The wind was unseasonably gusty, clouds scattered across the sky, it wasn't the best of conditions the white stallion had thought to fly in. Shaking his white mane out, he looked much like a white cloud moving amongst those that were grey. Thunder crackled along the thickest of the clouds as lightening snaked wildly. Sinking away from the highest of his flight, it wasn't low enough. A crack of lightening snaked its way from the clouds and clipped the stallion's wing. Well, that was the highlight of his day! A cry escaped his muzzle as he headed groundwards.

The ground came at a rush as smoke rose from the blackened feathers that had once been attached to his wing. Other feathers drift from their places and cascaded down like snow/ Alabaster landed upon the ground in a heap of limbs and blackened feathers. This messenger wasn't going to be flying for a but. Rolling to his side, the white stallion laid crumpled on the earth as the rain started to fall. He felt alright besides the searing pain on his wing and side that he happened to land upon. Truly wasn't his day, even with the message that he had to deliver for someone. And Alabaster was going to make sure that this message was delivered, even if he had to walk the whole way.

Headed back from some time in the water Oota felt calm, relaxed and satisfied. Though she had realised some time ago that she couldn't learn anything more within the water she still kept to the hobby. A lifetime spend in it had made it her happy place, the place to think, if only she was a nova again she would live, breath and sleep in the bodies of water around Dreamers glass and Moonlight. Unfortunately that wasn't fates plan for her and she could not breath in it, and sleeping there wouldn't be a wise choice.

It did keep her fit though, pushing against the currents however calm strengthened her muscles and she had a lean but well supported form to show for it. What would she do with the rest of her day? Perhaps she should eat? But if she slept she could return to the water... maybe even see him.

Lost in her thoughts she almost bypassed the smoke drifting from nearby till the scent reached her, the mare thinking it was her desire for food arising. When she turned to investigate what food planned to disrupt her plans she saw it and curious as a cat she trotted over, the winds caught at her wings but she ignored it and folded all four down to her side. Reaching the crumbled form she tilted her head at what she thought had to be another star and typical Oota didn't really consider her words before blurting them out.

"Your malting. Didn't you want those feathers? I don't blame you wings are a butt." Which was exactly how she felt, her wings had only hindered her in the water and she had found no use in them beside that.

The world came back to him in patches, a vision here and a voice there. Limbs kicking at the air before digging into the ground beneath him, the white stallion rose hastily, turning rather quickly as well, he nearly knocking himself back to the ground. Shaking his grass covered and greatly tangled mane out, Alabaster watched the blurring form of the mare that was close by. "Without my wings, I can not fly. A raven that can't fly is doomed to death." he slurred before righting himself as everything came back into focus.

"If I had as many wings as you did, I wouldn't worry about a few feathers." Turning more gently he looked at the charred wing tips and the white feathers that laid scattered across the ground. Well, this was certainly troubling. Folding his wings to his side, knowing well that he couldn't fly with a half charred wing, he looked around. "Where have I fallen? How far is it to the mountain realms?"

Everything didn't feel right, he should have been close to a river or some body of water. was his internal compass going wacky again? Was there a fault line under the ground that was throwing him off? Alabaster stared blankly at the mare, only now really getting a good look at her. "Who are you?"

Resetting her head to it's usual position she blinked at the stallion as soon as he righted himself, she didn't understand the raven bit... nor really the flying. She knew off flying, and sometimes saw other blips in the sky out of the corner of her eyes but if hadn't ever really seemed all that great to her. Though at his remark about her wings she did turn to peer at her four, thats right not everyone had four, well lucky him she bet two was a lot easier to swim with."I'm Oota, who are you?" It wasn't aggressive more like a child repeating a question, thought she'd held adult hooves for quite some time her mentality hadn't socialized enough to alter.

Then she looked around them, where were they, good question. She hadn't wandered too far from the herd for her swim today, but hadn't gotten back yet... she'd only just left the water bed tucked behind those tree's. So she made an educated guess "I reckon we're just outside my mums herd, Dreamers glass I think she said there was a mountain one of the many relatives I supposedly have ran off to over... hmm.." Looking around again she kinda pointed up and to the left "Over there... maybe." Not being sure she didn't want to full commit to that.

As her mind wouldn't stop thinking about it she had to ask, if not just to satisfy her own curiosity, whether it made her look dumb or not. "Whats a raven? I mean apart from you, what are you?" Which probably wasn't the best way to ask but her mind had a habit of thinking these things and most of the time she made no effort to change how they were spoken out loud.

