Everything was calm and quiet on the pack-grounds of Moonlight. Angel was sleeping with her pups, just as Zack and Ashy were walking by the river. All seemed like normal. Rayne had been reunited with her brother, and couldn't be happier. A wave of peace washed over her as she watched him sit atop the rock like a guardian, the guardian he always was when they were pups. She trotted over next to him "Shadow....I'm glad you're back." she chose to nuzzle him and lean against him on his perch. Taking her eyes to the sky, she could have sworn she saw a star twinkle at them, almost like a wink. Mother. She was around, in one way or another. She wrapped her tail around her brother as she watched it, glad that Angel could attempt to bring some of his memories back. At least some, it was a start.
And a twinkle indeed they see, as Paine was watching her children from her heaven's abode as Selene's apprentice. How did she get this lucky? Her pups were safe, happy. And she was with her mother.

Shadow had heard his sister behind him, as well as when she walked up. He did not stir, but when she was at his side, he glanced over at her with a very serene smile. "Yeah. Me too." he replied. He had taken to doing this, perching himself on a rock in the middle of the night to watch the stars, as though they contained all of the lost memories and answers he had been searching for. Angel had been able to help, but not as much as either of them had hoped. He appreciated it, but felt a little dejected that she couldn't bring all of them back. Oh well; it was okay. He hardly remembered whom both of them called 'Mother' so readily, but...he knew she was good. Everything he'd hoped, and dreamed. Suddenly, and very strangely, his hackles rose. His scythe a few meters away began to glow and tremble, as though longing to be held. It had never done this before, not since...Ow. The white space kept returning every time he tried to think about the scythe and its strange origins. What was going on? The fear was plain in his features as he looked at Rayne, scared more for her.

Instantly, Rayne sensed his change. The Scythe and it's glowing seemed to make a buzzing noise, moving almost like a compass. She noticed, too, his contemplative expression turned to a wince. Whatever was done to his mind must have been to block something very specific out, and whatever it was had something to do with the mysterious scythe he was forced to carry with him. Determined, she looked into his face and nodded, though "I'm not going anywhere" were the first words out of her mouth. She knew something had to be done to fix this, however, and she barked at Angel, gave a quiet little howl for Zack.
Naturally, Ashy was the first that bounced onto the scene with the two of them, though she saw the change in Shadow's body language and began to cower. "I...I didn't do it..." she whined, low to the ground. Zack then stood protectively over her a few moments later, just as confused as Rayne, and stared into Shadow's eyes to try and discern something; anything.
Just like everything else in Paine's existence, the little slice of peace had been destroyed. She wanted so bad to come down and comfort her 'Little Ravens', and just with the thought, she felt her spirit descend; quickly at first, then more slowly, as though she should be cautious.

Shadow looked at Rayne sternly, "N...no" he began to argue, feeling his control, which had once been rigid, slip away from him. With his control fleeting, he felt a pang for Ashy, a pang of guilt at how he couldn't have stopped her suffering, anger at himself, and in the fraction of a second it took for him to experience these emotions and for Zack to arrive on the scene, his eyes glazed over. The scythe flew to his maw, and he looked upwards hungrily, feeling something that shouldn't be there.
He stood for a moment, blindly, staring at the spot. Then, he flapped his wings a couple of times to propel him into a hover in mid-air. His maw dripped with saliva, and the whirring of the scythe further drowned out his surroundings. His eyes had long-since turned from glassy to ravenous, as they flickered across the sky, searching. His claws pulsed, his nose kept sniffing the air deeply, frantically.

Rayne held firm, staring her brother down for a moment. No, she would not leave his side. She appreciated his constant care for her - and now, it was her turn to care for him. She wouldn't run away - never again! "No, Shadow. I'm not leaving." No sooner had the words passed her lips than his scythe came zipping by, slicing the whisker off as it passed. She could have been wrong, but she might have sworn it had all the malice and bloodthirst of her father, if not more, turning towards her in her own bloodlust. It was as though contained in that scythe was the source of all malice, the bringer of all fear, the....she had to stop herself as a shudder ran through her spine. Slowly and choppily, she turned her head towards her brother once more as he, seemingly in a trance, looked up towards the sky. Her face grew hard: something was happening. She had to protect her brother. Following his gaze, she could have sworn she'd seen a shifting of the air; the slightest ripple, and glimmer. And what was that, a purple tinge? But Shadow...he was..changing. She watched him carefully, unafraid to step in had she needed to. "Shadow." she called sternly.
Zack was baffled, onlooking awkwardly. These pups were so far removed from him, Shadow such an enigma, he had no idea what to actually do. Meanwhile, Ashy continued to cower into his leg, tears seeping from her little eyes, "I'm sorrryyy...." she howled sadly. Zack turned to Rayne, unsure; he knew he had to get Ashy out of here. When she locked eyes with him for the briefest moment, he understood that she could handle things herself, and she understood - and wanted - that he needed to go to tend to the pup. With a nod, he picked up Ashy delicately, whispering comforts as he loped off, once more to the river. The pup squirmed and yelped, crying out.
It was by this point that Angel caught the commotion. Sending her mate away with the pups, she rushed to the scene, speaking quickly to Rayne, hovering in midair, "What's going on?". "I...don't know." came the distracted, worrisome reply. Rayne's full attention was on her brother. By this point, Angel had taken her eyes to the stars; her keen, divine eyes instantly spotting....Paine? Telepathically, she reached out, surprised when the analysis came back that this was indeed the pups' mother. Confusion sparkled in her eyes for a moment, before she rushed up at the other she-wolf. "I understand you want to look after your pups, but you cannot be here. Look what you are doing." Angel tipped an ear towards the winged wolves, specifically the boy. "What are you doing here, Bheannaithe Corcra Gealach?" While Angel was trying not to sound accusatory, she felt it hard to be kind with such a dangerous, tense, and disturbing situation in her pack boundaries. She didn't understand - what was her Mother up to?
As Angel rushed up towards her, Paine felt herself grow more material; more visible. The contact with a divine being seemed to link her more tightly to this world, and she looked around, ashamed. The hurt was plain in her face at the behavior of her oldest son; he seemed as though he wanted to kill her. "...What's wrong with him...?" She practically ignored Angel's question, so consumed in her grief.
