Hey, guys. Long time.

As most of you know, modifications have become somewhat of a rarity nowadays. This is primarily due to the fact that the modifiers have not come to a decision on how to price modifications. In the past, all modifications had set prices. Piercings, jewelry, tribe modifications, tattoos, and custom modifications. With the addition of modifiers, prices became skewed and varied from modifier to modifier. Essentially, all modifiers' prices differ. We don't like that.

So what Spazzy and I have been attempting to do is match our prices so we can open modifications more frequently and regularly. As far as jewelry, piercings, and tribe modifications go, we're pretty set.

However, we have reached an impasse on the topic of tattoos.

Here's our issue:

  • In the past, tattoos were priced based on location and size. For example, half-leg tattoos were priced at 1k while full back tattoos were priced at 3k.
  • Well, what if a customer wanted to order a very simple, plain, back tattoo [ie; a nautical star] and another customer wanted an intricate tattoo on its fox's paw [ie; ornate henna]. Do we charge the simple, easy tattoo at 3k when the more time-consuming, intricate tattoo is priced at 1k? It seems kinda off-balance to us.
  • At the same time, giving each and every customer a price quote for each and every tattoo is ridiculously time-consuming. Also, that leaves a little room for debate. For example, let's say Patron A ordered a hip tattoo of a celtic knot and Patron B ordered a hip tattoo of tribal origin. Both lean on the complex side, but it really depends on the tattoo. Well, Spazzy may charge more for the celtic knot and less for the tribal tattoo while I charge more for the tribal tattoo and less for the celtic knot. Or, Patron A might find it unfair that his celtic knot was charged more than Patron B's tribal tattoo. As much as we would like to be like a traditional tattoo parlor and base our prices on the tattoo itself, it would be very difficult.

So Spazzy and I would like to hear your opinions. Should we charge more on location or give out price quotes? Some combination of the two? Help us out. c:

Okay, so Spazzy and I continued our discussion.

We think we're gonna set up a separate thread strictly for price quotes of tattoos and custom items. Basically, you post the tattoo/item you want, where you want it, and on what fox. Then Spazzy and I review your order and price it for you. You post that price once you actually order. Like any tattoo parlor~

Thoughts?

I like the idea of quoting, but if you want to do a more price based it can fall into the lines of the difficulty/time consumption of them. Like Moderate tattoo is priced at 1k, harder/more time is 3K or something like that? Sorry that my thoughts are not coming out they way I want them to in words.

Yeahhh, essentially. The problem Spazzy and I reached, though, is how do we define a moderate tattoo and differentiate easy from medium from hard?

If you were to order a tattoo, Spazzy could call it a moderate tattoo while I call it a harder tattoo. That's not fair to your order, that you would be charged more or less depending on which modifier you happen to order from.

We want it to be you can post whatever you want to order, and Spazzy and I would both charge the same price for it.

Problemsss. D:

Well, I agree with the price quoting idea, since I can't think of another, more fair, less time-consuming way to go about it.

Honestly, I don't think you can do the same pricing.
Ever.

Why? You and Spazzy have different talents! I really really don't think you guys can categorize what is easy, hard, or medium due to the fact that what is easy for you could be omfgwhyisthishappening hard for Spazzy.

So I think you guys should have separate lists of what is hard/medium/whatever but same prices for what falls under those categories.

Like:

Spazzy prices easy things at 1k, medium at 3k, hard at 5k. Or whatever. You do as well. But you guys will have a list of what you consider, personally, falls under those lists.

So lets say Spazzy finds swirls hard? Welp, swirls go under hard. But you're great at them! So for you swirls is super easy and is 1k.

It's a pain in the butt, but I think that's how it will have to be. It's fair, mostly because you'd let customers know before-hand what you consider is which level, and it's the customers CHOICE to choose one of you. You could choose Spazzy who (in this example) is stupidly good at crazy lines but bad at swirls, or you could choose Shi, who is stupidly good at swirls but bad at crazy lines. If you choose the more expensive one that's your decision.

It's not what you two wanted, exactly. But it's a way. Having the categories the same price but stating WHAT falls under that category is different for both artist seems more fair to the artists, who are doing the actual work.