Alabaster watched the mare as she took looked around before pointing off into some direction that was to her left. Looking that way, he squinted to see if he could see anything, but all there was, was trees and dirt from this level. He wished he could use his wings to get a better look, but just stretching out his right wing made him flinch and fold it back to his side. "Alabaster, guess it was because I am so white." he gave an uncaring shrug as he moved a couple steps, the pale colored ribbons on his legs dragged the ground.

"So this is close to the Dreamer's Glass herd?" While it was more a question to himself, he spoke it aloud for all the hear, his pale blue gaze headed skyward to see if he could find just where he was, but the clouds over head had gathered and blotted out what was above. "I must have taken a wrong turn somewhere, just perfect." Alabaster muttered wandering, eye still towards the sky. "And this storm ain't making things any better.'

Preoccupied by his own thoughts, he almost didn't hear the questions that came in his direction. "I am just your average Lyra. But before my fall from the dream space. I was known as a white raven, a messenger of summer's end and the coming of great hardship." He looked towards the mare, Oota she had called herself. "Now I just take messages from place to place. But I can still tell when a winter is going to last longer then usual. These wings start to ache when the cold comes." While it wasn't exactly true about how he could tell it was going to be a long winter, it was more a gut feeling and the lack of supplies, as he always burned through everything quickly, Alabaster didn't see the need to be too truthful.

The first comment flew straight over her head, she didn't even know what her own name meant nor had shown interest in finding out. "Should be! Unless I'm lost too... oh I hope I'm not lost too..." She didn't like that idea but giving it a bit of thought she probably wouldn't mind. No one would miss her she reckoned and everywhere had water. As the rain continued to fall she closed her eyes for a few moments and enjoyed the cool sensation of it landing on her and sliding down her form. Needless to say she liked rain, and combining that with her familiarity with the route she'd taken she was pretty confident that she actually wasn't lost. "Nah I'm not lost, might be fun to get lost though." She smiled and decided to entertain the thought later maybe tomorrow on another trip.

Most of the rest of what he said flew over her head too, she caught and understood parts, she was aware that not all stars where born here. Oota's own mother had fallen though she hadn't shared even as much as this Alabaster has. Not that the mare actually spent enough time in her own herd lands let alone with her family or mother to find things out. She did have a question though "Guess your sense doesn't work on storms huh?" It seemed odd to have that kinda ability but it only apply to a season, but then so far she'd seen seasons all lasted about the same. So long as it wasn't a long summer she didn't mind, she was more likely to see her water horse in chill or wet weather... mind you Ice would kinda dampen her chances.... Good thing they were leaving winter behind them now!

Alabaster watched the mare a moment as she stood there, letting the rain fall. Rain? Glancing up once again, it was indeed raining and it was washing the black off his wing, though the grey beneath stuck out against the white. The ground started to grow muddy, making the ribbons around his legs turn brown and yucky. The mare gave a look when she mentioned about being lost as well, but then admitted that she was not lost. A small grin tugged at his muzzle as it was mentioned about how it could be fun to be lost.

I don't normally get lost, nor do I get struck by lightening and fall to the ground in mid flight." Alabaster snorted shaking the water from his coat. "Why don't you go up there and take a look around. Those wings of yours look more steady then mine." he pointed towards her wings then look towards the sky.

"There's always a first for everything eh?" She giggled, doing things for the first time was usually excited yet daunting but when he mentioned her flight the cheer drained off her face and she peered once again to her wings.

"Uhm" She tried to think of a good excuse as to why not when in reality she had just never bothered, wasn't there something she could say to avoid spilling that fact? "You already got struck by lightning, if I go up I will too, plus I wouldn't even know what to look for!" She nodded pretty satisfied with that, it was flimsy and she was sure there were holes but it was the best she could do on the spot.

Alabaster frowned a bit when Oota mentioned being hit by lightening that there might be a chance that she would as well. Perhaps that was true, but still, the risk might have been worth it? "Could always look and see if you could make out any mountains." he stated off handedly not really moving from where he stood. "That would be something to start with." Shaking his head, Alabaster stretched his own wings out at his sides, his right wing looking like someone had taken fire to it with all the missing and damaged feathers.

"I still have one good wing, I might be able to get off the ground enough to see over the trees. At least." He wasn't exactly waiting for any answers from Oota, nor any reaction to wanting to fly up herself or not. She had made it clear that the lightening was the most dangerous thing at the moment. Alabaster didn't seem to care if it meant getting his message to its intended.

