Why does EA make these decisions? You think on how large EA is that they would be smarter about this.

people with an MBA have no idea what people want and what actually works, they just know about the numbers. they don't care about satisfying customers, as long as money rolls in it's worth it for them.
just look at what happened to apple after they fired Steve Jobs and let an MBA person take his place, they almost ruined the whole company! (not that apple is making good stuff, but they know how to sell it.)
also they have no idea about the actual product itself. they are too sheltered away from the actual development process and probably never even played a game by themselves
