Oh my… What a large building for a high school, Rosaline Vargas thought as she stared up at the tall tan and brown brick building in front of her. A gentle breeze blew against her chin length redwood-colored locks, her signature Italian curl bouncing just a bit. She adjusted the bottom of her navy blue blazer, taking in a deep breath. It was her first day of high school, and she was quite nervous to be attending a public school for once.
“Sorella, we need to get moving if we’re not quick,” Lovino’s voice was demanding, his chocolate brown eyes settling down on his little sister.
“R-Right! I’m coming, fratello!” she answered, running over toward him and Feliciano. Rosaline ran inside ahead of her brothers. She turned toward them for a moment, waving at them, “I’ll see you after school!” she announced before running down the hallway toward her assigned locker.
Feliciano waved off at her, “Have fun, sorella!”
As she ran down the hallway, she slowed down her pace to a slow walk. She took out a piece of paper from the pocket of her red plaid skirt, staring down at her locker number and combination. Rosaline sighed, looking around for some help. She felt completely lost, not even sure if she was down the right hallway for her locker anyways.
A loud American voice broke her away from her thoughts, “Dude, you lost?”
Rosaline glanced up at the tall blonde American boy that stood in front of her. His bright ocean blue eyes glinted with amusement as he watched her stand uncomfortably by him. He pushed his glasses up his nose just a little bit with a wide grin. He wasn’t alone, either.
There was another boy standing with him, who was just a little bit shorter than the American. His ruffled blonde hair perfectly framed his, even though it looked messy. His piercing emerald green orbs slowly scanned her from top to bottom, causing the shy Italian to blush. He gave her a polite smile as he held out his hand.
“Mind if I take a look at her paper? I may be able to help you,” he offered, hinting a thick British accent.
Rosaline blushed as she handed him the paper. The American stuck his hand out, smiling wider than he did before.
“My name’s Alfred F. Jones, dude! This stuck-up man beside me is Arthur Kirkland,” Alfred introduced the both of them, shaking her hand.
“Shut up, you wanker!” Arthur snapped, “I am not stuck-up! Please excuse his behavior, Miss. He’s not the brightest student around here. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance.”
She timidly shook Alfred’s hand, staring up at the both of them. “Um… I-It’s nice to meet you both. I’m Rosaline Vargas…”
Alfred let go of her hand and smiled brightly, “Vargas? Dude, so you know Lovino!”
“Si. He’s in fact my fratello. I’m assuming you’re the “hamburger b*****d” that he always talks about…?”
“He talks about me?! Dude, that’s totally awesome!”
“Um… Si,” she giggled nervously, not sure what to make of the loud American.
“Okay,” Arthur broke in before Alfred could ramble on about Lovino, “Your locker’s just down this hall. It’s right next to Alfred’s. I guess he’ll show you. And your first class is just right around the corner.”
“Si. Grazie so much, Signor Arthur,” she thanked, grabbing her paper from him. Her hazel eyes stared up at him, causing her face to heat up. She had never seen a man that looked so handsome before.
“It was no problem at all. Now, you should hurry before you’re late for class,” he instructed her, flashing her a small tight-lipped smile.
Rosaline nodded, looking down at her feet. “Ah, si… Grazie so much for your help,” With that, she started heading off to find her locker.
Alfred glanced between the two of them as she left, a mischievous grin curved up onto his face, “Dude, you totally got the hots for her,” he teased.
“Shut up, you wanker! You should go help her before she gets lost,” Arthur retorted, storming off down the hall. Yet subconsciously, his lips curved up into a small smile of happiness from meeting the shy girl.
“Yo! Wait up!” Alfred called after Rosaline, running after her. When he reached her, he laughed loudly, “So, your locker’s next to mine. That’s cool. That means we’ll get to be awesome friends,” he decided.
Rosaline blinked and smiled shyly up at him, “Ah, si. That would be great, Signor Alfred.”
The American stopped at a locker, messily turning the knob to put in the combination, “Hey, I’m not an old man. We’re friends, right? Just call me Alfred. Or Al. Whichever you prefer.”
She put in her combination and opened up her locker with ease, “R-Right… I’ll try to remember that, Alfred,” she said quietly, a timid blush running across her face.
Rosaline neatly and gently put away her unneeded books and notebooks, along with her packed lunch on the top shelf of her locker. As she closed up her school bag, slinging it over her shoulder, the two-minute warning bell rang, signaling for students to hurry off to class. She gasped loudly, slamming her locker shut.
“Oh no! I’m late for class! I’ll see you later, Alfred!” Rosaline said her farewell before dashing down the hall into a full-out run.
“Dude! You still got two minutes!” he called out after her, trying to get her to stop. To no avail, he watched her run off, ignoring him. With a shrug, he turned his heel and walked off to his own class.
Rosaline ran down the hall, turning the corner just in time to bump into a large man that was rounding the corner. She fell backwards onto the ground, dropping her bag, her paper falling out of her pocket. The man still stood, looking down at the girl with an irritated glare. She glanced up at him, her face heating up. The man was tall, with beautiful platinum blonde hair that framed his large face. Despite his long nose, his face still looked beautiful. He let out a smile at her, chuckling a little bit childishly, yet his violet eyes just screamed “Irritation!” He wore a long ivory scarf that wrapped snuggly around his neck.
“Oh, um… I-I’m so sorry, Signor! I wasn’t watching where I was going…” she apologized nervously, picking up her bag and scrambling to her feet.
