The year is 30XX. Humanity has found a balance between nature and technology where they can live in luxury without endangering the planet’s health. Every week, the humans have their carbon footprint measure to show how much vice they can indulge in without going over their limit. But even if they do go over, it’s a matter of community service where they work at the Factory. The Factory is where the world-changing machines can be made. Anyone can work there to help build a piece, but no one knows how all the pieces fit together.

The Factory also produces personal attendants for those who can afford them. They do everything from cleaning and money management to tutoring and hair-styling. It all depends on what you want from them. You can also have them designed to your own visual preferences if you have the extra cash. All of this is possible thanks to the talent Dr. Ise.
Unfortunately, a week ago, the good doctor died and left everything to his son…who’s been missing for the past year. Under normal circumstances, a proxy would be used until the boy is confirmed alive or dead, but Dr. Ise’s methods made this impossible. He locked the Factory using DNA coding and the only way to unlock is through the son’s handprint. So dead or alive, they need his hand.

A year has passed and the son is still nowhere to be found. Machines everywhere are starting to malfunction due to lack of maintenance. And since no one knows how they work on a whole, no one knows how to fix them. The assistants are becoming rare as well. The younger ones were built with self-maintenance programs, so they’re okay. But now their prices have gone through the roof and peace has become disrupted as everyone begins to clamber for them. As for the old ones, they’re thrown out with the trash and often end up in back alleys. At this rate, the rapidly destabilizing balance will destroy humanity and planet both.
(This is where you come in.)
In one particular back-alley was a young man dressed in warm clothes. He was alone and digging through the trash and putting things into a small cardboard box. In the box were parts. The man then took them over to one of the older assistant bots. Using what he found, he repaired it so that it could move again. Then he removed his warm jacket, the shirt he had on underneath, and even his scarf, and then put them on the machine. “There you go. Stay warm.”

Shirtless, the young man was revealed to be a machine. He didn't look like any model ever sold on the market, though. What was he, where did he come from? And more importantly, what are you doing to do next?

Characters

Jak Ise
19 (Dec. 20th)
Likes: all machines, fixing things, staring at the sky, Dr. Ise
Dislikes: humans who throw away machines because they're 'old'
Bio: Fa- Dr. Ise is a very nice… Actually, I don’t know him too well. Most of the time he was working on older projects, fixing them when they were broken. It was okay, though, for he always let me sit there and watch him. There was little to no talking, even during meal times. On a good day, he’d let me play with some of the new creations. On a bad day, he stuck me in my room and I wasn’t allowed out until dinner. That was life in the Factory, just the two of us. But it was okay, because we liked it that way.
Then, one day, something happened. Dr. Ise was sick. He coughed a lot blood into the sick. It scared me, and that fear was reinforced when he yelled at me to go. I ran to my room and hid in the dark while I tried to think around what happened. A few days later, the good doctor came in to get me. But it wasn’t a good day. He gave me some clothes, a card with numbers on it, and a tiny case with tools inside. When I asked what was going on, he told me that it was ‘my turn’. Next thing I know, I’m outside the Factory. I never knew the sky looked so blue. So impossibly blue that I felt that I could fall up into at any moment. After that, I wandered from place to place. I was taken in by the good doctor’s old creations that lived at a junkyard. It became another home for me. I also finally got to put to use everything Dr. Ise taught me. It was fun and I was loved. But it was taken from me many months later.
Other humans came there, and the machines were taken and destroyed before my eyes. They didn’t harm me. They didn’t know me. But the machines, the machines…they told me to run, that I was too valuable to lose. So I did. I decided to never have another home again. I continued traveling from place to place, fixing any machines I came across.
It’s been over a week since I had a decent meal now. My stomach has been grumbling for a while now, but I won’t complain. No, not when there’s an old machine in front of me. She said she couldn’t move, but that was okay. She’s only missing a few parts. I found them easily in that dark alley. I fixed her up good as new. That’s when I meant you.

Collin
18 (June 1)
Likes: taking walks, listening to music, painting and just laying in bed and doing nothing.
Dislikes: loud people, his parents and grapefruit.
Bio: Collin's life growing up was ok. He came from an middle class family. They weren't poor, but they could never afford a robot to help them out. Besides his parents never thought they needed one. All the things the robots did, they could do themselves. Collin always wanted a robot though. Not for work or anything like that but at least someone to hang out with cause Collin was an only child and didn't have any friends.

Jak sighed as he just fixed an old-type female robot move again. Unfortunately, he couldn't find her any new clothes, so he just gave her his. He couldn't really get cold, so he didn't care about himself. "There. I don't know about finding you a knew owner, but at least you can get around now." He had a warm smile on his face as he stroked the robot girl's face. "Well, I have to get moving again. I still need to figure out what I'm going to do for food..."

