Whose lyrics do you find the most poetic? Which songwriters hit you right in the feels?
Personally, I'm fond of Joanna Newsom, John Darnielle (of The Mountain Goats), and Tom Waits, among others.

Marianas Trench, Imogen Heap, and Maria Mena. Maria Mena especially. most of the songs that she writes are either about her eating disorder or her love life or her family but each song is done so differently and the lyrics are so beautiful that i can't get annoyed with the fact that she is writting about the same thing over and over and over again. if it were any other artist i would probobly get annoyed.

Brandon Boyd from Incubus. Absolutely amazing songwriter. He manages to write lyrics to every type of genre. His solo music isn't as good but the lyrics are still kick a**.

Stumble on the brainfart!
He is my main inspiration for song writing but I can never get the same feel from mine as he seems to get from his.
We are all tomorrows fooooooood.

I just remembered that I forgot to give a nod to Matt Berninger from The National. Another one of my favorite songwriters from one of my favorite bands (seeing as pretty much all my favorite lyricists rank among my favorite acts, anyway).

Ronnie James Dio for turning albums into stories about slaying beasts and facing judgement. Florence Welsch for wording things so elegantly. David King (I think?) from flogging molly for being really poetic sometimes, and writing great narratives at others. The groups that those artists play in are also the only that I listen to in their respective genres.

I would have to say Jacob Bannon of Converge. His lyrics are so well-thought-out and beautiful, yet screamed out in the styling of a banshee.
