Hi there.

I haven't been on Gaia for a L-O-N-G a** time, and that's due to...well...there's no real way to get around it, so here goes.

My hubby and I have decided to end our marriage of almost 9 years.

And no, I'm not fine. But I know I will get through this.

This is the biggest thing I've ever dealt with, and although I have to fight the temptation to give into depression, I know that I will be stronger in the long run.

So my question for all of you is...(and no, your answers do not have to be about breaking up with someone)

What is the worst thing that has ever happened to you?

How did you take the news? Were you in shock? Did you flip right out? Did you pretend it wasn't happening?

How long did it take you to get over that bad situation/thing?

Do you feel that you are stronger now or do you feel more insecure?

Discuss.

wow....just wow..... im sorry tessie...... (this is Sketched....a name i havent used in a LOOOOOONG a** time......)

the only thing i can relate to that was my frist girlfriend breaking up with me (but that doesnt come CLOSE...)
i myself like to make jokes when im feeling uncomfortable or when i try to deny something..... but then again i should have seen it coming. She gave me cockamamy reasons why we should spilt up and i looked at her cause she was being incredibly hypocritical.
it took me a while (a couple of weeks.) but i became more solid and stable afterwards. and im happy though, its been more than 6 months, but im dating a new girl and im feeling pretty good.

i hope everything goes out well.....i hope your kids are ok though. they end up suffering the worse in these situations....

They only suffer if the parents act like idiots. Yes, they're sad that Daddy won't be around the house, but they like the idea of being able to call him and spend the night over at his place. Our priority is our children, first and foremost...we've made sure to let them know that this wasn't their fault, and importantly that any emotion they have in reaction to this news is okay, whether it be anger or sadness or whatever may have you. Children suffer when the parents talk badly about one another in front of their kids, or they try and make them take sides, or dismiss their feelings...as long as you keep the communication lines open, give them lots of love and support and reassure them that although things may be different, that 'different' isn't always a bad thing and that their Mom and Dad will always be there for them, they can deal with this situation much better healthier.

Thank you for the sympathy hon heart

worst thing?
They day I found out exactly how long my dad has to live.

How'd I deal?
I tell jokes, I laugh, I'm sarcastic.
At heart, I'm a realist.
I accept things for what they are, and if I can't change them, I move forward.
It's the only thing I can do.

I also try not to look inwards all that often,
as that only leads to uncomfortable things.
Like feelings.

The worst thing thas happened to me. I could name a few. Like my mom makeing the man I call father leave again, finding out I'm only here because I was the first born, or perhaps that a person I really loved betrayed me with someone eles just because she was there. All these things are bad but nothing compared to that. And to be honest I don't really deal with it. I shrug it off and go on with my life. But that is one of the main reasons I why I have the anger issues I have.

I can say this that might be of help to you. Simply because your not together anymore doesn't mean that you can't get along. It would make things a lot easier on both yourselves and your children.

I'm sorry.

As the child of parents who divorced when I was around 7, I can say that itis possible to raise children well and unscarred.

I extend my sympathies and hope you get along well.

That's exactly what we're doing. My parents divorced and it was far from pretty...there is no way I am going to disrupt my children's lives anymore than I have by revealing that their father and I are no longer together. Being civil and friendly is the logical thing to do.

Fuzzeh- Thank you for the love heart