Collin couldn't believe what he just saw. Not only did he see someone fix a robot, but gave the robot his clothes and then he turned out to be a robot himself! Collin was speechless, until he heard the human-like robot say he needed food. "You need something to eat?" Collin asked as he walked over to the other boy. "I have food at my house. Follow me and I can get something in your stomach. I know what it's like to be hungry."

{Just about. I'm on page 105. It's getting...a bit hard to read. It's like an artist looking at his old drawings or a writing looking at their old fanfictions. Kinda scary.}

Jak looked at the human with wide eyes, having not noticed his presence. "Uh...yes?" He was still nervous about humans. Although he now knew that the junkyard was raided for parts for the newer machine models, it still traumatized him seeing his precious bot family torn apart like that as if they weren't even alive. Sure, they couldn't 'feel' or comprehend emotions, but they still had their own special way of showing their 'affections'.

"Uh...are you... Who are you?"

[[ahh. I kinda know how you feel]]
"my name is Collin." Collin said as he stuck out his hand. "what about you? i never knew DR. Ise made a robot like you. But how did you get out of the factory? He died last year." Collin said still looking at the boy. He couldn't help it. He looked so much like a human, but yet Collin knew he was a robot.

"Oh, so your name is... WHAT!?" Jak's eyes widened in shock. "What do you mean fa- Dr. Ise is dead?" He put a hand to his head. "It's...I...it's been over a year since I last saw him. Is that why...he was...at the time... But then.... Why did he do... And me...and the others..." He walked over to Collin and grabbed him by the front of his shirt. "The Factory...what happened to the Factory? Is everyone inside okay!? Wait...is that why there are so many machines on the streets? And the junkyard..." He let go with a groan, becoming weak from the sudden turmoil of emotions mixed with his persisting hunger. "I...this is all so...ungh..." Unable to endure it all, he passed out. The spherical window on his stomach was completely empty.

"Oh no.." Collin said as he picked up the robot boy. "i didn't mean to make him faint. I'll carry him home and then when he wakes, I'll get him something." Collin said and proceeded to walk home. When he got there, he was glad to see his parents were off at work. He didn't want to be asked a million questions on how he got such a nice looking robot. Colin took the boy up to his room and laid him on his bed. He then sat on his desk and started to draw, until the boy awoke.

Jak didn't wake up for another hour. But now he absolutely had to find food, a proper meal. No scraps or leftovers found in a dumpster. That's when he noticed that there was a white ceiling over his head instead of the blue sky. Worried, he quickly sat up, which only made his dizzy and nauseous, so he laid back down. "Ungh... This is...this isn't good at all... Ow... Where am I?"

"your back at my house." Collin said as he stopped drawing and turned around. "I told you, you could come to my house to get something to eat." he said and stood up. He went to his closet and got out a shirt and pants for the other. "Here is something to wear if you want. then we can go downstairs and I'll get you something to settle your um..stomach." Collin said and gave a light smile.

Jak stared at Collin as if searching for something in the other's face. With another grumble from his stomach, he finally gave in. "Okay. Thank you." He took the offered shirt and pulled it on before standing up. "I don't require much to eat. A sandwich should be fine." His eyes were empty, but full of light. They looked so real with the amount of depth they had.

"Alright but if you want anything more just let me know." Collin said and led the other boy downstairs and into the kitchen. "By the way, I never got your name." Collin said and got out a plate. He then started to make a turkey and cheese sandwich. "Here you go." Collin said with a smile.

Jak nodded his head as he followed the other downstairs. A free mail and a new shirt. A surprisingly good turnout so early in the day. "It's Jak. With a 'k', no 'c'." He washed his hands at the sink he saw while the other made a sandwich for him. Then he sand down before the plate. "Thanks." He began to eat while trying to hide how extremely hungry he was. He didn't want to be greedy and he didn't like it when strangers tried to do a lot for him. Sometimes they wanted something in return, things he wasn't willing to give.

"It's nice to meet you Jak." Collin said and made himself a sandwich. "So what were you doing in the Alleyway?" Collin asked swallowing his food. "If doctor Ise had you, wouldn't have been still in the factory or something?" Collin asked as he got himself some milk.

Jak despite how much he tried to pace himself, he still ended up devouring his sandwich before Collin finished making one for himself. "Did you see her? The lonely girl? She was thrown away because of a put loose screws. So I found some and put them in to make her better." He then frowned as the topic turned back to the good doctor. "I don't know. I haven't seen him for some time..." He sounded really sad as he remembered just how long he'd been outside the Factory.

"I'm really sorry to hear that." Collin said softly. "and yeah. I did see that robot. I don't know why people would throw such expensive things away. "I've never had a robot, but I know I would never treat them that way if i did." Collin finished his milk and then washed out his cup.
