i have an idea on why ponies names match thire cutie marks. what if thire parntes briffly see an imge of thire cutie mark but always forget it. they brifly see the feture. and sorry for the bad spelling.

ehh, I don't know how it happens... but now that I think about it... maybe they find out something about their special talent when they are born. Whatever that is, it's what the parents name them.
However, I can see how Applejack got her name without her talent being recognized, since everypony in that family had something to do with apples.
Pinkie got her name from being pink I guess. The name Pinkie Pie never had anything to do with partying (it does now :3).
Rainbow probably got her name from her dad (whom probably has a similar special talent).
As for the other 3 you got me.

Yah it's not perfect but just a thought. Since you never see a pony named shooting star but has a candy makeing cutie mark.
