My name is Calais O'Brien and I am a demigod.
I have seen a lot in my 16 years.
And when I got to school I am in eleventh grade.
My Mortal Parent, John O'Brien , raised me from birth.
Though my other parent, turns out to be Nemesis
What led to my discovery of all this? Well you see...
My father's a judge in Miami. I suppose that's why Mother liked him--he represented balance, the impartial judge... Now, them together might not have been much of a problem...except that my father was married at the time. Needless to say, his wife was not pleased to find me on the front steps. As I grew older, and began to attract monsters, my presence was welcomed even less. Mrs. Shelly O'Brien (she wouldn't let me call her “mother”) pretty much ignored me, refusing to acknowledge my presence. When I was diagnosed with OCD, ADHD, and all those lovely acronyms, things only got worse. I wasn't allowed to be around if guests were there; wasn't allowed to speak to anyone; wasn't allowed to play with my half-sister, Melanie... The worst part was that, while I had no desire to speak with Melanie in the first place, she for some reason couldn't get it into her head, and kept trying to play with me, following me everywhere so cheerfully and loudly. Naturally, whenever her mother found out, I was the one to blame.
I suppose there were occasional good times. When Mrs. O'Brien wasn't there; when my father would sneak me a chocolate bar, or a smile. On my birthday, when he could, he'd take me off somewhere and we'd spend half the day together, away from her glaring eyes. For the most part, though...I did my best to keep away from home.
School was a trial as well--though that’s admittedly true of many demigods. My need to make everything just so made things quite difficult. Teachers often wouldn’t let me rearrange things, and would get annoyed if I did. My classmates got just as annoyed if I tried to fix their belongings or clothes, if not more so. I was considered a wierdo...so I got used to staying alone there too, hiding from my classmates and their disorderliness. I generally hid in either the library (a quiet, organized place. Even if reading hurt my eyes and head, I could look at the illustrations) or the bathrooms or some other quiet spot. My favorite place was the roof, when I could sneak onto it. No disorder could come there. Everything was out of reach. I couldn’t fix anything... It was magnificent.
One day, in art class, our teacher showed us some manga. I fell in love. The art was beautiful; the storylines, when I managed to read them or watched an anime, were deep. They were just...marvelous. I learned how to draw them, and so had another way to escape my life.
When I was eleven, I was hiding on the roof of our house, when Melanie saw me and wanted to join me. I warned her that we’d get in trouble, and that she could fall, but she wouldn’t listen. She found the trellis I’d used to climb up, and began to follow me. I continued to discourage her, but when she continually refused to listen, I let it be. People should be given free choice; if it was her fate to fall, she’d fall. And she did, breaking her arm. My step-mother finally had enough. No matter how much I protested, she refused to listen, throwing a fit. At her demand, my father sent me away to Camp Half-blood, a place my real mother had apparently told him about before leaving me on his doorstep. I've spent the last five years of my life at camp, and they've been the best years of my life. I have a best friend, for the first time in my life: a daughter of Hecate named Hikari!
And that's when I arrived at Camp Half Blood.
Since then, I have been at camp for five years.
Staying all year round
And I have obtained the following beads:
Event: Hunters of Artemis visit

