I should have made this thread a long time ago. Let's make sure we'll all on the same page as to who is doing which art.
We had talked about Minja doing the art for our room since she did an awesome job with the Sloth room during the 9th ball, and the Spy room during the 10th ball. Is anyone opposed to using her, or does anyone have any artist they'd like to recommend instead?

I'll make a journal-wide entry on dA to see if any artists that are watching me would be interested. Most of them might/would be willing to do it for free...^3^ Though I'm gonna need more details so I don't confuse anyone...>w>

We got Minja! xd She has agreed to do the character and decorative art for our room. Her work is phenomenal, and she works at a speedy pace! Now, we just have to figure out who is doing our banners, and then all we will have left is finding people to do each of our sig art. biggrin
Alright, so now on to the theme of banner designs. I was thinking maybe something that looks like a pretty, ornate, wooden sign like what you would see in front of a nursing home, with the names written in a pretty, cursive script. Does anyone else have any ideas?

You should totally go curio style on the banners...old fashioned curios like you see on old people and in books....with an ornate wire frame around the edge and then it will look like carved ivory in the middle maybe....after all we are old literature characters not just old people.

Could you post an example? I'm trying to get a mental image of what you mean, but the words, "old fashioned" have me very interested! biggrin

OR an old fashioned photograph look would be cool... I like this one because it has the ornate frame but it could be both masculine or feminine...just replace the rose with a face or words or a name. http://img1.etsystatic.com/000/0/6849292/il_fullxfull.328338397.jpg http://www.letstradetoday.com/wp-content/uploads/419330-500x375.jpg http://img0.etsystatic.com/009/0/5198687/il_170x135.415759424_rt4c.jpg http://img0081.popscreencdn.com/103679533_vintage-cameo-locket-necklace---pink-cameo-austrian-.jpg I love the color combinations on these two http://dnok91peocsw3.cloudfront.net/inspiration/275909-612x612-1.png http://dnok91peocsw3.cloudfront.net/inspiration/275909-612x612-1.png

LilChibiusa Oh! I know those! Great idea! What should the shape be of? Either horizontal oval or rectangle with the edges rounded. Personally I like the bronze looking metal work over the silver around the edge but I am willing to go with anything. smile

Here are the descriptions I sent to Minja. Let me know if I need to edit anything. heart
Ms. Havisham (LilChibiusa) - She was left at the alter when she young, and she never quite got over it. She still wears her wedding dress, and the cake and flowers are still there, albiet all gross and moldy now. She also stopped all of the clocks in her house to when her wedding was. She is wealthy, and spiteful, and tries to make all men suffer because of what her ex-fiance did to her. She will manipulate men and puppet other people to do her bidding in order to bring about heartache. In the ball, she will be unhappy, vengeful, and sardonic. Whenever Don Quixote tries to lift her up as his lady, she will appear spiteful of his attempts, but ultimately accept him in the end.
Don Quixote (iNk_mAy) - He read a few too many novels about medeival knights in his lifetime, and he fancies himself to be one of them. His family thinks he is out of his mind, and he realizes that to some extent, but still wants to do as much good as possible. Sometimes he gets a bit delusional or carried away like with the windmill, but more often than that, he tries to be of assistance to everyone, regardless of age, race, class, or creed, often helping people with whom no one else is willing to associate. He always believes in the good in all people, and has this strange idea that there has to be a lady to whom he attributes all of his good deeds, though a romantic relationship is never expected. In the ball, he will try to make Ms. Havisham his lady.
Sir John Falstaff (GalateasFire) - To be honest, this is the only story I have not read, so here is what G-Fire gave me: "He is an overweight, cowardly, sly, drunken, humorous old fella that is friends with Henry V and chases skirts." I am planning to read his stories, and I'll give you more details later if you need more to work with.
Dr. Van Helsing (Malomy) - He is the the ultimate Mr. Know-it-all. You would think that he would have studying vampires at his university position, but that is not the case at all. He was an expert in obscure diseases, as he was a doctor. He was also a lawyer and philospher with quite literally about 20 degrees. Mr. Smarty Pants does not even begin to cover it. We are going to play up this Mr. Smarty Pants, Know-It-All aspect of his personality in the ball. As to his personal life, his son died, and his wife is crazy. He is a devout Catholic, and a rather serious man with a huge heart for the suffering of others. Here is a physical description: "a man of medium weight, strongly built, with his shoulders set back over a broad, deep chest and a neck well balanced on the trunk as the head is on the neck. The poise of the head strikes me at once as indicative of thought and power. The head is noble, well-sized, broad, and large behind the ears. The face, clean-shaven, shows a hard, square chin, a large resolute, mobile mouth, a good-sized nose, rather straight, but with quick, sensitive nostrils, that seem to broaden as the big bushy brows come down and the mouth tightens. The forehead is broad and fine, rising at first almost straight and then sloping back above two bumps or ridges wide apart, such a forehead that the reddish hair cannot possibly tumble over it, but falls naturally back and to the sides. Big, dark blue eyes are set widely apart, and are quick and tender or stern with the man's moods."
Rip Van Winkle (Misty L Lake) - He was a poor farmer in colonial America with a wife who was never happy with him. Despite this, he was always cheerful and optimistic, though extremely lazy. One day, he happened to start drinking with some elves in the forest, and he fell asleep for many years. When he awoke, he learned that many of the people he had known before were dead, and that many of the children has risen up in their place. He had slept through the entire American Revolution, and gets in a little trouble for still hailing King George (pre-war ruler). His children recognize him and take him in, and he is generally a good sport about everything. He will be portrayed as being very lazy, yet optimistic, and a slight narcoleptic in the ball.
Wife of Ball a.k.a Alison (Da-ku-chan) - She is the youngest member of our room (being about in her 50s, which was still old for the time), and extremely hearty and lusty. She is not overly slender, but not huge either, just fleshy as you would say. She is an early feminist, and has little regard for her husband. In short, she is the town floozy, and will try to hop in to bed with any man in town. You can easily see how this will relate to our room.
Granny (Gwendolyn Barrett) - She is the Granny of Little Red Riding Hood. She is sweet, kindly, and witty, with an enormous love for baking. She will be ready with a wise remark, and has little tolerance for low morals and foolishness. She is a fun and funny character, and probably the most rational person in the room. She acts as the wisdom of the room when everyone else is running around crazy. She also likes to dote on people and pretend like she is their grandmother.
