Lucian was born in the dead of winter on a dark, cold night. Of course, the hospital room where his mother had him was warm, but outside the wind howled and the snow pelted the glass of the window like rocks. Lucian was a strange baby, born with his wide open and his voice quiet, not so much as a whisper escaping his newly born lips. The doctors worried over him for weeks, keeping a constant eye on him, but for the longest time the little baby Lucian made not a sound, and his big blue eyes held an unnatural focus and intelligence. The doctors worried over him, but Lucian's mother knew exactly what the case was here, and she took him home after a few weeks of being monitored in the hospital. Once the baby boy was home with his mother and his step-father, he seemed completely normal, fussing and crying just like any child would. It seemed now that he was away from that hospital, things were just fine.

Lucian's first school was a public Catholic school in West Italy, a large, foreboding building that sat next to a massive graveyard. Lucian once more grew silent and broody, though only at school. It wasn't uncommon to see this small child of six standing forlornly at the gates of the graveyard, staring into the area as if it held some mighty secret to be uncovered. The other children were afraid of the strange, pale boy who seemed obsessed with the graveyard, and Lucian was often picked on. But he was a tough child, and only walked through the halls with his chin raised, knowing that there was something more out there for him. He spent his entire school life more or less alone, with only one or two close friends here or there. But still her knew there was something missing. And he found it at the end of his high school career.

As Lucian grew up he found a passion for photography just as he had developed a passion for the family business, watchmaking. He found that both hobbies had a lot in common, they were both an art, and a science. Though for the life of him, he could never find a way to incorporate the two together. So it was often that he'd leave his step-father's workshop with his camera in tow, heading out across Rome to take photographs of whatever caught his fancy. It was on one of these trips that he happened upon a beautiful blonde haired woman visiting one of his usual haunts, the Protestant Cemetery. Lucian, always having been shy around gorgeous strangers, stood back and snapped a picture of the woman, who was standing over top of a small, obscure tombstone. And when the woman turned and locked her shocking blue eyes on Lucian, the young man knew immediately that she was someone who would change his life. She approached him slowly, in a predatory way, and Lucian could do nothing watch. The woman smiled at him, showing her elongated, sharpened canines, and Lucian had a brief idea that she was a vampire. Ludicrous, of course. Until she spoke, "I'v finally found you, son of ____ " Lucian had laughed at this gorgeous woman, right in her face, "Please! Those gods don't exist!" The woman explained to him just how wrong he was, then she proved it. By changing into a wolf, right in front of his eyes. Lucian had looked around frantically, but the woman - the WOLF - had assured him that no one saw her or him, not anymore. And then she went on to explain just who - and what - she was, and the same about his father. Then she told him of a civilization in America, a place where he would feel at home. The allure was powerful to Lucian, to fit in, to be accepted for once. It was almost too good to be true. And, of course, it was. Because the wolf, Lupa, told him that his passage to the land would not be easy. He would have to prove himself worthy. Lucian asked how he would do that, but the wolf just shook her massive head and told him to come to California, that everything would be revealed then, but no sooner. It was not long after this meeting that Lucian set out, chasing his fate.
