Story
"Not everyone deserves a second chance, but that doesn't stop many from trying."
User Image
What should happen when fallen angels -those who lost their place in heaven by turning against the lord- decide that they no longer wish to dwell in the fiery pits of hell? A rebellion is the natural result of this sudden imbalance. Some of these restless fallen ones choose to seek their redemption quietly, by concealing themselves in order to save lives, while at the same time going unnoticed by the human population. Others choose to slay the demons that try to rise against and impede their upcoming revolution, spilling the blood of their brothers in the process of proving their worthiness of a second chance. Which faction you join -fallen angel, demon, angel, or even just an innocent, by-standing human- is your choice entirely. But be sure to choose wisely.

Factions

Fallen Ones: The angels fallen from heaven. Some are pro-rebellion, and some are neutral. Their main weakness is their own state of being, having lost their wings in the fall. The scars left behind are the most sensitive part on their body, and are constantly on high protection. They, among all other demons and angels, can choose to remain invisible to the mortal eye, or reveal themselves in a human form. Or even, if they see fit, let their true nature show through.

Angels: Those who remained in heaven, and do their best to maintain order in the world. Angels come in three classes: Guardian angels, who usually dwell on Earth and are supportive of the fallen angels cause; Angels of Death, who only go to Earth to ferry souls to heaven or hell, and are divided on the opinion of the rebellion; lastly, Arch Angels, who are the highest rank of angel and fully oppose the fallen ones regaining their places in heaven.

Demons: The fallen angels who grew hopelessly corrupted by the fall and their centuries in hell. They live for nothing bu blood and chaos, usually using their invisible forms to wreak havoc on the mortal world. They don't care much for the rebellion, and try to stop the fallen angels whenever the chance arises. However, they're not organized enough to seek out a way, or to form any sort of strategy involving stopping their brethren from succeeding.

Humans: The mortal dwellers of Earth, who are more or less unaware of the conflict between the angels and demons, and blissfully so. However, should one befriend a fallen angel, or otherwise by accident, they may just find themselves caught in the middle of this war among the divine and the damned.

Valen's grey eyes watched the mortals around him conversing amongst themselves. He, an arch-angel, often came in to the little coffee shop in the Dallas suburbs to see over the humans and their daily lives. Every now and then he too would talk with some, but never for long. He avoided humans for the most part and only really came to Earth to watch for demons. Fallen angels often walked into the cafe and would see him. They would attempt to speak to the young Knight, but he would answer them with a cold shoulder and a silent tongue. Fallen angels deserved no pity and that is what he gave them.

Every now and then, Valen would see a couple walk in the door and sit down together. These couples always piqued his interest, only because they reminded him of his wife. Long ago, back in the times of kings and queens, Valen was a Knight. His wife had died in a raid and became an angel, but she fell from heaven when she accidently killed him. He could remember the times when they would go to parties in the castle, and afterwards go home and enjoy a lovely time together. Of course, now that he was an arch-angel, and she was a fallen one, he could not forgive her and see her.

Valen grew tired of people watching and left the cafe. He laid a generous amount of money for a tip before walking out. He saw many vehicles pass by, machines that amazed him, even through his years as an angel.

Jadedsol (Jade) Lynn Summers

Jade had stopped at the little coffee shop, around the corner from her apartment, for a much needed cup of caffiene. She wished that they could just give it to her straight. Her mind wandered to her exam that she had been up, all night, studying for and the two motorcycles that sat in her area of the bike shop, still needing new parts. Their owners wouldn't be happy, but they would have to deal.

She paid for her coffee and left a three dollar tip, she knew what it was like to live off of them. Then, she wandered out of the coffee shop and into the busy street.

Dear God, She prayed, silently. Help me remember what I have learned and help those around me to be understanding. I'm not sure how much I can handle today.

Jade's dark eyes studied the people in the coffee shop for a moment before she headed towards the university to tackle the dreaded chemistry test. She wast trying not to think of anything else, just the formulas. She was so focused on the material that she didn't see the young man, in front of her, and bumped into him. Her coffee flew out of the cup, she cursed herself for forgetting the lid, and all over the both of them.

