((This thread's just for sharing Daisy's interactions with Rooie, which I want to happen before he grows to flesh out their relationship.))

It was only minutes after Pook brought Rooie him that Daisy realized she was going to be saddled with the responsibility of this kid. Her adoptive mother's clumsy ways were just not agreeable with a baby of Rooie's sort. Demanding and remarkably sensitive for a baby...it was just not a good match. Daisy liked her independence. She'd always lived life unhindered, and she wasn't a mom. She didn't adopt this kid. He's not her responsibility. But seeing her frantic mother desperately trying to care for such a small baby and failing miserably was too much for Daisy to bear.

"How had she been able to do all this with me, when I was this small?" Daisy wondered. After a few frustrated moments of hoping the screaming baby would settle down with Pook, Daisy offered to give it a shot.

She picked up Rooie as if he were a football and quickly made off to her room. The baby shrieked and screamed all along the way, but Daisy paid him no mind. Once safely in her room, Daisy gave the squealing creature a good look for the first time.

"He is kinda cute," she thought. His pale skin was flushed and his dark green eyes sparkled with gross little baby tears. But Daisy had certainly seen much grosser things, and found Rooie to comparatively be quite adorable. He also smelled kind of bad. But again, Daisy had smelled much worse things in her time, so she barely noticed it.

His little baby gaze met hers and for a moment, Daisy thought maybe he understood that she was trying to help. Then he started to shriek even louder. What did he want? She picked him up by his tiny baby arms.

"Why are you crying? What's wrong with you?" she tried asking, but the only reply she got was horrible ear-shattering baby fairy screams.

She tried repositioning the fairy, like she'd seen mothers do on television. Rocking him gently in her arms, he quickly quieted. She sighed in relief.

"This isn't so hard!" she thought, "Pook is just an idiot." Now that the crying was done, she tossed him onto one of the miniature hay bales that decorated her room, figuring the worst was over and that he was all screamed-out. But as soon as the baby rolled over on the scratchy bale, the screaming and squirming escalated to a whole new level.

"Ok, that didn't work," Daisy thought. He smelled a little bad, what do people do for that? Baths? She left Rooie unattended on the bales while she got a bath together for him. She flew up to this sink in the bathroom and plugged the drain. Then, she filled it with a little lukewarm water and returned for her baby brother. She was more of a shower-type girl and wasn't really sure how this bath thing was supposed to work for Rooie, so she just stripped him down and plopped him in the water. He seemed even angrier than before and continued to cry. But sometimes Jeze didn't like baths either, when she was being grumpy, so Daisy figured she'd go ahead with the bath idea anyway and follow it through. She lathered Rooie up and dunked him in the water to rinse him off. He was getting increasingly more agitated.

The baby now smelled a lot better (like Pook's awesome ribbon candy handsoap that she'd used as shampoo) and was definitely much cleaner. She pulled her brother out of the bath and dried him off with a few sheets of soft toilet paper. Some little bits of the paper stuck to the baby, but he was dry so she thought what the heck. She put his green onesie back on and he seemed happier for once.

Daisy took Rooie back to her room and opened up one of her miniature wooden craft trunks. She'd been using it as a makeshift tack trunk in her tiny little barn, but she figured it'd make a fine crib for the new baby. She stuffed it full of kleenex and laid the baby on top. Tired from all the crying and satisfied with being clean, Rooie slipped off into a peaceful slumber. Daisy slid several hay bales over and lay down on them for a nap.

Just as Daisy relaxed to enjoy a quiet nap, Rooie was awake again and screaming with a vengeance!

"WHAT NOW?" She asked the baby. He didn't reply. It was like he was being a jerk just to spite her. Here she was trying to do all these nice things, and he repays the favor with furious horrible baby screams.

What to try next? Daisy figured the little guy hadn't eaten in a while. She picked him up and headed for the kitchen.

"What do babies eat?" she thought. All the foods that she liked didn't seem feasible for baby fairies to consume. She figured she'd try oatmeal. It seemed like a nice neutral mushy food for his little toothless baby mouth to mush down. So she grabbed a few instant oat flakes and mixed them with some water, presenting it to the baby on a bottle cap. Rooie looked at the meal, but didn't know what to make of it. Daisy and Rooie stared at each other for a few moments. Daisy recognized the awkward silence, but was happy for Rooie to just be quiet for a minute, so she decided not to act.

Eventually he started bawling again.

In a moment of frustration, Daisy picked up the baby and tried to dunk his face near the oatmeal, hoping that maybe he'd recognize it as food then. The little baby resisted with everything he had and did not make contact with the mushy oatmeal.

"Babies are dumb," she thought.

So she grabbed a wad of the oatmeal mixture in her hands and tried to mush it into the baby's mouth. Rooie squirmed and fought his big sister, but in the end she succeeded in smearing a small amount into his mouth. The rest ended up all over her shirt and hair.

As Rooie swirled the oatmeal around his mouth, Daisy's confidence in her small victory grew. But then he spat up all over himself and resumed crying.

What to try next. Milk? Babies are supposed to like that. Daisy grabbed a small cup, actually one of the lids from an empty tube of beads she swiped from Pook. She walked over to the fridge and threw her weight against the door's seal, popping it open. She climbed up to the top shelf and popped open the 1/2 gallon of milk, dipping the cup in the fill it. She wasn't strong or large enough to close the door, she she just left it open, figuring that Pook would eventually deal with the problem.

Daisy brought the cup over to the baby, but he seemed completely disinterested. She figured she wasn't up for a fight this time and just assumed that he didn't want milk.

