http://www.kitrae.net/fantasy/other_knives.htmlxxx Our Story xxxTwo hundred years ago, the great King Yullra Caesti of Nalfina was slain by the Dracon Lord Avken of the Valdorian Empire.
The Blood War, which had ravaged the two kingdoms for twenty years, came to and end with the fall of the Kingdom of Nalfina. Valdorian law quickly fell into place to the inhabitants, the humans. Free magic was no longer permitted and all Mages either submitted themselves to the Empire or were destroyed. Nalfina was reduced to a mere province of the Empire, ruled over by the Roth'kin family who had finally achieved their dreams of overtaking their kin, the Caesti. For the following centuries, they enforced the laws of the Empire. All those not loyal to the Emperor found themselves as second class citizens, reduced to slaves. Noble families not in favor with the Roth'kin were stripped of their powers and estates, sometimes finding themselves walking to the gallows. Nalfinians were stripped of their rights and work under their Draconian overlords. The who submitted their services to the Valdorian Empire work to keep the humans under control while also hunting for any Mages.
Sounds like the perfect opportunity for a hero to step in to save the day and restore peace. However, this is not that kind of story. Or, at least not the kind you may expect.
The story beings with a small group of thieves just trying to get by. They travel on the wind, going wherever adventure – and plenty of gold – take them. At the head is Leader, a young man descended from nobility whose name no longer matters. He is passionate, ready and willing to do what it takes to get to that next job. He tends to charge head first into action. Luckily, Ex-Assassin is always there to bring Leader back to reality. Trained from childhood, Ex-Assassin abandoned his clan in favor of freedom (or whatever freedom he hopes to gain). Knowledgeable in the art of killing, it always surprises people to find he has a sensitive soul. The pair would be lost, however, if not for the Archivist. A mild-mannered man, it his task to find the groups next job and to do background research on what the location may hold. He uses magic to aid the group, knowing full well the risks it cares if he is ever discovered. Leader teases him over the fact Archivist always has his nose buried in some scroll or book. Finally, the last of their company is the Recruit. He was recently picked up by Leader despite the fact he is a Dracon. Though he is a Dracon, he doesn't feel the same as many of his kind and would like to prove not all Dracon's are terrible. Ex-Assassin distrusts him and believes him to be a Empire spy in search of hiding magic users.
The next job the group has taken is to find a lost artifact hidden away in a forgotten tomb. Once there, they discover they have uncovered the tomb of King Yullra Caesti. The artifact is, in fact, the Dagger of Yullra – a magically bound weapon believed to have been forged to kill the immortal Dracon Lord Avken. The weapon could potentially free Nalfina, restore the Kingdom, and bring down the Empire. It could also fetch a mighty fine price at the right market.

