There isn't much flatland in the Eastern Region, the valleys take up a lot of the region and are hard to navigate if you don't have to right mode of transportation. Sunlight only lasts a few hours a day in some parts.
Even considering that, people still live here do to the safety from beasties. Not many creatures live here besides the flying kind. Many beautiful kinds of flora grow here though. Bridges have been built between canyon parts to make it a bit easier to get around. Try not to fall.