"He's a plant fairy or something, right?" Daisy pondered, "Maybe he wants something leafy?" This logic made almost no sense, but she figured it was worth a shot. You try making sense with a screaming baby all up on your case. She hopped back to the fridge and tore off a piece of lettuce. She offered it to her brother, who turned his nose up once again.

She was about to give up when Pook wandered into the kitchen to close the fridge.

"WHAT KIND OF FAIRY IS ROOIE?" Daisy asked her adoptive mom frantically.

"Tea? He'll grow up to guard tea plants."

"I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO FEED HIM, HE WON'T EAT. TRY SOME TEA STUFF I GUESS."

Pook didn't really know what Daisy was so upset about, but figured it was worth a shot to follow through. She grabbed her bag of fancy teas and tea supplies and pulled a few things out of the bag to whip up a little sampler for the little baby fairy. On a small plate she placed a few bite-sized dried fruit pieces that came from a loose leaf herbal tea blend, a drop of honey, and a crystal of German rock can tea sugar.

Daisy placed Rooie on the plate.

Rooie crawled up to the fruit pieces, gummed one lazily and drooled fruit-tinged ooze all over. Then he crawled right through the sticky honey, making a complete mess. He stopped next to the sugar crystal and gummed it, looking pleased.

"I think giving him sugar is probably a bad idea."

"AS LONG AS HE'S EATING AND QUIET I DON'T EVEN CARE."

Rooie giggled as he fiddled with the tasty crystal. He seemed amused at the effort Daisy was putting forth to please him.

Daisy smiled, relieved and happy to see her demanding little brother finally enjoying a snack, even if it was sugar.

After the frustrating adventure in snacking, Daisy took Rooie for another bath. He didn't seem to mind this one as much.

Although he hadn't been home long, Daisy felt like Rooie had been around for days. The piercing shrieks of a young fairy sure make you tired. After his second bath, she laid Rooie back in his makeshift kleenex trunk-crib, hoping for a mutual nap. Before long her lids grew heavy and the gentle embrace of sleep seemed close.

"UUUUWWWWaaaaAAAAAAaaaaaAAAAAAuuuuUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHH!" Rooie cried. He was freakin' inconsolable.

Daisy skittered over to him to see what was wrong. Nothing. As soon as she approached, the infant gave a toothless smile, yawned, and curled up to nap himself. Daisy was too exhausted to be mad and curled up next to the crib to take advantage of her brother's napping.

Thirty minutes later, Daisy once again awoke to the sound of her brother crying. This time, she ran to grab another sugar crystal to see if that would please him.

He grabbed the treat and shoved it into his mouth. His sugary drool made his onesie crispy and crunchy, but he was happy and quiet. Rooie let out a small burp once the crystal was dissolved completely. He looked smug and satisfied, more than an infant should. It was as if he knew Daisy was in the palm of his grubby little baby-hand. He stared at his sister.

Daisy stared at Rooie, wondering what the kid wanted.

Rooie stared at his sister.

Daisy gazed back, confused.

Rooie let out a small pathetic cough, and his eyes began to water.

"NO. Don't cry. What's wrong?" Daisy pleaded.

Rooie began to softly cry.

Panicking, Daisy decided that maybe he wanted to play. She grabbed a small toy pony and made it dance through the air.

Rooie's tears stopped and he stared at the pony in awe.

Daisy continued to wave the pony around wildly for several minutes, hoping to please the baby. It seemed to be working but her arms were tiring fast. She set the pony down for a quick break.

Rooie resumed crying loudly.

Defeated, Daisy picked the pony back up and made it dance some more for the child's enjoyment. Her arms felt tired and dead, but it was better that than a screaming baby.

Rooie was pleased.

Rooie made grabby hands at his big sister.

Daisy thought it was cute that her adorable little brother wanted to be cuddly, so she picked him up to rock him gently.

Rooie grinned and closed his eyes.

Daisy smiled.

Rooie peed all over himself and his sister, while still smiling. He seemed oddly proud.

Daisy was realizing that babies were way awful.
"No wonder Mama fairies don't raise these jerks," Daisy noted, realizing that all this nonsense about Sparklettes and responsibility was probably total nonsense, "How would they get anything done--how could they guard their species--with babies constantly bogging them down?"

Daisy was wise beyond her years.

Time has passed now, and with each day Daisy increased in her efficiency at taking care of her tiny brother.

She would quiet every coo by placing a sugar crystal into the tiny fairy's grasp before he had the chance to erupt into a fit of tears. She even got a little bag to tie around her waist that she kept filled with sugar, so that they'd be right at hand when needed.

Although days had passed, Rooie showed little interest in many foods. His favorite was Pook's fancy crystallized tea sugar, but he'd entertain the notions of drinking sweet iced tea or nibbling at cookies or cheese. The little tyke had a refined palette.

Rooie seemed to enjoy his baths. He now rarely screams at bath time. He seems to occasionally get himself dirty on purpose, knowing that Daisy will draw another bath in no time. He loves to make messes just for this reason. He also loves to be the center of attention.

He runs on very little sleep. Daisy survives on even less. Most of her time was spent keeping her charge entertained. Baby Rooie never sleeps through the night.

Daisy has taken over as his caretaker with an amazing level of responsibility for a fairy of her age. She doesn't even resent the baby. In fact, she seems to enjoy doting on him. It makes her happy when her little brother shows signs of approval. Rooie is becoming quite spoiled.
