Richard is a charming and devoted individual. Not only is he dedicated to the country of Windor, but he's also devoted to the neighboring countries of Strahta and Fendel. He's a fiercely loyal friend, but he has the tendency to rely on his best friend, Asbel, for help. That doesn't mean he's helpless; on the contrary, Richard is very capable of taking care of himself. He just knows that if he tries to handle a serious problem on his own, he'll end up getting into a lot of trouble.

Richard has always been the sole heir of Windor's throne, having no siblings to compete with. However, that didn't mean that things were smooth for him. His uncle, Cedric, was always plotting to gain control of the throne. He would often hire assassins to get rid of Richard, but his guards would take care of them. When he was ten or eleven, he visited the small town of Lhant on his father's orders, where he met Asbel, his younger brother Hubert, their friend Cheria, and an amnesiac who Asbel had named Sophie. At first, like always, he only assumed they wanted to be his friends because he was the prince, unaware that the four didn't even know who he was at first. It wasn't until his mentor, Bryce, tried to assassinate him that his identity as prince was discovered to Asbel and Sophie. He stood by while the two fought Bryce off, but the three kids ended up falling over the cliff and onto the beach below. They were saved somehow, though. The following day, when they reached the meadow after spending all night trying to ascend the cliff, the three made a friendship pact on the tree, promising to be friends forever.
When they were escorted back to Lhant, Richard stood up for Asbel when the Lord of Lhant, Asbel's father, blamed Asbel for Richard's near death. Of course, he couldn't prevent Asbel from being grounded, but he could stop him from being punished more severely. He left Lhant immediately, having heard that his father, the king, had grown seriously ill. Not even two days had passed before he was informed Asbel was in the capital city of Barona, and he met him at the Valkines Cryus square. He, Asbel, Sophie, and Cheria then left Barona to visit Richard's special place. It was there he informed them that his father had been poisoned, and confided in them that his dream was to help make a world where there was no war or suffering. At the time, he didn't know it was his uncle who tried to have him killed in the passed and who poisoned his father.
That night, he snuck out of the palace by using a hidden passage he had told the others about to meet them and hang out with them some more before they returned to Lhant. But, he had been poisoned as well, and he never made it to the Royal Sanctuary. Unbeknownst to him, Asbel and the others had already come to find him. He was unconscious when they did, but when he woke up, he found that Asbel, Hubert, and Cheria were injured and unconscious. Richard was confronted by an orb of dark energy that promised him the power to make his dream of no war and suffering come true. When he awoke the next morning, he heard that Sophie had been killed in the catacombs, but the others had been spared.
Years passed since, and his power the dark being gave him when they fused grew and grew. It wasn't until he was poisoned by his uncle again that he knew he had to leave Barona. His intent was to find Asbel for help, but he grew tired and collapsed in the catacombs again. Thankfully, Asbel was there to save him this time. Along with Sophie! Or, who they suspected to be Sophie. They traveled to Gralesyde to recruit his uncle, the duke, for help in reclaiming the throne. They succeeded, but at a terrible price. The being that fused with Richard grew stronger the more Richard came to resent Cedric and his forces, and completely took over the young king's mind. He became an enemy of his friends for what seemed like forever.
It all ended, though, when Asbel and the others came to his rescue some time later. Asbel absorbed the power of the dark being, Lambda, who agreed to see the good in the world through Asbel. Naturally, Richard remains concerned, having full experience with Lambda's true power, but for now, he will trust Lambda, as well as Asbel's decision. It's all he can do, but he is more than ready to fight for Asbel if Lambda takes control again, just as Asbel once did for him. Now, Richard spends his days making up for the trouble he caused to all three countries by aiding in battles against Nova monsters that spawned because of his mistakes.