"I am so sorry," she said, stunned as she tried to think of where she could buy this man some new clothes to pay for the ones she ruined.

Valen was lost in thought when a young woman bumped into him. Her coffee spilled all over his human clothes, which mattered very little to him. He wiped it away with a napkin tucked in his vest but found that it too had been soaked. There was no real point though, as when he returns to heaven his armor would be adorned. When he would return to Earth, his clothes would be fine once more.

Rather than just walk away from the human, he decided to quench his thirst for interaction. "Worry not miss, these clothes will dry eventually. Where are you going in such a hurry that you did not see me there?" In all his years watching over the humans, Valen's accent dated with him. He sounded like he was still in medieval times. He never really wanted to change this about himself.

The Arch-Angel looked upon the woman with curious eyes. She was young by human standards, and dressed in fairly dark colors. The advancements in clothing, as well as technology, fascinated the Knight to an extent. She was no doubt human by the aura that surrounded her, so he allowed his guard to remain down, though she did spill coffee on him.

Thanatos

Angel of Death

Thanatos stood on a nearby rooftop, her eyes scanning the city. She was waiting for someone that needed to be escorted. After all, people always died, and she was needed to guide them.

She closed her eyes, sending a soul that needed escorted to the other side. Her scythe glowed for a moment and she appeared next to a dead body in front of a convenience store, making sure that she remained invisible to the nearby humans. One thing in particular stood out. She approached the confused spirit and gave a gentle smile. "Greetings," she said. "Come. I shall show you to your new home."

She stopped, turning to face another spirit. This one was the spirit of the murderer. She quickly put it all together. This had been a robbery. The woman had been shot by the man who was robbing the place, and the robber had then been gunned down by the police when he refused to surrender. Her scythe glowed red, and the spirit was suddenly in chains. "For your crimes, I sentence you to Hell." She swung her scythe, slicing through him and sending him straight to Hell. She turned back to the woman. "Follow me, young one." She held up her scythe and opened a gateway to Heaven. She guided the woman through the gates and watched as she vanished to where she belonged.

She closed the gateway and left the convenience store, wandering towards a familiar presence. She changed into her human form as she walked towards Valen. She put on a smile as she stepped up next to him, her blonde hair blowing back a bit to reveal earrings in the shape of her scythe. "Hello, Valen," she said. "I haven't seen you in a while." Unlike Valen, Thanatos changed her accent often, depending on who she spoke to. At the moment, she was speaking in an accent like his, the same accent she'd had when she met him after his death and escorted him to Heaven.

Thanatos was a dear friend of Valen since his own death. She had guided him to heaven where he was given a new life as an arch-Angel. He had felt her presence earlier but paid it no mind. She had her own job, and he had his. Still, it was nice to see her.

"Thanatos, it is a pleasure to see you. It has... been a while hasn't it?" He ran a hand through his blond hair before realizing that his shirt was a mess. "Try not to mind this. I ran into this young lady. Human." He whispered the last word so that Thanatos could hear it only. She knew that he conversed with the mortals.

"Any sign of..." he trailed off. The one he spoke of was his wife. Recently, she had been following him on his ventures to Earth. He could not see her without thinking of her crime. Then again, he wasn't exactly happy about his death, even after all the years after. She had been trying to return to Heaven, and he could not approve of it.

Thanatos

Angel of Death

Thanatos gave Valen a slight nod. "It's been quite some time," she agreed. "About forty years if I recall correctly," she whispered so only he could hear. Thanatos didn't usually keep in contact with the ones she escorted to the other side, but Valen was an exception. He was one of the few she'd escorted who ended up becoming an archangel. She checked in on him every once in a while. "We really should keep in touch better. After all, you're one of my only friends. You're the only one who doesn't think I'm morbid or creepy."

