Introduction The sky shimmered in the summer breeze as Granny and Don Quixote emerged from the library. The air was warm and sticky, and the calls of birds could be heard in the distance. "Splendid day, is it not, my lady?" said Don Quixote as he looked out on the abandoned city. "Tis the land of adventures! I'll bet there's a dragon right around that corner, waiting to be slain by a heroic knight such as myself! Look, there's one now!" Granny smiled patiently at Don Quixote, not wanting to upset the proud knight, and answered gently. "Are you sure? It seems to me that it is a windmill, and there is some sign or other about miniature golf, whatever that is." "So it is not a dragon?" the knight said with a frown. "I know I have been wrong in the past, but I really had this feeling... Oh! Nevermind! There is all the time in the world in this glorious new land!" He paused for a moment and began again. "You may not believe this, but most people at home thought me a foolish old man." "Oh, really?" said Granny, with as much fake surprise in her voice as she could muster. "Yes, indeed. It is a sad thing, but I want to prove my worth to these young people by doing brave and daring deeds." Granny nodded. "I know what you mean. No one takes me very seriously anymore either." In the distance, both could see what looked like Tom Sawyer and Alice, trying to shove a white rabbit into a shoe box. "These belligerent youths are becoming sillier and sillier by the moment," Dr. Van Helsing remarked as he joined Granny and Don Quixote. Both nodded in agreement, and the professor continued. "I've been scouting out the area, trying to find a safe place to reside while we sort out this strange situation. A few new acquaintances and I have just recently stumbled across a haven for the wise and aged people in this new land, if you care to join us." The professor motioned towards a sunny yellow building with porch swings and rocking chairs located by the entry way, and neat shrubberies adorning the freshly washed windows of the guest rooms. In front of the building was a friendly sign that read, "NAME GOES HERE." "A dragon!" the knight exclaimed, drawing his sword in his excitement. "Sorry, deary," Granny replied. "It's a nursing home, not a dragon. But, this may prove to be a more exciting adventure than a dragon. And, do, please put that sword away. It worries me." Don Quixote put the sword back in its sheath, and Dr. Van Helsing led the pair to the front of the establishment. Greeting the trio at the door was a round, lusty woman, Alison; a fat, drunken old knight, John Falstaff; a sleepy looking man from colonial America, Rip Van Winkle; and a malevolent old maid, Ms. Havisham. Together, this strange band of senior citizens entered the nursing home to embrace their new destinies. They were greeted by caring nurses, delicious tapioca pudding, medicine galore, and best of all, no children. What was in store for these brave geriatric patients? Join us and find out!

Remember that you are not all powerful, and that you have to work together with your fellow guests to make the story happen. - Do not quote any post on the first page of this thread. - Listen to the staff of this room. If they tell you that something that you are doing is inappropriate, listen to them. - In the case of contests or games involving posting, bumps or emoticons will not count as valid attempts. Also, do not spam the thread. Spam belongs on your cafeteria tray. - Do not use profanity or inappropriate language. Our old folks don't take too kindly to bad manners. - Do not cyber in our home. About the characterMs. Havisham is the lonely antagonist from Charles Dickens's Great Expectations. Her fiance jilted her in her youth, and she never quite recovered. In her mind, time stopped at her wedding, though everything seems to age and decay around her. Now, she is lonely, manipulative, and vindictive, harboring a general hatred and distrust of all men. As intelligent as he is mad, Don Quixote starts out as an absurd and isolated figure and ends up as a pitiable and lovable old man whose strength and wisdom have failed him. King and Queen Contest
Welcome to our annual avatar contest! As with each room, there are two parallel contests to determine the King and Queen. This isn't your usual tektek contest. In fact, the only avatars that matter are the ones that you're wearing! If you win from your category and are crowned King or Queen of the Elderly, your entry will move on and automatically be entered in the contest to determine the King and Queen of Books! If you would like to enter, PM me, LilChibiusa, with the subject-line "Avatar Contest." I will save a picture of your avatar, and post it in the list of entries. Then, I will PM you back letting you know that you have been entered and may change your avatar if you wish. Alternately, you can send me a screenshot that you have already uploaded to your own photo account, but you have to be wearing that same avatar when you send it to me just to keep things fair. You can go for a old person theme, a literary theme, or anything else you think fits this room. Just be creative!
Rules
- All submissions must be in before 5AM Central/6AM Eastern on Saturday morning. Afterwards, the voting will begin.
- You may only enter the King OR the Queen category, not both.
- You may only enter an avatar contest in one room. If you enter an avatar contest in another room, you may not participate in the one in this room. If you are caught doing this, you will be disqualified.
- Advertising your entry is not allowed. If you are caught begging for votes either via a thread of your making or through PMs, you will be disqualified.

If your submission is voted to be the best, you'll win cool prizes! PM all entries to Da-ku-chan. All entries must be your own work, and you must have your entry submitted by 1:00 PM Central on Sunday to be eligible for prizes. (We like all artwork, but only one piece may be entered into the contest per person.)
