Hey mangs hey! (I feel like this is the only appropriate way to start anything to do with MLH)
I've been noticing a real downturn in people who are available in the thread to help out others in ZOMG. This isn't a finger pointing thing, it's just an observation. As substitute 'fearless leader', I'm just as unavailable as other people, in my case because I'm having some troubles with my health (nothing super serious, just enough to screw up my quality of life), and anxiety. This means that I don't personally have energy to get people organised and excited.
It's not a problem, I understand that life happens, but I'm also reluctant to leave a thread running when there aren't people there to run the service.
What does this mean? ~I'm looking to see if there is someone who would like to take on day-to-day operations of MLH, but I'm not really expecting someone to be forthcoming. I love all you guys, and I understand that you're super busy/don't want to lead things/afraid of Marshall ~If there isn't someone forthcoming, I'd feel like it would be prudent to put the helping part of MLH into indefinite hiatus ~We could still hang out in ZOMG, have our chats, do random movie nights/event threads/other things which we do ~I'd probably see about setting up a friend's chat thread so we can hang out and talk on Gaia ~People can still help out those who request help, but there wouldn't be an 'official' area to do so
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. I kind of think of this place as a democratic autocracy (don't even ask), so input is very welcome!
I'll quote you all in the next post because there's no point trying to quote people in the first post of a thread.

Well, I still feel kind of new to the thread/guild/zOMG in general, so I don't really feel equipped to comment. I would say that while I'd love to help out, you're probably right that I don't think I could commit to taking a complete leadership role. So while I'm happy to play supporting cast, I guess a hiatus probably makes sense if there aren't enough people able to help out right now.
I think part of the problem is that a lot of people are just losing interest in zOMG. It's a fun game, but with no updates in sight and not many people playing regularly, it doesn't really have that much purpose in many players' lives right now. Plus, as a result, I think there are fewer new users picking it up and even needing the help - it seems like, for the most part, people are just getting on to SMOB until they nerf and going along their merry way, with very little participation in the non-farming aspects of the game.
I would love to continue helping people as they need it, and I think it would be nice if the thread maybe still existed with a caveat (that people might or might not be around), but I'm not sure how to make that work without the thread just dying or turning into just chatting hangouts with no more help or substance.
So yeah, that's my two cents, but I dunno if that really answers any questions....

I'll assist any way that I can, not getting many hours from work recently so if I'm online, chances are I'm available.

gaia_crown I'd still be happy to help whenever I'm available. I have to admit though, I haven't really been pretty active in the thread or guild as my attention is elsewhere at most. sweatdrop Because a crew member of another guild + still managing my own art shop and been busy with that + RL issues (health and what not).

sweatdrop I am definitely one of those people with less time/effort going towards zomg/MLH/gaia in general. I apologize for that. I love you guys but I know that I can't put a lot of time here right now. However, I don't want to see MLH gone for good. While this is true, I worry a bit that if we do shut down the Helper part of MLH, even indefinitely instead of permanently, we might become the next "elitists" or whatever people whine about in the forums. Its important to still be accessible to new people, I think. Even if we aren't here to be helpful like we once were.

I don't necessarily think we need a leader. Like you said(and I've observed), most of the more active members help when help is requested. At the same time, I've seen many instances where help is requested at "dead" times of day. Somebody contacts them, however they're logged off and they do not see the message. They come back on the next day and see the message, but it's again during a time where there are little to no active members. It's this constant ping-ponging that makes it hard to help those who need it.
I will admit that I am at fault here, too. I don't have the time to play zOMG, even for a little while, with all the things going on right now. As for the state of the thread and guild, I think putting the "helping" part on an indefinite hiatus is absolutely fine. It does not seem likely that it will return. There was an event factor that had something to do with our participation. Whenever we held events, there was definitely more activity in the thread. Hell, even when some of the older members quoted more people than needed for sEB and SMEB runs, there was definitely more activity in the thread. Most of us just forgot the fun of it . It sucks that there are little people active to keep on enjoying the guild, but we're just going to have to let the cats keep on fighting

I think the thread should be left as is. There will still be at least the small occasion when someone does manage to help someone out. Plus it's not all about crewing. Some people just come in asking for advice which anyone can give at any time. I try and help newbies whenever I can, but they always seem to be on at the worst possible times, doesn't help that I live halfway aroudn the world from the rest of everybody either. sweatdrop

I get the feeling that ieveryone is playing zOMG! less these days - I suspect that there are fewer new players to help, and fewer of those in the z!F to ask for it anyway. If it were up to me (and it's not, of course) I'd opt to leave the thread where it is; if you're concerned about inactivity, just make a note in the thread encouraging extra patience when asking for help. Just because you're no longer in a position to help everyone who requests it immediately doesn't mean you're done helping, and I don't - personally - think it means you no longer belong in the z!F.
I suppose you should take that opinion with a grain of salt, though; I'm hardly an authority on what's forum-appropriate, and I may be biased simply because I like MLH and would be sad to see the Forum without you. I know that's not exactly a compelling reason to keep the thread as it is, though... sweatdrop

→ I don't really have time nowadays with a baby and work, but I think the thread should stay the same. There are still people who would like to help and able to so it'd be unfair to them if you changed it. Also, I like the thread, same as Red, and I don't want to see it become something else because it's been the same for so long and I'd miss how it used to be. So I'm biased.

I'd love it if MLH stayed how it is now. Like Keakealani and Red suggested, I feel a warning or note would be enough for the worries about inactivity. Even though I honestly can't remember the last time I posted in the thread, I still look at is as my home on gaia. It's how I met all of you wonderful, crazy people. Heck, we're all biased here.

Thanks so much everyone for your input, and prompt responses!
I don't especially want to close the thread, and I do think that perhaps the suggestion of Silk and Keakealani to just ask extra indulgence of people would be appropriate.
I do realise that we're a reasonably self-governing entity, and it's not like people need to keep an eye on you to help, but I just felt some kind of guilt about not being able be around to inject a bit of energy into the thread. Life isn't the easiest for me, though I am happy to help out on my good days.
MLH is still one of my favourite parts of Gaia, and I cherish all my memories and fun which I've shared and hope to make many more.
So, I'll amend the OP and things will continue as they are for the moment. I know that I personally will try to be around when I can. I think that the situation is open to be reassessed in the future, but that's what I think is most prudent at the moment.
If you haven't put in your two cents yet, or if you have additional views to add, please feel free to do so. smile

I also have a lot of real life issues taht are interfering with my ability to spend a lot of time online.
It would help if things weren't "right now", and were scheduled a day or two in advance, that might make it easier for more people to be available.