Oota couldn't really comment on the first part of his statement without giving it away, she didn't really know what a mountain looked like on the ground let alone up in the air. For some reason she was being careful with this white stallion, she usually didn't care what she said or did but something prevented her from just being honest and telling him.

As he suggested going up himself she wore a worried look "You could get struck again! I never heard of anyone flying with one wing your just being silly, don't hurt yourself any more ok?" Though she couldn't understand what was worth all this effort, he'd mentioned something about messages but really the whole flying thing was not her forte. The fact he seemed to be willing to risk his life a second time didn't sit right with her and she couldn't hold back on the matter "What could be worth risking not only a few feathers but your life?"

Alabaster watched the mare a moment, those pale eyes showing very little of how he was feeling on the inside. His wing was paining, but he was stubborn enough to do anything if it got his mission over with. "I was once told that Lightening only struck something, once. I have already been hit, so I won't get hit again." he wasn't entirely sure about this, but he was still going to do it. "Unless you have a better idea." Alabaster stretched out his wings some, taking a few test beats. He rose a bit off the ground, enough to take his now mud balled ribbons out of the muck. If she didn't have anything better, he was going up, rain, lightening or not. He needed to find his way, some how.

Oota watched him, prepare, struggle and eventually gain a little height with a wing beat, blimey did that look painful. The wing still had remnants of charring and to her it still looked like smoke was appearing randomly throughout and as she looked she noticed each feather because she was looking. For once she was taking the time to examine wings, where her's like that? Honest to the Zodiacs themselves she'd never even really looked, her entire life time had been set towards her goal. The fruits of her labour had shown and she had reached it and now her passion was her hobby but there wasn't anything new to learn that was within her learning as a...Lyra... Artcurus? She was both... and though she ignored it she was a Lyra indeed, with her feathered wings and two pairs unlike many others she was told.

Yet this stranger was hurting himself to take to the skies, why? She couldn't understand it and it was niggling at her, why was this bothering her so much? Oota had become known for her isolation, for her out spoken attitude and tendency to blurt out what was on her mind.

There wasn't anything she could think so say or do so as she looked at him her expression went from worry to more quizzical truly perplexed by his determination. "Why?" Oota asked again, but this time to everything about his efforts, why did he have to fly? Why did he want to fly, she was pretty boggled by it all and had a feeling it wasn't going to sit right in her mind if she didn't get an answer,

Alabaster just stared at Oota as she asked him why. Why? was there really that much to explain? Hovering, his wing beats becoming steadier the more he stayed in that spot, watching Oota with those pale blue eyes. "Why you ask? Why does a fish swim? Why does a deer run? Why does the sun rise in the morning and set in the evening?" He asked above the rumbles from over head

"Its who I am. I am a lyra, I was granted wings to shepard messages from place to place. What about you? Why are you the way you are?" Alabaster returned the question with a bit more to it. Raising his head as a crack of thunder resounded through the air. Wings freezing up a moment before resuming, he gained a little more height from the ground. "Plus I have a job to do, one that will take less time if I travel by sky, then by land."

"Because thats what they are good at?" It reminded her of when she met the water horse, that first time, he was the fish swimming and he had set her a question much the same way. This time she hadn't had to think about it much, it was obvious so... oh.

The penny kinda dropped, those that had wings flew, those that had fins swam and she? Well she really was the odd ball, she hadn't stuck to what nature had dictated her and her complete lack of interest in flying was now starting to have a negative effect. For the first time she looked up into the storm and tried to imagine herself in Alabasters hooves up there flying everywhere, determined and with purpose. Oota also thought about why she was the way she was... that was a tough one, it couldn't be put down to her herd, or family aside from the way she looked. Inside what made her, her was the path her life had taken and meeting Deneb.

That felt like so long ago now, she was a mature adult supposedly thought she felt like hiding away and sleeping on this now. Letting her mind work itself out whilst she slumbered to give her a course of action for the morrow. Looking back at the stallion she nodded, his passion for flying was what made him who he was, what dictated his occupation as swimming was almost the same for her. She still didn't really want to see him take back to the skies, it just didn't seem safe but what could she do or say to stop him? What could anyone of done to stop her getting in the water? Nothing, so she raised a wing and flexed it in a sort of wave "Good luck with your job, I hope your message gets delivered with no more getting hurt."
