Anybody like grunge music or would love to learn about it? It's really a fascinating time for music (IMO) Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, Nirvana, Screaming Trees, Mad Season, Temple of the Dog, Mother Love Bone, ect. :3

Vitalogy You do? Thats awesome biggrin Do you have any specific grunge bands or songs that you like the most? Well, I listen to pretty much all the standards. I've been a big fan of Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden ever since I was in middle school. In college I branched out into Screaming Trees and Mudhoney. At the moment, I've been on a big Nirvana kick with their MTV Unplugged in New York album, which is one of my favorite live albums.

I'm honestly not sure what my favorite grunge album is. I'm kind of bad at picking favorites. I'm indecisive.

I'd also like to note that, despite the vitriol of certain Kurt Cobain conspiracy theorists, Hole ******** rules.

I've listened to the bulk of Pearl Jam's discography (Riot Act, Binaural, and Backspacer are the only ones I'm missing, though admittedly, I couldn't care less about Backspacer, judging from what I've heard), all of Alice in Chains and Nirvana's discography, and some of Soundgarden's more notable albums (Batmotorfinger, Superunknown, Down on the Upside). I've only listened to Superfuzz Bigmuff from Mudhoney, although I do have the special edition, I've only listened to Apple from Mother Love Bone, and I've only listened to Live Through This from Hole. I've also listened to Days of the New's first self-titled. I believe that's my full grunge collection right there, barring some post-grunge acts and related alt-rock.

Backspacer wasnt very good, so you wernt missing anything. Soundgarden's king animal album is reeeally good. one of the best albums ive heard in 2 years, IMO. Some great Mudhoney albums are the self-titled album, Every good boy deserves fudge, my brother the cow and vanishing point. Mother love bone only has one album and that is apple(sadly, cause they were awesome) if you want to listen to more from the lead singer, his band before them was named "Malfunkshun" and they have an album that is pretty good. I also hiiiiighly recommend Mad Season's "Above" album, Its one of my favorites of all time, I just looove layne staley with a passion.(and mark lanegan)

They're a band I've heard of, but I don't think I've ever given them a listen. I'll have to check them out.

So I gave Above a listen and I dig it. I realized that I actually had heard the song "I Don't Know Anything" before, but I guess I always assumed it was an Alice in Chains song.

I was a little kid when grunge was in full swing, so to me it's always kind of been generic alternative rock, and everything else is the specialized subcategory. When I was in high school I had long blonde hair that I wore all messy and the worn out jeans and plaid shirts, which was great for attracting girls that all thought I looked like Kurt. I never really got into to fringe, I mostly just listened to Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains. I did, however, completely embrace the mentality. I never listen to Nirvana anymore because I know it so well it seems unnecessary. I'd say that Kurt Cobain was easily the biggest influence I had as a musician and teenage waster.

I'm actually starting a grunge band up at the minute. I think one of the best grunge songs that kind of tied up the era is 'Something in the way' by Nirvana. Everytime I hear it it makes me think of the whole culture and era.
