So like several others I haven't visited this guild for a while. I graduated from school about a year ago now and making boxed lunches wasn't necessary anymore, however my boyfriend recently got a new job and I'd like to make healthy, tasty, creative lunches for him.
My boxes in the past have always been fairly small, as I was a student, not that active and not that big. He's a construction worker, I'm trying to figure out any ideas to make Bento boxes practical and exciting for him.
Recipe ideas and techniques would both be much appreciated. Also, as if this wasn't complicated enough the boxes can have pork or beef in them, just poultry and fish.
Any ideas would be amazing...

Commendable that youd go out go your way to make lunchboxes for him, its really cool that hes excited by the idea of bento boxes too. If youll pardon my asking what kind of construction work does he do? My dads a painter (for houses and such) and lots of times his hands are filthy even when he goes to eat lunch - not really the best for eating onigiri or something. Plus he may not want to eat something with chopsticks infront of the other guys during lunchtime.... depends on his situ.

He's an electrician, they have running water at their current site. His group seems pretty cool with most things, I think they all wish someone would make them lunch. As for chopsticks just cause its bento doesn't rule out just using a fork if chop sticks are a problem.

I'm pretty sure you'll want to use some of the larger bentos and/or non-traditional ones for your bf, if you don't already have any. Otherwise you'll just end up having to prepare multiple small ones, as well as him toting them around.
Grilled, seared, baked, or pan fried fish or chicken usually hold up well. I mostly make non-Japanese food for my bf and myself, with lots of little prep ingredients. Cherry tomatoes, baby carrots, apple slices, Clementine/tangerines, eggs.
Salads, pasta, sandwiches, quesadillas, wraps. My sister made turkey lasagna the other day and that travels well too. He has access to water but a fridge and/or microwave can greatly change your variety