xxx Story Information xxx Blood War :: A twenty year conflict between the Kingdom of Nalfina and the Valdorian Empire. Began as a rebellion placed by Ezano Roth'kin, Nalfinian King Yullra Caesti's cousin. Ezano deemed himself more qualified to rule and raised an army to challenge Caesti rule. The Nalfinian Civil War began in 491 CE ( Ceres' Era ) and lasted for two years with the Caesti beating back Roth'kin advances.
Not willing to accept defeat, Ezano turned to Nalfina's neighbor, the Valdorian Empire, and forged a secret alliance with the immortal Dracon Lord Avken. Avken had eyed the rich lands of Nalfina for many years so he agreed to assist Ezano as long as the Roth'kin submitted themselves to the Empire. Ezano agreed and Valdor declared war on Nalfina in the fall of 493 CE.
The War raged for twenty long, grueling years, until it came to it's end at the hills of Daed. During the Battle of Ama, the mighty King Yullra was struck down by Dracon Lord Avken. Led by the grieving Queen Gairiel, Nalfina submitted to unconditional surrender. The monarchy was abolished and the Caesti family were imprisoned.
That summer, in 513 CE, Queen Gairiel and five of her six chlidren, Priestess Aindira [23], Prince Andri [17], Princess Rinu of [14], Princess Akyla [8], and young Prince Eiri [5] were put to death. Her remaining child, Sindara [28] Queen of the Zeonian Islands, was not permitted to attend in fear she too would be subjected to the fate of her family.
The whereabouts of the Royal Family's burial site remains a mystery. Some speculate Ezano had their bodies burned then their ashes thrown into the harbor. Others say the bodies went missing and were buried somewhere in the Daed Hills.
Nalfina :: Formerly known as 'Kingdom of Nalfina', it has since become a province of the Valdorian Empire. It lies on the southern half of Lysar Island. It's capital is Seafole, a port city at the Gulf of Delore. It's main exports are various fruits, meats, and limestone that come out of the hills surrounding the city. The city lies east of the Ama River. Once home of the Caesti, whom were executed at the end of the Blood War.
The Dal'eh Forest lies northeast of Seafole and wraps around the Gulf to the Hills of Dal'eh outside of Fade. During the Blood War, a great battle took place against Dracons and Nalfinian soldiers who were sent to protect the port-city of Fade. The Nalfinian's were struck down in what would be later called the Dal'eh massacre. Many now believe the forest to be haunted. Because of this, the road leading through Dal'eh is in great disrepair.
The port-city of Fade has been called the 'Jewel of Nalfina'. It is relatively difficult to reach, due to being surrounded by the Dal'eh Forest and jagged hills ( Hills of Dal'eh). The city was built upon a declining hill that leads to the sea. Most of it's walls are white, made from limestone mixed with crushed seashells. Even under Valdorian rule, Fade continues to be the major site of trade and travel.
Valdorian Empire :: Based in the northern country, Valdor, the nation is composed mostly of Dracon's - weredragons. They are led by the immortal Lord Avken, whom has ruled the Empire for the last six hundred years. They were rivals of Nalfina and took their chance of conquering the region when the Roth'kin came to them for help. The Empire now controls Lysar Island and looks to take the Zeonian Islands to the south east. Capital is Olyris. Main exports are precious gems, pitch, and weaponry.
The Uglar Mountains line the western coast of Valdor, spilling over the border into Nalfina where they become the Daed Hills. North of the border, near the foot of the Uglar Mountains, is Lake Lunar. During a full moon, the bottom of the lake seems to glow. Legends say Nitia, Goddess of the Stars, went swimming in the lake and lost her dress in the water. The dress floated to the bottom where it was then torn apart by the fish. The shimmering dress spread through the lake and have been there ever since.
Dracons :: Were-dragons. Most are based on an elemental and can only use their powers when surrounded by that element. While they cannot turn into full dragons, they sprout sharp teeth, talons, and become stronger. While they cannot fly, they can see in the dark and have heightened sense. Their skin is hardier than a human's, so it takes a little more to really injure a Dracon.
They worship Ofer, God of War and Lightening. They believe Ofer to being the creator of Dracons and often depict him as a dragon. They cast down any belief in the God Flaril, deeming him to being a false God.
Mages :: Once revered in Nalfina for their abilities, they have been hunted relentlessly for the last two hundred years. In the past, Mages collected their magic from reading scrolls and absorbing it's knowledge. Only those born with the Gift could achieve this. Most focus on one Art - white or black magic - though there are some who dabble in both. The Masters (highest rank a Mage could achieve) once lived in the Temple of Flaril, God of Light, Fire, and Life in the port city of Fade. Mages are heavily devoted to Flaril, whom is believed to have given the Mages the Gift. The easiest way to spot a Mage is by the symbol of a spiraled sun which most wear on their person
After the War, the Empire declared all practice of magic outlawed and the worship of Flaril was heresy. Mages who resisted were killed, but not before being tortured for the whereabouts of other Mages. Some, very few, turned themselves over to the Empire and swore loyalty. Those Mages soon found themselves as trackers, hunting down others of their kind. They are most often referred to as Valdorian Wolves.
RESTRICTIONS Concerning Dracons ::
They cannot fly. They have no wings.
When they aren't changed, they look mostly human. Their fingernails are a bit sharper as well as their teeth. They also have excellent eye sight in the dark.
About elements. Most are based around certain elements (Light, Dark, Earth, Fire, Wind, Water). They have a certain control over said element. Example: A Earth Dracon can make rocks and boulders move. If they are out of their element [Water Dracon in a volcano], they have a difficult time using their powers.