She thought about his last question. Truthfully, she often spoke to Valen's wife. She was good company, and the only other one Thanatos considered a friend. But she wondered what Valen would think if she told him. She was worried that he would get angry and stop speaking to her, so she had been keeping the friendship a secret from him for centuries. "I came across her a few days ago. She asked me to tell you that she still loves you and that she is still trying to beg for your forgiveness. I said I would just so she would leave me in peace."

Jade tossed her, now empty, paper coffee cup, into a nearby trash can and tried to hide her worry. When the young man didn't seem to care that she just ruined his clothes, she felt a slight bit of relief. Then, she noticed his accent and the way he spoke and smirked.

She opened her mouth to answer but a young lady walked up to, who she could only assume was her friend. Jade looked at the time on her watch and nearly panicked. "I really am sorry about the coffee, I have a Chemistry exam, this morning and I guess I was so focused on that, I didn't really pay attention to where I was going."

Better a person, than a car, I suppose.

She mentally kicked herself for being so careless. "If there is anything I can do, please let me know." She had never felt so apologetic in her life. Spilling coffee on the innocent was not high on her 'to do list'.

Jade glanced at the girl and sighed. She was pretty, but there was something that was felt eerie about her. It bothered Jade that she couldn't pin it down.

The city was bustling with people, the noises, the smells, they were much more pleasant than what filled the depths of Hell. Torn had watched humanity grow over the years, yet, always cursed the invention of gunpowder. Because of it, swordmasters were few and far between. Why waste time and energy, when you could kill someone from hundreds of yards away?

As he walked down the warm stone of the sidewalk, Torn's mind was filled with thoughts of how the world was going downhill, ignoring the stares from the humans that passed him, due to his heterochromatic eye color. The few humans that practice the art of swordplay, they often lacked the skill, and the passion of their ancestors. Torn was beginning to lose hope in finding someone worth fighting.

However, a tug at the edge of his senses brought his gaze to a group of three, two women, one man. He was too far away to be sure, but at least one of them was an angel. He could feel it. As he walked, he kept them in his peripheral vision.

Thanatos meant well butt he knew that wasn't all of the truth. It didn't matter though. While he still loved his wife, he could not forgive her for her crime. An angel murdering a human is beyond forgiving, even if it was so long ago.

The woman who had bumped into him spoke up now. Valen couldnt help but smile at her trivial human problems. "Well Miss, I am deeply sorry about that. I can only wish you well in your exams. I however have some important things to deal with. Good day to you madam. I will see you later Thanatos." Valen had felt the presence of a demon and sure enough he could see its aura. Demons did not belong in the human world and needed to be dealt with. This demon was a powerful one though.

Torn, he should have known. Torn was a well known demon, though one that Valen had never met. Quickly, the arch angel found a spot to hide where he could return to his angel form. While he did not have wings, there was a certain holy glow around the Knight. Invisible to humans, the angel approached the demon, keeping his sword at bay as well as his emotions. "To what do I owe the pleasure, demon?"[/b) he asked in a monotone voice. The humans could not hear the angel in his form.

Jade smirked at the kid's response. He seemed a little high on the socioeconomic scale, but she wasn't about to judge him. She watched him walk away as he said he had something important to do. Jade mentally wished him well, knowing that importance was merely a matter of opinion and perhaps what he was about to do was, in fact, more important than trying to pass a chemistry exam.

Jade smiled at the girl. "Have a good day," she said, meaning every word. Then, she crossed the busy street, heading for the old chemistry building a few blocks down and around the corner.

She wasn't always nice. God knows that she had her share of rough times, but she tried to be as nice as she could, when meeting strangers, no matter the circumstances. Perhaps, she learned it from her waitress job. Or maybe, it was that message about how one never knows which strangers were actually angels. She had talked to a few people, but they didn't think that Angels would actually come down to earth. Jade did. God and his "A-team" were all that she had to cling to for the better part of her life. Even now, the big man had a big part of her heart and her life.

Jade glanced at the clock that sat on the roof of the bank. Swearing under her breath, she picked up her pace and decided that she was done being nice. She pushed through the crowd and ran all the way to her chemistry exam.
