Yu is an isolated kid, though he's opened up a lot. He's still, unfortunately, depressed as a sort of lag of the events that transpired, but he's become more accepting and social--especially among his friends. Yu doesn't seem very strong, and he really has no physical strength whatsoever. But, what he lacks in strength he makes up for in bravery.

Yu's mother used to force him to attend cram school, which left him with no time for his friends or himself. This caused him to become depressed and he carried a utility knife with him which was for suicidal and/or homicidal purposes. He eventually fought with his mother and ran off to Haruka's to hide. It was there he met the man Karasu, who Haruka had been hiding in the spare room on the second floor. Karasu started taunting Yu, which only made the kid angry with him and created a rivalry. He attempted to stay away from whatever Haruka and Karasu were involved in, though he grew more and more jealous whenever he thought about them, thinking Karasu was just some pervert.
He got involved so he could protect Haruka, and prove to Karasu he wasn't weak. But, compared to Karasu and Yu's friend, Yu realized just how weak he was. He decided that he would keep going to cram school because of his lack of talents. However, he got sucked into the situation with Haruka fully and did his best to help her. It was a while before he found out Karasu was Yu in the future, though he didn't want to believe it; especially after learning that in all his futures, Haruka never made it to the end with him. In Karasu's future, Haruka sacrificed herself to save her time and in Noein's, who was another Yu from a different dimension, he watched Haruka burn in a car explosion.
However, Yu stayed strong and swore to protect Haruka however he could. This led to him "disowning" Noein and led to the other's destruction. After that, things returned to normal. Well, as normal as they could for him and his friends. He studies in cram school so he can attend the junior high in Tokyo while also making sure to spend time with Haruka and his friends as much as he can.
