can keep that pencil. I insist, really.”
Ivan moved quickly, pushing the Englishman away from the chair. He took the seat and chuckled at the plain number two pencil that sat beside her, “You mean this pencil? It looks awful, but I’m sure I could borrow it, right?” he asked her.
“Um… S-Si, you can borrow it, Signor Ivan…”
Arthur glared down at the Russian and moved over toward Alfred’s table, taking a seat beside him. The American clenched his fists tightly under the table.
“Dude, this is why I freaking hate Ivan. He thinks he can just get whatever he wants,” he complained.
“Well, we’ll just have to deal with it only in this class,” Arthur reassured, keeping an eye on the Russian. The teacher entered the classroom, quickly explaining how to solve a few different equations for chemistry. He ordered the students to choose a partner and took a seat at his desk.
Ivan saw the opportunity given to him and looked down at the Italian girl. He could get close to the girl from this class, and the art class, “So, we’re partner, da?” he asked.
Rosaline looked up at him, opening her mouth to answer just as Arthur spoke up, “Rosaline, I think we should be partners. That way, we’d be able to have a bit of free time at the end of class to just chat.”
The Russian shot a warning glare at the Englishman, only to receive one in return.
“Um… I-I’m not really sure…” she looked over at the pouting American and moved her things over toward him. Alfred was her friend, and she wanted to spend time with her friends, “Alfred, you look lonely. Would you like to be my partner…?”
Arthur and Ivan’s jaws dropped. She went over and asked Alfred. Why would she do that? Alfred smiled brightly at her and patted the seat beside him, “Sure, dude! We’re gonna have a lot of fun!”
“Privet, comrade. You know, I never caught your name earlier when you ran into me,” he said almost coldly, his smile never wavering.
