Welcome! I decided to make a novel thread this year, although mine will likely be more of a keeping-track-of-progress thread than an actual novel-posting thread. Let me know what you think, or if anything seems confusing/weird/anything else. XD

I plan on working on a variety of projects this summer, and I will probably post about any and all of those, but my primary aim is to finish Ripples Under the Surface (title subject to change), which is the sequel to Reasons Undisclosed (circa SuWriMos 07). I also plan on completely re-writing several sections of Reasons Undisclosed and heavily editing the rest of it, as there are a lot of incongruities, due to my changing things midway through the draft.

Summary of Reasons Undisclosed:

Four teenagers are targeted by an agency that is searching for young people who demonstrate less than usual abilities. After escaping from their abductors, they meet several other people with unusual abilities and the group of near-strangers must band together in order to survive.

Summary of Ripples Under the Surface:

Ten years have passed since their abduction, and as they moved on with their lives, the group has had to come to terms with and try to forget their trauma.

When the group realizes that their abductor is out of jail and responsible for the murder of a sixteen-year-old boy, they have to join together again to ensure the safety of themselves and several newly endangered teenagers.

Characters

Reasons Undisclosed:

Chris Kleid: Eighteen years old, is an empath and a high school senior. He holds a second degree black belt in Kung Fu and is on the school's cross country team. Planning to study either pre-med or public safety at university the up-coming autumn.

Rose Anderson: Sixteen years old, sophomore in high school, is precognizant. Writes for the school newspaper and is the pianist in the school's jazz band and plays keyboard in a garage band.

Anna Martin: Eighteen years old, senior in high school, can sense the motivations behind people's actions. Plans on studying engineering at UCLA after finishing high school.

Emily Follett: Seventeen years old, high school junior. Can see strong memories and thoughts of people when she touches an object that they have had contact with (simplified explanation for the sake of space here). Co-captain of the cheer leading squad and dedicated member of the gymnastics team.

Lance (Who I apparently gave no last name the entire way through the first novel?!): Seventeen years old, foster child, junior in high school. Is precognizant, and his visions are sometimes random and other times triggered by touching emotionally "loaded" objects. As the visions became more intense and uncontrollable in his early teenage years, he began to lose his eyesight, eventually going blind.

Melinda "Melli" Neinhardt: Thirteen years old, foster child, hears strong thoughts about her or affecting her and her family/friends. These come in uncontrollable bursts, like Rose's or Lance's visions.

Logan Dillard: Head of the operation to gain control over youth with powers. 47 years old. Logan is a very cruel and power-hungry man, and has no qualms about gaining success by any means necessary.

Alan Bolton: Works for Logan. Spent years helping Logan to gather information on psychically powered teenagers and track them down, but does not have the same cruel intentions as Logan. He would like the fame and power that come with controlling these teenagers' powers, but does not want to do it at the expense of the young peoples' lives.

Ripples Under the Surface:

New Characters:

Matthew (No last name in draft--check outlines?): Seventeen years old, junior in high school, best friend to Jason. Can sense strong memories and feelings associated with a particular place or object.

Jason: Seventeen years old, junior in high school, precognizant. Was murdered by Logan Dillard, who has been released from prison.

Updates to Recurring Characters:

Chris: Ended up studying pre-med and then becoming a medical examiner. The morgue is the one place where he feels that he can truly be away from the chaos of everyone's emotions. Married to Rose.

Rose: Journalist, married to Chris. Still living in their hometown, despite the unpleasant memories.

Emily: Police officer outside of Philadelphia (okay, a logical question here would be why do I have such a specific location for her and for a few select scenes, and then really vague locations for everyone else?).

Anna: Assistant professor of biology at a university in the crew's original hometown. Long-distance dating Lance.

Melli: Grad student, studying __________.

(Okay, I will finish these later. I'm getting sleeeeeepy.)

I'm currently going through the draft of the first novel in the series, and using an adapted (and reversed) version of the "notecard method" to figure out what characters, plot elements, etc. I have.

I realized that one character completely changes power (and personality lololol) halfway through the book, another character's name changes twice, there's one villain who is only mentioned once in passing, and several scenes that I meant to write, but apparently never did.

So basically, I'm taking post it notes and writing a brief summary of each scene (both those written and those not-yet-written) and adding in things like the changes/updates that have to happen, and then I'm using my desk surface to arrange and rearrange the post-its and figure out how all of the pieces fit together. Here's hoping that this will help things along, and get me ready to start tomorrow night.
