яecent иews xxxxxStrange events have been occurring within the city... even for a realm of dreams. Travelers who would normally wake after a good night's sleep are finding themselves trapped in Oneiros; while most remain unaware of their predicament, a few have "woken up," and are beginning to understand just where they've found themselves. Such travelers are known as Sleepwalkers. Of course, those are just the lucky ones: The truly unfortunate have found themselves trapped outside the city.
xxxxxThere are consequences for travelers who don't wake up: Their real bodies, asleep in their beds, appear comatose, and no medical advance can stave off their eventual death. Their presence also has a strange effect on the Dreamworlds, as Oneiros itself begins taking steps to eliminate the unlucky travelers trapped within it, who may begin to develop strange powers of their own that only make them bigger targets. Perhaps most troubling of all: Those who can peer into the Waking World say that some of those who trapped in their dreams are still active in the real world, their bodies apparently animated by some unknown force. The History of Dreams xxxxxBefore the development of human language, and before the rise and fall of countless civilization, Mankind dreamed. Over time, as humans became more complex, their dreams became more expansive, to match their waking world. Soon, an entire cosmos had come into being, albeit one that could only be experienced while deep in slumber. This world is known simply as the Dreamlands, and while it consists of many lands, each region leads back to a central hub known as Oneiros.Oneiros xxxxxSometimes known as the City of Dreams, it hovers among icy peaks jutting upwards from an endless sea; above, a strange and gutted shape blots out part of the sky. Oneiros is divided into many districts, like any other city, but any door could lead a skilled traveler into any other part of the Dreamlands, and its streets are filled with strange beings and unusual wares. Oneiros appears to lack anything like a governing body, and no-one could be said to be "in charge," but the city has its own power, and those who would damage or claim Oneiros inevitably disappear.
xxxxxDreamers who appear in Oneiros appear in the Court of Glass, a circular plaza at the center of the city, from which streets radiate outward like the spokes of the wheel. The bustling Prism Market trades the essence of dreams as its currency, as well as fragments from the dreams of humans and artifacts from other regions in the Dreamlands. There are two massive gates leading out of Oneiros, situated on opposite ends of the city: To the East is the Gate of the Stag, made of horn and crowned with branching antlers, which leads to the Waking World, while the Gate of the Pearl lies in the West, made of ivory and surmounted by a mother-of-pearl moon, and which leads deeper into the Dreamlands.
xxxxxAbove the city lies the broken ring of The Empty Crown, a massive, apparently abandoned structure that slowly revolves over Oneiros like a rotting halo. Where the walls have been worn away, some claim to see strange rooms or even moving figures within the Crown, but no-one has ever ventured up to investigate: A strange feeling of cold, desolate dread surrounded the Empty Crown, growing stronger as it grows nearer, until any explorer is overcome by fear and is forced to flee.Inhabitants xxxxxTravelers: Normal humans from the Waking World, who often find themselves in Oneiros before their dreams take them elsewhere. Travelers in the Dreamlands appear slightly washed-out and indistinct, and often see the world around them through the lens of their own dreams: One person might think he was in his home town, while another might believe herself to be in a medieval city. A traveler vanishes from the Dreamlands when they wake up; upon waking, most will remember nothing of what occurred while they slept.
xxxxxSleepwalkers: A new phenomenon in Oneiros, these are travelers who have found themselves "stuck" in their dreams, unable to wake up. Most continue to act if they're simply in a long sleep, but a few become aware of what's going on, "waking up" to the reality of the Dreamlands. These people are called Sleepwalkers, and while they're often able to use their awareness to activate new powers within themselves, they live perilously: Oneiros is unfamiliar to them, their powers are unmastered, and the city is beginning to work against these 'disturbances.' Some Sleepwalkers are rumored to have awakened outside of Oneiros, but they're in even more danger than the rest. The bodies of most Sleepwalkers appear to be in a deep sleep or coma, and will inevitably die if they don't wake up; a few Sleepwalkers have flashes of their bodies going about their business without them.
xxxxxDenizens: Intelligent beings who inhabit Oneiros, they come in many shapes and sizes, from normal-looking humans to talking animals and animated statues. Many denizens started out as dreamforms, while others are human souls who were cut adrift in the Dreamlands and found their way to Oneiros, or who willingly chose to remain.
xxxxxDreamforms: Unintelligent "living" creatures, shaped from the Dreamland, which form its unusual ecology. They can resemble normal animals, plants, and insects, or can be strange and surreal, but all lack true intelligence; some may seem human or human-like, but possess only limited thought, like robots that are only programmed to follow certain routines. Most dreamforms in Oneiros belong to its denizens, or are created when travelers are passing through and disappear when they've moved on.The Waking World xxxxxAlso known as the Real World, the Waking World is the place where people live, work, and play; almost everyone in the Waking World visits the Dreamlands while they sleep, but only a handful are ever aware that their dreams are more than just dreams. The Waking World is the reality we live in: Once, there were a few humans who knew how to harness magic, but most of them have long died out, and those who didn't became residents of the Dreamlands. Today, the Waking World is a place of technology, without magic or the supernatural; all travelers are human, though they may take on different forms (vampires, fairies, angels, etc) in the Dreamlands.
xxxxxNote, however, that unless they have a specific power, they won't have such creatures' abilities: A "werewolf" would just be a human that looks like a werewolf, though a Sleepwalker with the ability to shapeshift could mimic a werewolf's ability to change form.

яules 1. Follow Gaia's ToS, plus the rules of the Guild. Play nice, don't powergame/godmode (this includes auto-hitting, puppeting other peoples' characters, and killing others without their permission), and feel free to PM me if you have any questions!
2. Read everything in the first three posts before filling out your profile/posting. Also, if you want to play a traveler, note that you only get ONE power. You will not know how to use it at first. While you can (with my approval) have a stronger or more varied power, this will make things much more dangerous for your character, as Oneiros will attempt to rid itself of such travelers, and ones with powerful talents will be easier targets.
3. Post at least 2-3 times a week, and let me know if you'll be disappearing for a while. Try not to leave people hanging!
4. Each post should be at least two decent paragraphs, no one-liners, and OOC should be marked as OOC. You don't need a post format, colors, or even a picture, though you can customize your posts however you like, as long as you aren't using unreadable colors or a font-size smaller than 10. Your format shouldn't take up more room than your actual post.
5. PM your completed profile to me with the title "Lay Me Down To Sleep." Profiles Profile Skeleton

Age: [optional for denizens] Sex: Male/Female Sexuality: Appearance: [LINK to a pic, anime-style preferred, no real people. Travelers may have two pics, one for their real-world appearance and one for what they look like in the Dreamlands]
History: Personality: Goal/s: [May or may not have anything to do with the Dreamlands: Could be anything from "get back to my body" or "master my power" to "form a rock band" or "talk to the girl/guy I like."]