The man chuckled again, “It’s alright, but next time you should watch where you’re going, da?” he suggested, his voice holding a thick Russian accent.
Rosaline nodded, sweat dropping a bit, “S-Si, Signor… I’m terribly sorry to have bothered you…” She started to walk off again, but the Russian grabbed her wrist firmly.
“Wait. I don’t think you would want to forget this,” he handed her the class schedule that she dropped.
The Italian girl timidly took the folded paper and shoved it back into her skirt pocket, “Grazie…”
He smiled down at her. She looked so amusing being so flustered and quiet underneath his gaze. The Russian let go of her wrist, giving her a gentle pat on her shoulder, “Well, hopefully I will see you again, da? You’re quite adorable.”
Rosaline’s face was flaming at the compliment. She wasn’t used to getting compliments from people outside of her family. Feliciano always gave her compliments, telling her that she should dress up more often.
“Uh…. G-G-G-Grazie, Signor,” she stammered, tearing off down the hallway toward her class.
The Russian watched her run off, a sly smirk making it’s way up onto his face. That girl certainly was interested to him, and he wanted to see more of her. With a chuckle, he headed off toward his class.

Rosaline dashed into her classroom just as the bell rang. She let out a deep sigh of relief. Thank goodness she was able to get herself away from that Russian man that kept smiling down at her. Her hazel eyes glanced out around the room, scanning for a seat. The Italian spotted a seat in the back corner of the room. The perfect place to stay out of the teacher’s gaze, and it looked like no one was sitting beside that seat, too. She made her way toward her seat, setting her bag down by the chair. As she sat down, her hazel eyes moved down toward the bag on the ground at the seat next to hers. It was really big for an ordinary school bag, and it seemed to move. Then she moved her eyes up toward the boy that sat in the seat. He looked a lot like Alfred, but his wavy hair cascaded down to his chin, and he had a long curl that fell on the right side of his face. His blue-violet eyes blinked at her and he smiled politely.
“Oh, hello there,” he greeted quietly, almost breathy.
“Um… C-Ciao. Mi dispiace… I didn’t notice you there at first. I hope you’re not angry,” she apologized, smiling nervously at him.
“It’s okay. Not many people notice me. Sometimes Alfred doesn’t even recognize me, and I’m his brother,” he complained.
Rosaline blinked at him and giggled lightly, “I didn’t know Alfred had a fratello. At least he didn’t mention it. I just met him today, and he wants to be my friend.”
“Yeah, he usually forgets who I am… But if you want, I can be your friend,” he smiled hopefully.
“Si, that would be great, Signor… Uh…”
“Matthew Williams, but you can just call me Matthew,” he introduced himself.
“Right, Matthew. Um… My name is Rosaline Vargas. It’s nice to meet you,” she smiled softly, giggling lightly.
“Same here,” he smiled more and watched as their teacher entered the room. Instantly becoming bored with their English class, he looked over at her, “So, do you want eat lunch with me? I’m sure Alfred will come to eat lunch with us, too.”
Rosaline looked up at him and smiled softly, letting out a small giggle, “Si. That’d be great.”
“Ms. Vargas. Mr. Williams. Please pay attention to class. In fact, you both will be the first ones to recite your poetry tomorrow,” the teacher scolded them, narrowing his eyes at them through his glasses.
Matthew shrank down in his seat, pushing up his glasses on the bridge of his nose. He let out a small sigh of disappointment.
“Great… I honestly thought that he wouldn’t notice me. Most people don’t…”
“I agree, Signor,” she agreed as she sank down in her seat. She gazed down at her books that she laid out on her desk, along with her class schedule. Her hazel eyes scanned the next class: Art.
Matthew looked over at her schedule with his blue-violet irises, letting out a sigh, “Oh goodness… You have art, but so does Ivan Braginski.”
Rosaline tilted her head at him, “Ivan? Who’s he?”
“He’s a really tall Russian student here. He always smiles, but he bullies everyone. And he wears a scarf…”
She gasped, “I bumped into him this morning. Oh dear… I do hope I don’t get bullied for running into him today…”
“Oh goodness… Well, I hope you’ll be alright, Rosa,” he inquired, smiling worriedly at her.

After a long hour and a half, the class bell rang. Rosaline shoved her books into her bag and slung it over her shoulder, sighing. She stood up just as her friend did.
“Well, I wish you luck with your next class. And I’ll see you at lunch, right?”
“Si. I’ll see you at lunch,” she smiled at him before walking out of the room quickly.
The Italian couldn’t help but think about what Ivan would do once she got to class. Would he hit her? Make remarks about her? Stare her down? Any of that sounded just awful, and she didn’t want to know what he had in store for her. Rosaline entered the artist room, moving quickly to an empty table in the bag, taking her seat by it. A young man sat in front of her, also with blonde hair and bright blue eyes, but he looked frightened. He sat alone in front of her, shivering.
She leaned forward, lightly tapping his shoulder. The boy looked over at her like a deer caught in the headlights.
“Um… S-Signor, are you okay? If you want, I can sit with you…” she tried to comfort him.
“N-No thanks, Miss. It’s alright…” he answered, chuckling nervously.
Rosaline smiled softly at him, leaning back. She noted that he must be from Latvia, “Si, if you say so, Signor,” she said.
“Oh. It seems we do have the same class together.”
Her hazel orbs glanced up to meet the violet eyes of the tall Russian that entered the room. His grin widened more as he stared at her, letting out a chuckle. She felt a cold shiver of fear up at the known bully…
Signor Ivan Braginski really is here!
