... is it nearly impossible to find nice people on the internet?

I mean, I come here to ask this question because you guys are not a bunch of assholes and will probably understand it.

I can't decide which is worse, Gaia or Tumblr - either way, everyone's offended about everything and stealing each other's art. Facebook will make you hate people you've known forever because you realize they're ignorant, self obsessed and over dramatic. Reddit is the new 4chan. 'Nuff said.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE

WHY CAN'T EVERYONE JUST BE NICE TO EACH OTHER

I think that the internet has led people to feel disconnected to what they're saying and doing. As if it's not 100% real and there isn't real human being on the other end, being effected.

Which leaves them free to be total buttheads and share their opinion on everything under the sun.

This and the fact that some people feel they get to be who every they want to be and that there are no consequents for their actions.

Okay, excellent points. Especially that people can begin to feel disconnected - I hadn't thought of that. It's a really good explanation (though not a justification! D:<). We're defined by our avatars or display photos. And anonymity means even the cowardly can get in on the internet bullying action!

I guess I just don't understand how a person can actively be so mean to someone else. It's probably a satisfaction thing ("You offended me somehow by existing and it makes me feel better to make you feel bad"), but it's so foreign to me. If I so much as get snippy with someone my palms start to sweat and I feel immediately guilty.