Last Time....When we last saw our heroes, a group of bandits had just rode up to meet them. After a brief scuffle, the bandits were killed - save for the leader who ran away with his tail tucked firmly between his legs. Damon, overtaken by what he had just done, ran back into the cave to cry. Lysander ordered the bodies to be buried, leaving Gilan and Eiri to the task. In the cave, Lysander and Damon talked for a while and Damon felt better. Outside, it was soon discovered that one of the bandits - one Eiri /thought/ he had killed - was missing. As Lysander and Damon emerged from the cave, the former assassin confirmed this. Suddenly, an arrow flew from the sparse tree line. Damon was hit with an arrow through his arm and he was quickly taken back into the cave by Lysander to be treated. Eiri healed the man but quickly felt lightheaded and weak from using so much magic. Meanwhile, Lysander ran back outside to join Gilan. The trees were silent and no more arrows flew from it. Gilan offered to go look, waiting for a reply from their leader, Lysander....

Lysander looked around, "It looks safe to... we should take this chance to get out of here... Damon is hurt and Eiri isn't doing so well... I don't think it would be wise ti fight on... with just the two of us who knows what can happen." he stated. He then looked at Gilan, "So... do you mind carrying Eiri? I don't think he can get far with the state he is in... and I think he is warming up to you... I'll take care of Damon," he said and turned to walked back to the cave.
Once in the cave, Lysander walk over to Damon, "Come on big guy... time to get going..." he said and helped him up. "How are you feeling? Weak? Lightheaded?" he asked sounding worried. He no longer cared about his own injuries and cared more about the people that have be traveling with him for a long time.

Gilan Erthe Gilan nodded slowly, "I can carry him...but he better not freak out. Even if he has started to warm up, that doesn't mean he won't be frightened or angry when he hears that I will be carrying him..."Gilan mused, than smiled, "I've decided that, a reaction would actually be rather funny" he said, turning and following Lysander to the cave.
Gilan knelt by Eiri "I will be carrying you...I hope this isn't too much of a problem" he added, watching the male attentatively ((OOC: sorry its so short, at work so I cant spend a lot of time on this post and its just the re-intro lol, promise they will be longer in the future))

___ Eiri Journ ___ Eiri was resting against the cave wall next to Damon when the others came in. He opened his eyes, willing the dizziness to go away as he caught eyes with the Dracon. 'Carried...?' He thought with distain. It must have been Lysander's idea; only he would suggest something so ridiculous. Just like the stint from earlier when he offered to carry Eiri. The fool... He should worry more about himself than others. It was insulting really, to ask whether he had to be carried. It was like Lysander didn't trust him enough to carry his own weight in the group. That wasn't the case but there were times where he wondered. Exactly what was he doing to contribute to the rest of them? He couldn't heal half as well as a Mage should; his fighting skills weren't nearly as impressive as Damon's; he wasn't a leader like Lysander or as strong as Gilan. All he could do was read books in forgotten languages... Eiri frowned at the thought. Well, that would soon end. The dark haired Mage shook his head. "I'm well enough to walk on my own." He replied shortly. He shifted, using the wall to stand. The world around him suddenly began to spin and the ground seemed to tilt as a wave of dizziness washed over him. Eiri managed two steps before he nearly collapsed, catching himself on a knee. He felt utterly exhausted and sick, a clear sign that he had used too much magic. His face was pale and beads of sweat began to form on his brow as he panted softly. 'Dammit...'

Gilan Erthe "Very well" Gilan said with a sigh, he stepped back so Eiri could demonstrate just how well he could walk. He restrained a laugh of amusement when Eiri fell. It would do no good to appear mocking to someone who wasn't too sure of him yet. "I will make a deal with you Eiri" he said, lifting Eiri back to his feet and supporting him as he stood, "you allow me to carry you today because you seriously need it, and. When a time comes when I am the one who can't walk, you carry me, that way neither of us is belittled or embarrassed, how does that sound?"
Gilan went silent after his little request, his eyes watched Eiri's face hopefully, this would be a step in the right direction and he wanted Eiri to agree.

___ Eiri Journ ___ Eiri felt the tips of his ears burn as he felt eyes upon him. He knew how it looked, after he had so stubbornly declared he could walk on his own. It was stupid and embarrassing. There was no telling what Lysander and Damon thought. He didn't look at Gilan but didn't refuse his help when the Dracon helped him to his feet. He was too focused on not falling down again. The cave seemed to slowly tilt to the right and he closed his eyes to will the nausea away. The Dracon's words were not lost on him, however. Once he thought his stomach was settled, Eiri reopened his eyes to finally look at the man. “... You'll let me carry you next time? Truly?” He asked, half expecting Gilan to burst out laughing and say no. When he didn't, the Mage let out a resigned sigh and nodded. “It's a deal then. But only until we reach another place to rest!”

