Ooof, that's a toughy. >.<
I really like 'The Diviners' by... Libba Bray, I think? Sure, there were flaws, but the story still sucked me in and left me craving for a sequel (which is coming out soon! whee )
I also like 'Moon and Sun: The Ruby Key' by Holly Lisle, which is a book I read when I was, like, around twelve. It was amazing. Other than being well written, the story was so heart-wrenching and it wasn't all kid-ish, sugar coating any unpleasant details. I still want to read the second book, and I'm desperately hoping that the author manages to get the third book underway. (She was having some difficulties--originally, the books were supposed to be in a series of seven books, but her publishers wanted her to squeeze everything down in a third book).
Obviously the Harry Potter books blew me away, and I really like Rick Riordan, too. And... that's about it, for my favourites. ._/