Event: Romans invade camp

Event: party ponies visit

Event: Aphrodite Cabin is pranked by whole camp

Event: Races began again

Event: Forges caught on Fire

I usually am told I act like true neutral, in rpg terms. I am as likely to side with you as against you. Well, that’s not quite true--the determining factors are many. Have you been lucky lately, or good, or bad... I live to keep balance in the world. In a criminal judgement, for example: say you were robbed. All other things being equal, I’d say the thief has to pay you equal value to the object stolen. If you are corrupt and earned the money that way, he’d pay less or even not at all. If you’re a good person down on your luck, he’d pay more. Battle would work the same way: I prefer not to fight at all, but if I must, I will choose the wronged or complacent side, in that order. As Edward Elric would put it, I operate on the theory of Equivalent Exchange, in general. If you act against me, I act against you, in equal measure. If you do something nice for me, I return the favor. If I am in debt, you can count on my paying it back--probably sooner rather than later. I can’t stand imbalance, to the point that if I enter an unbalanced room or see something asymmetrical, I will be unable to rest (near or in sight of it) until I’ve fixed it. It sometimes even enters my personality. Every so often, I will swing towards one pole or another--becoming wildly excited and cheery or morose and apathetic. Another downside to this is that if I think things have been going too well for me, I have a tendency to sabotage my own efforts in things, consciously or unconsciously. It’s unhealthy, and will doubtless get me into serious trouble one of these days, but there’s not much I can do about it...
I’ve been told that I’m an excellent listener. As a rule, I prefer to listen and watch than to participate in things. Though righting the balance is a full-time job around these careless demigods and their wish-granting parents (all due respect)... When I’m not busy fixing things, I can be found hanging out with Hikari or on my cabin’s roof watching the clouds. Roofs are surprisingly comfortable, as are floors... I’m also usually fiddling with something or another. I have a dry wit, sarcastic and snarky. I’ll admit, many of my laughs come at the expense of others. I enjoy manga--even if reading it is hard, the art is lovely. I’m a fair hand at drawing it, if I do say so myself. I’m passable at most things, a jack-of-all-trades, if you will. Unfortunately, there isn’t much I’m really exceptional at, most of my skills are just average.
I can be quite inventive when planning something I’m excited about, which isn’t good news for people who irritate me. I’m Onto my flaws: I don’t trust easily, and I can be touchy, so that category covers a lot of people. I get pretty clingy when I find people I do like and trust. I’m fussy in my tastes, especially with balancing things. If they aren’t all exactly right, I’ll be upset. When it comes to events, though, I’m fatalistic (by definition), so I’ll generally shrug and move on.
To be honest--and this is my deepest, darkest secret, so don’t tell--there are times when I’d rather be a child of anyone but Nemesis. To be able to wear mini-hats properly, to be able to go into a crowded room and chat calmly, to be able to participate in a contest voluntarily without feeling guilty... I’d even rather be a child of Hypnos (no offense)--at least in dreams I’d be able to experience it! Every time the thought comes into my head, I feel guilty. If I ever try to get past it, and ignore my instincts, I feel like the entire world will come crashing down on me. After all, if I let this one thing slip, what else might it effect? Maybe I’ll start letting larger and larger things slip, until I’m no longer neutral. Maybe someone’s fate will fall out of line. Maybe I’ll ruin the entire balance of the world irrevocably--butterfly’s wing, and all that! I start to panic, and I get pale, and my hands get clammy, and I can’t breathe, and, and... Nothing gets better unless I stop, or fix whatever is wrong. And I always do, because what else can I do? And then I wish I had a different heritage, and start feeling guilty...
But what else can I do?
I really like Order and balance. Climbing and high spots, like roofs. Black, white, or grey clothes--colors are too complicated. Flowers--Demeter is a master of symmetry. Tea. Night-time, crickets. Classical music. Radio shows. Anyone who lets me fix imbalances.
But I hate Messes. Bullies, other obnoxious people. Crowds--too many things to fix. Boredom. Bananas. Being unable to fix things. Warm, humid weather--never go to Florida in the summer. Modern music. The smell of freshly cut grass--it makes me sneeze.
And Please don't bring in ladybugs--gods, I hate them, to the extent that anything polka-dotted will send me screaming. I'm also afraid that my father hates me... (Abandonment in general)
The balance of the world falling apart because of me.
But no matter what one day I want acceptance in my family, a permanent balance, a job as an interior decorator (at least people’s homes could start out balanced) or else something I wouldn’t have to leave my house to do, freedom.
In case I have to fight I have a staff with retractable blades in either end.
I'm really good at Climbing, whistling, compromises, revenge.
But I'm horrible at arts and crafts--way to much of a perfectionist, I can never get anything done; horseback riding; telling the truth about my feelings.
My life at camp is interesting...
I meet a few people, who are my friends Hikari Star, daughter of Hecate.
and a few people who are my enemies n/a.
Though I kind of like n/a