Damon looked up to Lysander as he approached him. He was in a lot of pain, the arrow had driven deep into his arm, he wouldn't be out of commission but fighting would take a good damn bit of effort and he would be limited to one hand. He sighed, he couldn't believe he had let his guard down lie that. This time it was him but next time it could be one of the others, or even more horrifying Lysander. He grimaced and shook his head at the thought. He did not want to think of such things, he couldn't bare it. "I...I am fine", he said trying to keep his voice level and fight through the pain as the other helped him up. He Looked at the other his eyes starring deeply into the others. "I'm so glad you are not hurt, I could not bare it if that arrow had hit you". He smiled, very briefly, and tucked one of Lysanders out of place hairs away. "No I'm not dizzy or anything, just a minor amount of pain, he said grimacing as he pulled his arm against his chest. He quickly tore off a bit of fabric from his Bundle and made a sling for his arm. "there He said", I'm all better". As he looked at the other his mind swam with all things he wanted to do in that moment. He wanted to embrace him, to feel his body against his and know that the other was completely safe. He glanced the other over, He had minor injuries but nothing but scrapes, nothing to really worry about. He thought back to the worry in Lysanders face, maybe it meant he returned his feelings after all. though they had talked about it before nothing was really made clear and he did not want to assume he meant anything more then what was said. And in this moment that is also how he felt. He ignored the impulses in his head and pushed back the quiver in his arm, the quiver of his body longing to pull the other against him. "Now shall we head out before they come back", he said a hint of smile appearing in his lips.

Gilan Erthe Gilan smiled in relief "yes, deal. Now, why don't you get on my back? I will piggy back you to our next rest stop" Gilan turned his back to Eiri and knelt down.
"Lysander, we're ready. How is Damon?" Gilan asked, impatient to get moving. Once Eiri was up, he straightened and stepped outside, "its quite nice, aside from the recent attack" he mused.

Lysander frowned and wrapped his arm around Damon's waist to support him, "I wont take no for an answer... you just got badly injured... I'm pretty sure you don't have the strengths to walk. Even if Eiri has slightly healed it, I don't want to take any chances... so please just let me help you..." he said and looked at Damon. He wanted to help the other, he then looked over at Gilan and nodded, "We are ready," he said.
He walked out of the cave holding Damon and supporting him, "Lets head to the village near here," he stated and walked behind Gilan and Eiri. He didn't want to walk too quickly, he figured walking at a normal pace would be better for Damon, "Tell me if you start feeling a lot of pain okay? You too Eiri... don't hide things from me okay?"

___ Eiri Journ ___ Eiri frowned lightly but climbed onto Gilan's back. Much as he had with Damon, his grip tightened slightly when the man stood. “Don't you dare drop me.” He muttered, feeling the tips of his ears still warm from being put into this humiliating situation. It was ridiculous and he blamed Lysander entirely for it. He felt better not being on his feet but his head still hurt. Overusing magic always had dire consequences. This was minor and, had he been using magic since maturity, he wouldn't even feel half as bad. Even though Mages were still in hiding, there were some who refused to hide their abilities. Eiri wondered if he could one day use magic as freely as other did. He hummed at Gilan's musings and turned to look at Lysander. The teal-haired man was helping Damon walk, indicating the man must still be feeling pain. Eiri frowned lightly. If only he was more skilled with Healing, he could have closed that wound. Perhaps once he felt better, he could try again. “I told you, I'm fine. Just used too much, that's all.” He replied to Lysander. As they began moving again, Eiri turned his head away from it all and pressed his forehead against the back of Gilan's shoulder. Watching things move made his stomach twist and the last thing he wanted was to be sick all over Gilan. His eyes slipped closed as he focused on just the motions the Dracon made when he moved. It was almost hypnotic and comforting...

Gilan Erthe Gilan chuckled at Eiri's statement, "relax, I won't drop you" he hummed, still laughing slightly. He listened to Lysanders instructions and turned to begin walking in the direction of the village Lysander pointed out. Gilan had studied their map at length so he would know where they were at all times. As he walked he focussed on the feel of Eiri's weight on his back. Dracons, while social among their own kind weren't very physical creatures, they didn't hug or physically comfort each other very often, and the proximity of the male on his back was strange but very nice. Gilan smiled at the thought and tightened his arms around Eiri's legs as he walked.
As they trekked on Gilan began humming quietly, the tune of an old hymn Dracon's often sang to their god Ofer...
